After an easy mid-morning hike around Mount Eden or Maungawhau and drive around its vibrant and historic neighborhoods, our NZ local friends (Geoffrey and Margaret) suggested grabbing coffee and snacks at Frasers. Our friends have enjoyed the atmosphere, food, and service at Frasers many times before with their other friends during weekends so they were familiar with the neighborhood. The streets were narrow, so street parking was limited; we opted to park in one of the nearby paid parking lots. This charming neighborhood evolved from its 19th-century European colonial farming and flour mills to today's commercial center on Mt Eden Road. The narrow streets of this area showed its transition from a horse-drawn bus route for business people and residents to the introduction of the electric tramway. Also, the buildings that had been built during the late 19th century now have new businesses in them, which maintain the historical vintage appearance. Walking into Frasers, we were comforted by its retro-modern coffeehouse interior and a host immediately greeted us to seat our group. The host provided us with menus and also encouraged us to take a peek at their freshly made in-house pastries. It was good to see such a varied assortment of savory and sweet products, which we all agreed would complement hot coffee beverages. Our server/host was friendly and quite expressive while describing the menu items. We placed our food and beverage orders with him, and within a few minutes, he brought us perfectly brewed coffee beverages, two at a time, from the barista. Meanwhile, because we had requested that some of our pastries be heated, he delivered them after serving the coffee. The coffee beverages were served at a perfect temperature and complemented our snack selections. We were impressed by the friendly and efficient service, the flavors and textures of the pastries we tried, and the value. However, the noise level in this coffee house seemed a bit loud, especially with the music playing, and there were times during our coffee break when our friends or we couldn't hear the entire conversation at the table without raising our voices. We have been there twice and both times we were ignored!! The cafe was not busy. Only 3 tables were being used and it looked like a full+ quota of staff were on duty but they were busy talking about their night out with each other. Another couple walked in and was served straight away!!!! Very disappointed and very saddened . Cafe looked nice but that's all I have to say about it. read more

Frasers is the only coffee house I go to in Mt Eden, due to serving Allpress coffee the way I like it and great cookies. I have been a regular here on/off for 7 years, depending on where I am residing and working. They are open long hours, they do the classic 'Eggs Benedict' to scrummy cheesecake, to grilled fish and soups. Sometimes the wait time is off the scale, really busy day and night, so that speaks for itself! I mustn't forget, they also do great (current) magazines such as British Vogue, Tatler, GQ, Harpers Bazaar and a few others. Worth a visit! read more

Frasers is the BEST! It's been around forever and hasn't changed over the years - open from early until late with cake all day. Firm favourites like their brownie or banoffee pie never leave the menu and there's a rotating specials board of other delicious items. They also do some amazing savoury stuff but who needs savoury when there's cake? They also do takeaway so if you can't pull yourself away from the TV for too long you don't have to miss out! I recommend pretty much all the sweet treats in the cabinet, but the banoffee and the citron tart are solid choices every time. read more

This place gets very busy for dessert after dinner. You might need to wait a bit for a seat! Whilst waiting u can check out the bookstore next door which is open till 9pm! The dessert from the cabinet are usually those that I will order, like the usual New York Cheesecakes, the Lemon Meringue Pie etc. But tonight I went for their dessert from the blackboard and that was amazing too! I really loved the chocolate mousse with raspberry coulis... belgian dark and milk chocolate. Yumm~~ and its surprisingly 'lite' for a chocolate based dessert. After working in Mt Eden for over a year, I am ashamed to admit that I had never been to Frasers. Now that I have visited I wish I had done it sooner, that way I could have enjoyed the goodness that is Frasers' goodies. I had always heard friends talking about Frasers but I thought talk is cheap and the place is probably overrated but boy was I wrong! I went there with two of my friends to catch up and since it was a causal coffee date we did not have any food but instead ordered a drink and muffins. I had an iced chocolate and a date scone. When I took my first sip of the iced chocolate it felt like my taste buds had entered another realm, this iced chocolate was iced to perfection. It was mixed to perfection, meaning that my tongue did not come into contact with any unwanted ice bits. The sweetness was just right, it wasn't too sweet neither was it bland. It was everything an iced chocolate should be, also they weren't stingy with the ice cream and I found myself enjoying some ice cream after I had gulped my drink down. Frasers is a well-known institution in Mt Eden, with a reputation for serving up delicious desserts, pastries and excellent All Press coffee. It's been a good 8 years since i've been here for a meal, so was looking forward to seeing what they had on offer. Unfortunately, this time, my experience was overwhelmingly underwhelming. The bread with my eggs Benny was not toasted enough, the creamy mushrooms were lacking pizzazz and our flat whites had too much foam. The ambience of the café was just a bit stressed, loud, cramped and tired (the walls need a decent paint). Credit to the desserts though, the citron tart was smooth and sharp. I'm hoping that my experience was just an anomaly, but with the standard of the café and restaurant scene in Auckland seriously improving over the past few years, i'm not rushing back anytime soon. read more

