Under short notice I needed to find lodging in the Asheville area for an entire week while my daughter was in the area training for a job with a non-profit organization.  I looked into hotels/motels in the area, but the ones I could afford did not have positive reviews.  While searching Airbnb for lodging in the Asheville area, I stumbled upon Franny's Farm.  I was intrigued about sleeping in my own tent while have the convienence of a full kitchen, nice showers, and a clean bathroom.   My daughter and I arrived on a Saturday evening.  We were greated our hosts, Francis and Jeff.  Francis and Jeff are very friendly and great hosts.  Francis gave us a tour of the barn. The barn had fast wifi, tables, chairs and couches. It's called a barn, but it is more of an event facility. I don't believe that animals are stored in the barn. Decorations in the barn indicated it is used for weddings or other events. In addition to being a great place to hold a wedding, it would also be a nice safe place to be if the weather was bad.  The second floor of the barn is also available for rent as lodging. From talking to guest who were staying in the barn, it sounded very nice and comfortable.  The first evening of our stay, and other evenings, most of the guests staying at the farm gathered around the community fire.  It was fun to meet other guests from around the country.  There was plenty of wood provided by the hosts.   The community building is run by solar power and propane. The kitchen has everything one would need to cook meals.  I brought a cooler, but ended up storing food and beverages in the kitchen's full size refrigerator.  On a couple occasions, I had the pleasure to share meals with other guests. There is a great sense of community amongs the guests at the farm.  We bought 10 chicken eggs and two turkey eggs from the hosts and cooked them for breakfast thoughout the week.  Cooking and eating turkey eggs was an experience.  They taste like chicken eggs but have a slightly different texture.   The showers and bathrooms are clean and pleasant to use.  The solar power is stored in batteries to be used at night.  The building was never without electricity.  The eco-cabins looked cozy and a great alternative to pitching a tent.  One cabin is very close to the community building and fire pit.  The other cabin is about 50 feet away from the building There is plenty of water in the building for the kitchen, showers and bathrooms.  The water seemed to have a high iron content.  If you don't care for the taste of water with iron, be sure to bring a couple gallons of bottled water.  There are lots of great sounds at night from various animals in the area.  In the evening I could hear the tree frogs calling to one another.  Then later at night and early morning I could hear coyotes and foxes. In the morning, many different birds would sing, along with the crow of roosters and cries of the Abigail the donkey. The community building, cabins and tent sites are at the top of the hill behind the barn.  The hill is intimidatingly steep, but my car, and the cars driven by other guests, had no problems driving to the top.  The view from the top of the hill is beautiful.  It was very nice to wake up each morning and look out over the valley.   Asheville is a unique city to visit.  Staying a Franny's Farm is also pleasantly unique.  I felt more like a member of a community than a guest.  More importantly, I felt that Franny and Jeff really cared about my stay on their farm and treated me more as a friend than a guest. I'm looking forward to my next stay at Franny's Farm when I will bring my wife and other children. read more

Our family of four (from NY and SC) as well as our dog spent Christmas week on Franny's Farm! I cannot say enough positive about how special this experience was. We could not have been made to feel more at home! This is an unforgettable place that we will return to and highly recommend to others. It's not just a great Airbnb but also a wonderful destination for a day trip or a special event. Our communication with Jeff & Franny was seamless from booking to arrival, throughout our stay, and upon checkout. The accommodations were perfect and the Farmhouse has the coolest layout, plenty of space and a terrific kitchen! We utilized the pellet stove for cozy evenings while we played scrabble. We took advantage of the deck for stargazing and views of the surroundings. We hiked the property, enjoyed exploring and had some fun on the adult size slides! We quickly made friends with Dumplin the Red Waddle pig, Abigail the donkey, the four adorable goats, sheep and lambs (including three sets of twins). There was also irresistible Legacy (the single bottle fed lamb), numerous gobbling turkeys, many clucking chickens, and dogs Blue and Cody too. These are "hands on" farm animals, which is a bonus if fences have limited your farm experiences. You get to touch, cuddle, hug, handle and interact with these animals as much or as little as you like. It really is a magical place! During our stay we utilized the kitchen and outdoor BBQ frequently. In addition to the food supply we brought, we took full advantage of the fresh food available from the Farm. We enjoyed a delicious Heritage turkey (Christmas dinner), spinach salad, sweet potatoes, assorted peppers, a chicken (slow cooked in the crock pot), and an abundance of fresh eggs. This only added to how authentic our holiday experience was staying on the Farm. This place is extraordinary as far as we're concerned and we feel lucky for having found the listing on Airbnb. These people are the "real deal" and their love and passion for the Farm and all it offers is clear. They are genuine, kind, welcoming and more than willing to impart their wisdom. They generously shared knowledge about farm life and all things AVL. We felt grateful to have met them, their family, their staff and their amazing assortment of animals! read more

