However, hula is so beautiful and relaxing that I got caught up in the entire dance and cultural experience. I now cannot imagine not dancing hula and have learned from the best. I had taken a Hawaiian dance class previous to moving to FL while living in Los Angeles and by far, Kumu Chrissy is the best; truly a gifted teacher. I doubt there are few of her skill level outside of Hawai'i. She truly enjoys what she does and it shows in her dedication to her students. And it's a lot of fun. The group of dancers (that has grown from a dozen to around 80) have become a second family as we perform at shows and competitions. From young children to retirees, we are truly blessed to have this wonderful opportunity experience in Brevard.

My favorite part is the new, custom floors they made to absorb the shock on your knees and hips from leaping and jumping. The instructors are bubbly and fun. As for COVID, everyone was required to wear a mask when they entered and had their temperature checked at the door. The dancers are spaced out during the lesson and are instructed to like up at the bathroom to wash their hands after each class. I watched the barres being sanitized after every class. I have spent several nights at Studio 5-6-7-8 watching the instructors teach her proper form and technique. The instructors care for all the children in and out of the classes. They are excellent teachers. When I was a teenager, I was the older brother that followed my sister to her dance classes and finally joined her (it is a great selling point telling a teenage boy that they get to dance with girls). After a few years, my sister and I joined the Twin Cities Ballet Company. Unfortunately, when I moved to Florida, I stopped dancing because I was accepted to join the St Petersburg Ballet Company but I could not move to the area and then could not find anywhere to dance when I was in the area I had moved to. Listening to the instructors, I hear them talk to the students like my instructors taught me. They are very professional and respectful to the children. Several years ago, my son has started taking classes for Drums and joined the Studio Rock Band as the drummers. Mr Micheal has taught my son appreciation for his instrument and encouraged him to also learn to play the guitar. Also, Studio 5-6-7-8 always have wonderful and entertaining Recitals at the end of the school year. As someone that knows what it takes to learn for quality dance teachers, I can completely recommend Studio 5-6-7-8 to anyone. It is a pleasure watching my children and all the other students learning to enjoy music and dance. I hope that they will keep up their love for this all through their lives. The owners, Julie and Michael, genuinely care about their students and sacrifice so many hours to create the perfect atmosphere for their business. My daughter became a skilled dancer and more importantly, she gained confidence and learned discipline. Ms. Julie's no nonsense policies are just what parents need to keep from falling into the "dance drama" pit. The annual recital has become a broadway quality show worth every penny. We really miss this school and I would recommend it to anyone!

I was told during recital prep that volunteers had a system to make sure kids and parents would be identified and no one would get lost. That system turned out to be a hair band on the parents wrist. Really? No wristband with the child's name? What stopped someone from giving the band to someone else or someone using a band of their own to get a child they don't have parental rights? The inside of the younger kids room was pandemonium. Kids were getting hurt because the older kids were horsing around and not listening to the adults. I had no confidence that my 3 year old daughter would have been kept safe without me being in there.

Then switches back on a dime and exveryone is supposed to forget about it. Even if little ones not yelled at, they see this. My child was approached and pressured to join company without consulting with me first, causing a year long rift with my child the next year as the constant performances even at places like country clubs and restaurants did not fit into our family's schedule as we have 2 other kids and their schedules to balance, and added rehearsals week of a showdolls show were too much with school. Plus, i work nights so could not volunteer as the mothers are expected to make it their life too, for no discounts or pay or anything. The instruction was just okay, and the acro in particular was really lame. Way overcrowded and work on the same 4 moves for years. Also, they are laying all over the floor and it's filthy, do not have a cleaning company because it's all about the money there and totally disorganized...lice and athlete's foot run rampant all year. We switched mid year to another studio and it is worth the drive. No mothers expected to work for free, clean as a whistle, no bubbling floors, they pay staff well and teachers are good, more than one show a year without comiting to 'company' and nice people who will not go postal on your kid. Do yourself a favor and RUN! Don't be fooled by proximity when the personalities could damage how your child feels about her talents.

I have experienced from the owner unauthorized charges, multiple instances of blatant dishonesty,…read moreconcerning recital practices, a paid item that was never provided, suddenly rescheduled classes, accounting errors, and a threat to consult with a local lawyer because of my candid review. I signed up for a future class in person and explained that I would not like to provide a credit card for recurring charges because of ongoing home renovation, which we were paying with credit cards for the points. I was told that was perfectly fine. I ultimately enrolled my daughter in 4 classes. Shortly after, I noticed many charges of $35 on my bank statements. I found it odd, so I texted the owner, Rebecca. She said, "it's not a monthly fee it is a declined credit card fee." She also claimed that they incur the fees every time they attempt to run a card and it is declined. She said in addition to that fee, it also costs her money to "pay staff to redo the account transactions" on my behalf. When I asked her to show proof of these fees she pays when a card is declined, she replied, "we can speak in person but I don't feel texting is a good form of communication." Right... I reminded Rebecca of my circumstances. She insisted that it was not her responsibility to let me know a card was declined. Apparently picking up the phone or sending an email stating "we need another card" isn't as easy as charging $35 per attempt. After our call, I noticed my credit card still had plenty of room for the payment. I called my bank and learned that the reason for the decline was not my issue, but rather a protective measure because her venue was associated with a large amount of contested charges! After the incident, we cancelled 2 non recital classes and kept 2 classes so my daughter could attend the holiday performance and re-assess. While some received spectacular costumes, we were forced to rent costumes that looked like they had been washed, dried, and bleached for years. They were highly pilled, stretched, and faded, and they smelled. The same costumes were available to purchase on Amazon for less than 1/2 of Rebecca's cost. So the parents coordinated and bought our children new costumes. Then Rebecca announced she was charging us for new tights of the same color, yet selling elsewhere for 1/3 of her price. A money grab at every turn. When we cancelled the 2 classes, no one ever responded but she somehow cancelled 3 by mistake. And when she fixed her error, she charged us AGAIN for registration! She said, "the system automatically put the fees in." But the recital was the most disturbing performance I have ever seen. Very young children were paraded on stage in provocative costumes and some were lined up and positioned in back bends with their legs spread open toward the audience. My husband and I were beyond horrified. This studio also participates in Tremaine Dance Conventions. I highly recommend your thoroughly research those competitions before you select a studio. Never were we so happy to leave a studio. But even that process came with more unnecessary bitterness. More unauthorized charges, false accusations that we tried to recruit her staff to come with us. I do not own a studio or have any power, influence, or ability to recruit teachers to anything. When we handed in our rented rags, we were told we could have the tights they made us buy. That never happened either. Rebecca finally replied to let me know she removed the charges for December (for the classes we cancelled in November) and to wish me luck in finding another studio to so graciously "accommodate me." Seriously? I was shamed by Rebecca for missing and cancelling classes ... but they rescheduled classes freely. A few moms warned me about her right after we signed, and I truly wish I had taken their concerns seriously. When we explored other studios of a much higher calibre, we were told my daughter must forget everything she learned here, as the technique is not to their standards. Now that we have been with one of the best facilities for a month, I see that.