I'm not sure whether my feelings towards Fraser's are a genuine love of this place or whether I just immensely appreciate the fact that somewhere that isn't a crusty takeaways is open late at night. I've lived in the general vicinity of Mt Eden village for a good number of years and only wandered in a couple of months ago.. since then I've been here on quite a few occasions where I finished work kinda late or was on my way home from going out and wanted something to eat that wasn't a massive main or greasy guilty burgers. This place has a welcoming comforting vibe.. even after my first time I already felt like Fraser's was my 'local.' A range of tempting cheesecakes and baked goods are always waiting for you up front which I have immense difficulty choosing from.. I can definitely vouch for the lemon meringue and New York cheesecake though a couple of their other cheesecakes weren't as indulgent as I had hoped. Sometimes I drive past on my way to work at the awful time of 6am and there are already a healthy number of patrons sitting at their tables. Though this place might not make the most mindblowing food it's definitely a favorite option when I feel like cheesecaking the night away. read more

Frasers is legendary for its desserts. They are top notch. You can order from an everchanging array of cabinet cakes and desserts, or chose from more elaborate patisserie chef. They're 5 star! The service is order at the counter, get a table and a number and your food is brought to you. Not much to say about that. The food itself is pretty good. I've had a couple of omelettes and a big breakfast and all have been pretty good. Nothing to rave about but worth the price and better than some other higher priced places in Mt Eden. Well what can I say! SUCH a disappointment. The only good thing was the new renovation but everything else was appalling. Sat down at the table and waitress came back with menus but no opportunity to order coffees - missed opportunity there! Then it came to ordering our breakfast - no half portions which was a little disappointing. So I ordered the Eggs Benedict without toast and asked to swap out for a hash brown. Waitress said this was ok. My partner ordered the toast with selection of jams and a Vienna. Another waitress came back to confirm the order as there was some confusion. We confirmed the order. She came back again and said that in the weekends there's no changes to the menu so I couldn't swap out the toast. So I ordered the toast ( gluten free ) with the spreads. Meals arrived and again SUCH a disappointment. So mean with their portions. Around half a tablespoon of cream cheese along with 3 different jams. Then it came to paying. What a nightmare. They got the wrong tab and couldn't work out what we ordered so I stood there for around 10 minutes while they worked it out. Overall a huge letdown and I won't be going back. Frasers has sat in this famous corner for decades! Almost a landmark that most Aucklanders know. This afternoon, I came in here to pick up a quick Iced American before work. And it was beautiful. The coffee was actually good, especially for those of us who drink black coffee religiously. I should probably figure out which barista made mine today! Nonetheless, Frasers is probably best known for their cakes so check out their cabinet! *NY Cheesecake* usually hits the spot for me. Their kitchen doesn't do a bad job of mains either. This place is great cause its one of the only cafes in this area open late, so if you want a relaxed catch up with a friend after hours, its a good place to go. read more

I grew up in Mount Eden. Frasers has been around for as long as I can remember, at the intersection in Mount Eden Village. While the establishment on the corner on the opposite side of the road seems to go out of business and change hands every couple of years, Frasers is steadfast. The café is open all day, and late into the night. It's one of the few nice places to go grab a coffee and some cake after 9:00pm. In the day I like to order off the kid's meal - there's a good bacon and eggs option, as well as a macaroni and cheese. The potato cake with bacon, avocado and blue cheese sauce is a good, if slightly alternative, brunch option. Pro-stalker tip: Great people watching can be done from the outside tables. read more

Here is my old time favorite cheesecake shop. This place has the best baked cheesecake and chocolate cake that I've ever tried! The price is around $7.50 for a slice with complimentary yogurt or cream or both! I've tried their Banoffee and Bailys one too but the chocolate is on top of my list. They do other desserts such as Profiteroles (icecream in puffs dazzled with chocolate and berry syrup plus berries) and Tiramisu, which are fantastic too ($12.50). Frasers is always full and as I've been there so many times, I don't go as often as before. However uploading this image makes me want to go back soon :) But beware, their bathroom isn't as fancy as their desserts and it is a long way from tables... read more

Frasers, once my favourite now leaves me feeling sad. The size of coffees shrunk, the service is friendly but fake, it used to be the neighbourhood local where they know you by name and your usual order. Though the decor is lovely it's not inviting and slightly confused. The only time I visit now is when I have the occasional craving for their muffins, before I used to sit and enjoy while writing or reading but now I feel out of place. By all means updates were necessary but this was an entire culture shift. read more

My favourite spot for dessert. Casual and vibrant atmosphere makes for good times amongst those who are lucky enough to join you in the adventure to Frasers. They have such a wonderful selection of deserts which are larger than any portion size that you would expect. My favourite which is also a classic is the fix; which comes with vanilla bean icecream, chocolate cake, chocolate sauce, baileys sauce and chocolate decorations. Frasers is in the heart of Mt Eden Village shops and serves consistently amazing coffee! As said before- Frasers is known for their cakes and desserts. Had a banana, almond and date bran muffin this morning from them- was light and airy despite being bran. The food menu remains consistent- always has numerous appealing meals, however, the prices are a bit steep for a lunch time meal but the portions means that it could easily be shared by two people. Its a great place to head before or after a movie for dessert and coffee with friends as it is open late. read more

I agree with the comments earlier regarding nice renovation ...but the food is a real disappointment. Before the renovation Fraser's had great food and very average coffee. Now the place is very nice decor, the staff look very professional, coffee is a lot better and now the food is no good.. What's going on Mr Fraser???? Bring back some of the old food as this new menu is not something many of the loyal customers will want. No doubt many of your customers will walk away and down to other cafes in the village. Decent enough coffee but $6.50 for "potato koftas" that were just packet potato gems. Pretty solid dessert menu choice however. Recommended for either a hot beverage or dessert, stay away from the cooked food. read more
