Anyway, I stopped in here just to see what this attraction was all about. Entry is $6 for adults and you get to watch a 30 minute film about the history of Lafitte and take a walk through the museum. There's also a nature trail behind the museum that you can check out. The film was great and actually very up to date and educational. I enjoyed it. If you watch the film, you have to wait until the end for the appearance of a special guest. It's worth the $6 admission- trust me. The museum itself is pretty neat and teaches a bit about the lifestyle and people of Barataria. The nature trail is wonderful and, if I hadn't been here on an unseasonably warm October day, I would have walked the full trail, rather than just a portion of it. Still, I enjoyed it and it was a relaxing stroll.

The architecture and design is a complete novelty - there are no ships here in danger of running aground on Camp Street even though the rotating light still works. The architect of the lighthouse was Emile Weil, who also designed the Saenger Theatre. Oscar Gwin Jr. was in charge of construction. The lighthouse portion of the building was modeled after the Milneburg lighthouse, located on the UNO campus where Pontchartrain Beach amusement park was located. There is a small room in the lighthouse portion of the building that is accessible. There was also an really nice 2nd story outdoor deck. The space does seem to still be a work in progress. There was room filled with junk that was visible from the main space via windows. The bathroom door either stuck or wouldn't close and there's only 1 which is an issue at a dinner for 50 people. But it's such an interesting space that I hope they can make it work. It's been featured on Roadside America because it's such an unusual building. The lighthouse was added to a boring old building in 1924 when this spot became the Lighthouse for the Blind...which hasn't been here for decades. Most recent business that I can remember was the lighthouse glass studio. So fingers crossed that they can make a go of it...

I don't know why, but the students that use this place are horribly disrespectful and grotesque like they have no manners. It's really a shame that such a nice resource is ruined by churlish brats. Maybe come on weekday morning to peruse the book titles. But don't stay past 1:00 because You Will Regret It!!

I wish I had known about this library when I was in school, this would have been an ideal place to come spread out and study. I do love a nice quiet place to study. As mentioned in a previous review, they do have small study rooms to use, which I love. The librarians are friendly, and I have never had an issue with anyone here. You can request items from other branches to be picked up here, which is nice. The parking lot is on the small side, but this is a small branch of the library. I really like coming here.

There's really not much more to say about Wagner Library, except for one cool discovery that I made in here. This library has tiny rooms with a desk, outlets, and a door. Between these private, underutilized spaces and the free wifi, I thought, "Hey, I could make this into an office." And that's what I did. All was moving along swimmingly. I was Yelping, I was Facebooking. I was Tweeting. And then I realized my office was lacking one crucial detail. I needed an assistant to bring me lattes and things. So I looked around, found the meekest looking person in that joint (not hard. this *is* a library), and started barking orders. "Thelma!" (Actually, I'm not sure what my assistant's name was, but I'm writing the checks here, so I can call her what I want, right? Well, technically, I'm not writing checks. Thelma is doing more of an internship, but this internship will be *great* experience (with college credit!), so I don't feel obligated to get into semantic arguments with you on this, ok? So anyway...) "Thelma, go get me a grande non-fat soy chai latte with a half shot of espresso extra hot...Thelma, go get me some of those Zuckerberg-style business cards that say 'I'm CEO, bitch' on them...Thelma, order me a gold-plated placard that says 'Do not disturb. Yelping in progress.'...Thelma, go get me some sexy panties for my date with Sergio tonight." Thelma did not budge. And that's where my experience at the Wagner Library went sour. You really cannot find good help these days. I offered this woman a huge opportunity to further her career and guess what? Nothing. The library was fine, my office was nice, but do not go to Wagner Library hoping to find a decent assistant.