This place is a traveler's paradise. My boyfriend and I just spent a magnificent 2 nights at Franny's Farm. First and foremost I did not expect it to be as scenic of a location as it was, but boy was I glad to be wrong. The whole property is located along the length of a mountain's edge. The main house and farm animals were located near the bottom and the campsite, cabins, and community center were perched perfectly atop of the mountain overlooking this fantastic piece of property. After arriving late (like 11:30pm late) we didn't get the opportunity to check-in or receive further instructions on how to get to our designed campsite, BUT once we actually arrived on-site there were solar lights and signs posted with clear instructions on how to proceed to our campsite. I have never been one for serious primitive camping so I was incredibly relieved to see how state-of-the-art and clean their community center was (clean bathrooms and showers, a full service kitchen and dining area). The entire facility looked brand new and everything was solar powered!! The location was a short drive to downtown Asheville, which was the whole reason we were visiting, but after staying on Franny's Farm I want to go back and fully experience what the farm had to offer (late summer "Barnaroo" music fest, meet some of the animals, enjoy their full-farm 4-wheeler tours, and even pick blackberries along the mountain side). There was always a cheerful neighbor near-by but for the most part everyone kept to themselves. If you needed any basic groceries, the main barn on the farm had a small connivence store located inside that sold all of their organic products! I would seriously recommend any traveler looking to come to this area to stop by Franny's Farm and meet this fantastic family and be experience for yourself this new innovative culture of organic farming. 10/10 stars. We will definitely go back there again. read more

Our family stayed in the barn house for four nights in July 2017. It was a great experience, not just another place to stay. The barn's loft apartment where we stayed had lots of room -- three bedrooms, two baths, plus a large dining area and spacious sitting area, all overlooking the pastures. The kitchen was a nice surprise, with modern appliances including a Viking range and oven. The bed in the master bedroom was very comfortable -- and I'm fairly particular about mattresses, so that's saying something. The other two beds were fine for the kids, but might not be comfortable for larger adults for multiple nights, as they are mattresses across wire frames (no box springs). Franny and Jeff are excellent hosts, very warm and pleasant. They made us feel right at home, allowing us and our kids to visit with their animals (pigs, sheep, goats, donkey, chickens) as much as we wanted. They also gave us fresh eggs for our breakfast. They clearly love farm life, and their happiness gives the farm a very positive vibe. Most of the time, things are pretty quiet, other than the sounds of the work taking place on the farm. However, the barn is the center of activity at the farm, which means that people who are staying in other areas of the farm sometimes come down into the common area just outside the barn -- or into the barn itself, which is right downstairs from where we were staying -- to have a cookout, sit around a bonfire, play music, toss horseshoes, etc. Everyone we met was friendly and welcoming to us, inviting us to join in whatever they were doing. We truly felt like part of the farm family. Overall, this was a rare opportunity for us to get a taste of life on a farm (without all the work). Thanks, Franny and Jeff! read more

Franny's Farm is more magical than I ever imagined. My daughters and I came up from Beaufort, SC to visit with friends for a birthday weekend. From the moment our boots hit the property, we were greeted by not only the adorable and gregarious owner, Frances Tacy and her hard-working farm hand, Carissa, but also the sweet and vocal animals. Frances gave us a valuable and thorough tour of the property, giving us the feeling that it was truly ours for the weekend. The farm house and outdoor amenities had everything we needed, from trash bags to shampoo to spices to firewood. In addition to all the "stuff," the farm had soul. The visit brought us back to what's important...understanding the circle of life. The private tour and hike up to the primitive area made my youngest daughter's eyes and heart smile. The engagement with Dumpling, the pig, and Abigail, the donkey, as well as the lambs and the chickens and sheep brought my teenager out of the house and off her phone. There was plenty to do for the kids so we could have our Big Chill weekend. Of course the company made it magical, but I definitely think it was the place. Franny's Farm is our new bowl of Heaven. read more

It is as good as it gets!! I love this place, it feel like home every time I'm there. I've decided that this will be my home away from home. They view is amazing from the cabins, the farm is so beautiful, fresh vegetables to eat, cute animals to feed and pet. They have everything you could want. My favorite part was leaving all my electronics behind, there is no better way to get rid of stress than getting back to nature. There are trails all over the mountain that are marked with guides so you don't lose your way (thank you Franny). In the summer there are fresh blueberries and blackberries to pick as you are roaming the farm, bikes to ride, great people to talk to and wonderful fire pits for everyone to gather around at the end of the day. I can not express how much i enjoyed my time there and can't wait to make my next trip up. Franny and Jeff are the most gracious host and most down to earth people i have met in a long time. They really make you feel like family. Thank you for creating such a beautiful and loving place for people to come and get back to nature. read more

