I was very excited, booked room on the lake at Quality Inn and pulled back my curtains to enjoy the view. I think I have fell in love with this town. Glacial Grooves is a beautiful and interesting stop on the island. It's in/part of the state park,…read morebut since it's pretty popular, has it's own parking, and then the trail connects to the North Shore loop. The grooves are pretty cool to see, and there were some informative plaques to explain the history and geology of the place. It won't take you long to see, unless you're hiking the trails. We went back a second time for the trail, and minus an off-leash uncontrolled dog incident, had a pretty good time.

Historical area This…read moreis a great area to walk around the lighthouse. There are historical markers around the property that tell you about highlights of the lighthouse. Gives you a glimpse into the history of the area. I don't believe you can tour the lighthouse and there is no staff to ask questions. Worth the 15 minutes to stop and check it out.

I didn't know too much about the Great Lakes so I thought I would visit this museum. The museum…read moreconsists of two parts: an indoor museum that is semi-interactive. There is a series of non-stop videos on the Great Lakes, maps, history, gift shop, etc. Everything is labeled and explained. The second part is the ship - Colonel James M. Schoonmaker. Both are self-guided tours. The indoor museum will take you about an hour if you read everything and see some of the videos. The ship, however, will take you at least an hour plus depending on how depth you want to know about the ship. The ship has two levels; bottom level is where the engines and storage are located. The top level is the deck that leads you to their living quarters. The living quarters is two stories with no elevators. The bottom level is accessible only by a steep, narrow iron ladder.

It does now have a little shelter over top, though it seems the birds like that, resulting in a decent amount of bird poop. The signage is informational and helpful, complete with an image of the petroglyphs to help you visualize what is on the rock.

Being a self-proclaimed regular reader, I've been to many libraries in my life. Some were small,…read morehad a limited selection of books and DVDs, and reaked of nasty little children. The library I grew up with always had tiny asian kids running around causing a raucus (I was one of them, till age 10). Nevertheless, I was really impressed as I drove up to this beautiful glass building with regal architecture (for Perrysburg, anyhow). There are several dropboxes in the front of the building guided by the driveway. Why leave your car in 19 degree weather? Inside the building, it's clean and well-lit, and the room is lined with plenty of places to sit. Along with plushy chairs, there are neat little booths all around that you can sit in to do some work. The children's section takes up about half the main floor. I haven't ventured in there to claim MY Harry Potter, but it looks impressive and spacey. There are also several computers that are surprisingly not ancient. What surprised me most about this library was it's vast, up-to-date DVD collection. There's no limit on how many DVDs you can check out, and you can hold it for 1 week. You can also check out books for up to 4 weeks, which is pretty amazing. I remember the good old days when books can be borrowed for only 2. Why is it when I ask for, and finally receive help, especially from younger employees, they seem to…read morehave this need to rub your nose in it, as if it's all your fault! Seems like there's a creepy streak in some employees of looking over your shoulder, too. This is why I quit public libraries after 2020 to now...maybe these spaces aren't welcome places anymore.

The kids felt. is where it's at though! The librarian at the desk was super friendly, and kind enough to mention some cool things of note, especially after we mentioned we were both librarians who worked with kids! So jealous of this beautiful children's' dept.! We loved the gorgeous tile work around the walls, the Nancy Drew special collection, and how inviting the space was, especially with all of the displays the kids can climb on and into! Would definitely bring kids here!
