Gives you a glimpse into the history of the area. I don't believe you can tour the lighthouse and there is no staff to ask questions. Worth the 15 minutes to stop and check it out.

Glacial Grooves is a beautiful and interesting stop on the island. It's in/part of the state park,…read morebut since it's pretty popular, has it's own parking, and then the trail connects to the North Shore loop. The grooves are pretty cool to see, and there were some informative plaques to explain the history and geology of the place. It won't take you long to see, unless you're hiking the trails. We went back a second time for the trail, and minus an off-leash uncontrolled dog incident, had a pretty good time.

Awesome area to explore…read more The village is the area with most of the shops, restaurants and bars. You can easily get here by taking the jet express and the area is easy to walk. There is a park in the center of everything that has bathrooms and showers. The park is a great place to hang out for all ages with a playground for kids, historical markers and picnic tables. Around the park is a variety restaurants, bars, and shops to explore. Everything from ice cream to tacos. Not far off the main section you can walk to the village beach, Perry's monument, winery, and the boardwalk.

The monument is closed because you people elected idiots to run our government, so be aware of that…read morebefore you try to visit. It's also in the middle of renovations which I guess are on hold. Perry's monument is a giant 300-foot tall dangus that sticks up out of the middle of Put In Bay island. It's a memorial to a bunch of stuff from the war of 1812, but it's really just a nice location to feel the breeze and look at the lake and sit in the shade of the giant concrete dongus. If it were open, one could ride up and down in it, but it's still a peaceful area. There is a visitors center too for those of you into reading and learning about stuff.

It seemed cheap to explore but with kids I didn't think we would get to enjoy it. They also have a small gift shop with new items like kids toys and books about the island. The church is free to tour and is cool for the age of the structure. The house is a resale shop. They have almost anything you would find in a house from kitchen items to Christmas decorations. Even used clothing. It is all kind of cluttered together and junky but you could find a treasure.

Perhaps arrows on the floor might help direct visitors along a chronological path through the museum. The museum and mansion are in a beautiful park-like setting. Kids aged 6 - 12 are $5. They give discounts for military, AAA members and senior citizens, but sadly none for educators (seems this place would be perfect for U.S. history teachers). The grounds are beautiful, the history is interesting, the museum is jam packed with information (though a bit haphazardly arranged, along with some overzealous motion detection security on some of the larger items). Our tour guide for Rutherford's house (Dick) was lovely and very knowledgeable. Overall worth the money and an interesting stop on our whirlwind tour of America and all of its idiosyncratic history.

It does now have a little shelter over top, though it seems the birds like that, resulting in a decent amount of bird poop. The signage is informational and helpful, complete with an image of the petroglyphs to help you visualize what is on the rock.

I don't know how to rate a cemetery especially one of prison and war. This is one of only two…read moreconfederate cemeteries in Ohio. I grew up 20 minutes from here and knew it existed but had never been here (that I remember). To think how young some of these men must have been and that some probably were forced to fight and die away from their families is sad, as war always is. If we don't learn from history we are destined to repeat it.... The island is private another reviewer suggests driving around to look at the houses. There are signs everywhere asking not to do so.

More history in NW Ohio…read more It took me a while to appreciate the history of NW Ohio... what with the battle of Lake Erie occuring... in Lake Erie (woah), and this confederate cemetary here (which I only discovered a few years ago). The Black Swamp history. The glass city. The area may seem bland, but the history is there. There's not much that can be said about the cemetary... It's a cemetary. Not as large as Arlington, obviously. But it sure has an impact on you when you walk in. I'm glad for the photos another user has uploaded here. The cemetary is located on Johnson's Island out at the tip of Marblehead. You have to pay $1 to use the bridge to access the island, unless you can duck through the gate behind a resident islander (or know the code). Once on the island, don't just go to the cemetary... drive around and appreciate the amazing houses on the "inner circle" inlet. Pretty wild... And don't forget to stop at the Marblehead Lighthouse, then grab a bite at Netty's Chili Dogs. =)
