There were no direct flights fry the Bay Area so we spent a couple days in Greece and then flew to Frankfurt and then to Billund. It is a small airport and the benefit it is easy to get in and out. We came during off seasons so it was even more quiet and it was easy to rent a car when we decided impromptu to get one without having reserved one before. After the long trip it was great being greeted by Lego stuff right at baggage claim getting both kids super excited. There is a smaller replica of the Lego tree inside of Lego House and there is a fun blue Trex opposite to the "Visit Lego House" wall. Exiting the baggage claim there is a 1:1 lego built statue with a welcome to Billund sign. All of these are great photo opportunities and a good reminder of the towns association with Lego, even the airport itself was constructed originally by Lego. We didn't leave from this airport so I wasn't able to check but years ago there was an exclusive "Lego Billund" airport set that you could only buy at this airport.

Billund Airport was a short hop from Copenhagen and easy to navigate. They hosted both Denmark…read moredomestic and some international flights. We only flew one way into Billund and found it to be not very crowded and easy to navigate given its smaller size. From the time we disembarked from our SAS flight we quickly exited baggage claim in less than 15 minutes. It could've been faster if not for the various Lego creations installed throughout the airport that we just had to photograph. The taxis, rental cars and buses to Legoland and downtown Billund were just outside arrivals. The buses were inexpensive and took about 15 minute to downtown.. Another must see for Lego lovers in Billund..

Although the bathroom could do with some upgrades. Quite out of date and very little vanity space. Of course, this is specific to the room I stayed in. Perhaps the other rooms are different. Also, no air conditioning which can be stuffy during the summer months. Despite these minor notes, the room is comfortable. The lobby restaurants are a property highlight! I enjoyed the sushi restaurant so much that I visited twice during my stay. Nice quality of food and well varied menu. I also found the Italian steakhouse pleasant. I should also mention that the included breakfast was delicious and offered great options. I will definitely stay again as I enjoy the friendly service, clean rooms and delicious eateries.

Round up to four stars if you're fairly easy to please about hotels. What you get: Great downtown location. Half a block from the train station. Cool older construction; maybe genuinely historical construction, of the main facade building. Pass through the lobby and there's much modern construction behind that, where most of the rooms are (though some are in the attractive facade building). Cool atrium area with a really good continental breakfast. Enormous high glass ceiling. Full bar. Lots of corny potted plants. They have cool dances for older folks here on the weekends. It's actually a nice setting, though the entertainment choices skew a bit geriatric. Big, comfortable rooms with gigantic eurotubs that you can soak in all day. Carpets are pretty thrashed though. Reasonable rates. Cool Malt Whisky Society attached. If you're a member, you can buy litres of interesting custom single malts with really funny names. Very high-end stuff, priced accordingly. Evidently there's a truly spectacular scotch festival here at some point during the year--one of the best in the world, if I understand it correctly. Very friendly and nice staff. From a value standpoint, it's easy to look past the basic nature of the building and the dirty carpets and push this to four stars, no problem.

There is a piano in the restaurant so I guess at some stage someone plays it? The rooms are well presented with lots of natural daylight. All in all a decent hotel one which I would use again. Needles to say the staff were all multilingual, as there was a large group of spanish people staying here and the staff switched from their native tongue to spanish then english and back again.

The lobby is bright and inviting with a large bar (which is well stocked with local brews) with plenty of comfy places to sit and chat. The resturant staff are very helpful as all the staff have been, although house keeping do come around by 8am so if you need to sleep a bit longer use the signs provided in your room!! My bedroom, whilst overlooking the car park, was spacious with a comfortable bed!! No tea or coffee making facilities though :0( The shower area could use a refresh in my opinion as the main room area has a funky feel to it whilst the shower room just feels old. Free wifi is available throughout the hotel and it has good down and upload speeds. I think because of its location it is more of a business hotel and it certainly has plenty of large meeting spaces and smaller break out rooms and comfortable areas to just sit and relax or chat.