My boyfriend and I made the incredible decision of staying at Franny's Farm for 4 nights while we scouted Asheville as a place to relocate. We were expecting a cute cabin and a few friendly faces to come home to after a day of exploring. We got so much more. Franny, Jeff and all of her staff are some of the most welcoming and kind human beings we've come into contact with. We didn't just feel like guests; we felt like family. At the farm you have the freedom to explore as you please and be as social as you like. By the end of our stay, we opted to hang out at the farm with all the new friends we'd made, rather than spend more time in town. We giggled while we fed their goats and pigs leftover cupcakes and we felt peaceful waking up to the sounds of chickens cooing in the mountains. The farm itself is only a short 20 minute ride to downtown Asheville, and a beautiful drive at that. It was the perfect place to come back to after a long and busy day. I cannot recommend this farm any more! Whether you come for a few hours or a few nights, prepare to fall in love. read more

We just returned home from and amazing 4 days/nights over Thanksgiving. Fran and Jeff's have such a wonderful and comfortable place to get away. The farm is beautiful, quaint, and lively and it's a short drive 15 minute into Asheville for arguably some of the best food and brew in south. The barnhouse is has a warm rustic chic vibe- absolutely nothing lacking. The kitchen is well stocked with utensils, pot and pans, coffee maker, all major upper end appliances, linens were nice and new, the beds very comfortable, everything was clean and well tended. They even have a speaker available to play music on, just bring your own aux cord. When we weren't exploring Asheville, we enjoyed chilling at the barnhouse and petting the goats and mule. We were sad to leave but left fully recharged. Both Fran and Jeff are great people and fun to chat with. We look forward to the time when we can return. Fanny's farm is one of my favorites places to have visited with AirBnb. My girlfriend and I first booked one night in Cabin #1. It is close to parking and the communal area but has incredibly good privacy. We even saw meteor shower that night sitting by the fire ring. The experience was so fun we decided to extend our stay and try the campsite, which was just as pleasant. Besides the overall fantastic view of the landscape and convenience (and cleanliness) of the accommodation, the best part is watching and playing with the animals. You have to check it out! I'm also grateful that Jeff mailed back a couple small things I accidentally left behind. Frances gave up help recommendations on local hikes and must sees. They are the best! read more

By far, these are the best used car sales staff. From the constant relabeling of their services to draw people to a fake farm built next to the worst trailer park in Buncombe county, to fraudulent organic poultry that has its feed constantly changing back and forth from GMO to non-GMO feed based on when it fits their lavish lifestyle. If you're looking to be ripped off on the price of anything, $6 a dozen for somewhat organic eggs, turkeys finished with GMO corn, or a wedding venue that's really not.... Then Franny's Farm is the place to go. They should really just build more cabins and stop competing with the gossip they hear at the gym. read more

Took a risk staying at alternative type of lodging.... and we LOVED it! Within minutes of being there my wife said that she'd be looking for a place like this everywhere that we wander off to... The staff are all so approachable, warm, and real... Genuinely felt like I was on (my) family farm visiting... The lodge was perfect: fantastic layout, good privacy, all amenities, and fascinating to ponder how it was built.... Only 20 minutes to Asheville, too.... The best thing about the place is the scenery and the sweet animals.... Appreciate the kindness; we will be back.... read more

While on a road trip with my boyfriend we found ourselves needing accommodations on very short notice. We messaged the farm on Airbnb and got a response within an hour. Upon arriving to the farm we were greeted by Frances and Melissa who gave us the keys to our cabin and some info about the farm and we went on our way. The farm is beautiful first of all, and the view from the cabin/kitchen/bathroom area was breathtaking. The entire experience was a very pleasant surprise and I would definitely recommend Franny's farm to anyone! read more

Franny's Farm is one of the best places I've ever been! Franny and the family opened their arms and doors wide when I arrived. I love the beautiful scenery, the big bonfires, the lovely gardens, and all the learning that can take place on this farm. It is a great place for the family, a group of friends, or just a trip to explore by yourself. This is one of my favorite places and you will not be disappointed if you stop by! P.S. I had the pleasure of staying in one of the Eco cabins on Franny's Farm. Franny, Jeff and Corissa are all incredibly warm & accommodating hosts and sincerely concerned about your comfort. The cabin was tasteful, clean, cozy and comfortable. The community kitchen and restrooms were very clean and fairly spacious. I went to a wedding at Franny's Farm in the fall and it was beautiful. There's this peaceful feeling that comes over you when you're there, and I love the view of the mountains and being around all the farm animals. The staff is super friendly and Franny and Jeff always go above and beyond to make sure everyone is happy and things are running smoothly. Franny's farm is just the best. It's always a great visit, from small get-togethers to big music festivals. Franny's is a great place to bnb or camp or have an event. We have enjoyed staying at the Roost, a 2 bedroom apt above the Farmhouse Jeff is so kind and knowledgable. We pet the goats and saw the other animals. It's a working farm with heritage chickens and sheep. Franny's is gorgeous and peaceful. But its just 20 minutes from Asheville. We are bringing home honey and goodies but we will be back! read more
