My boyfriend and I signed up to do the dance program, starting as beginners, and have already moved up to second-from-beginners level haha! We are having an AMAZING time- not only are we learning a lot of dance moves so we can be even more confident on the dance floor, but it is a great date night- a fun way to get close to your loved one and have a partner activity that makes you both smile. The teachers are absolutely amazing, so warm and fun. We mostly take classes with Lee and Pavel- and they both make it so fun and easy :) Another plus is all the fun events and parties FADS hosts- almost every holiday they have a dance party where you can meet new people and dance and dress up. She has Cerebral Palsy- 4 other studios turned her down for any type of dance lesson sight unseen- long story short she was welcomed with open arms - literally -and has been dancing at Fred Astaire for over a year and loves dancing even more. So, I'm updating my review of the Fred Astaire Upper Montclair studio. First, I posted my first review February 2010, and now, January 2014 I'm still there and going strong. What does that tell you? An awesome place to learn to dance, meet new people, make good friends and have a blast! How many other places can you say that? That's what I thought. Second, this place has great teachers who are all accomplished dancers. They can teach any age, any level. They make it fun and the experience will be one you won't forget. Third, the students are friendly and fun to hang with. You won't just come for a lesson and go home, you're sure to get caught up in many a conversation. And you'll soon find yourself with new friends that you'll meet outside the studio. Yes, you can be part of this cool place. So what are you waiting for? Come stop by, you won't be sorry. My fiancé and I started taking lessons with Tim, Kaitlin and the rest of their crew in February to prepare for our June wedding. They welcomed us with arms wide open and we haven't looked back! In just two short months, we feel (and supposedly look) so much more comfortable on the floor. Our knowledge of ballroom dance has expanded and we're already adding steps that I never could have imagined we would be able to do! We recently switched to taking our lessons on their virtual platform, and although it took the first lesson to get used to, it's definitely still a great time! Kaitlin and Tim are still showing us new moves and are able to correct our positions. We look forward to our weekly dance lessons, and can't wait to get back into the studio space! I go here mainly for the Zumba classes, but as I've waited by the large dance floor for my class to begin, I have seen the attention their staff gives to clients who are learning. Make no mistake this place is as good as it gets, and they are a premium facet of their neighborhood. read more

My husband gave me a certificate for us to take one group and two private lessons together. We worked with Kaitlin and Pasha, who were fantastic. We are beginners but learned so much in so many styles in such a short time and really enjoyed doing it! I wish we could have taken more lessons and made it to their practice parties but unfortunately we just don't have the ability to continue right now. I highly recommend them! read more
