Lauren Freed did an outstanding job in capturing me and my fiancés engagement photos! She was super helpful and asks all the right questions before hand, leading up to the day she maintained strong communication, and day of she was in a position and ready capturing our special moment perfectly. She was truly great to work with, and was able to turn out photos around VERY quickly. She advised that she'd need a week which was good, but then ended up getting them back to us within 48hrs. 10/10 would definitely recommend. read more

They do school photos for my child's school, and are terrible at posing the kids for a good outcome. Two years now with them and my kid's photos are unsatisfactory. Shirt is outside of pants, collars uneven, having the kid look up to the corner (70's style posing). And on top of that, extremely expensive. The lighting is off, but to fix it, you have to pay extra. I've only ordered a digital print and then use Photoshop to at least fix the lighting and crop off the where the shirt is shown obviously outside of the pants. read more

Our school has used Freed throughout our time there and I'm only belatedly appreciating what consistently good service they have provided. They always offer high-quality photos to select from, whether it's for the school portrait, or at performances or special events. Better yet, they're extremely nice and responsive. Whenever we ask for retouching or another alteration they always get back to us quickly and do a great job. One thing we always like to ask for is the removal of the Freed logo from prints, just a word to the wise. read more

Stupid expensive. Insecure website as already mentioned. Horrible photos. It looks like this company need some expert advice all around. Hire a web developer and fix your website- never mind we can start putting the pics up of anyone as you have zero security. Do not worry you will get the credit as you watermark all your photos. Buy some good cameras or just move to a good cell phone. Your pics are worst than my iPhone 10. Lastly a digital download for one picture- $49 are you crazy? I think highway robbery when I see these crazy prices. read more

Freed photography has taken school photos of my son at least three times over the course of 4 years. They are all awful! I am not a professional petrographer and I take much better photos of children than these "photographers" who have no clue what photography is, and who want me to [ay USD 50 for a ridiculously bad shot. My son had special needs, he has physical and mental disabilities. when I look at the photo's of neurotypical children taken by Freed Photography, they are not good either but they are not as bad as photos of my son over the years. This makes me think that they just do not bother taking a good shot of children with disabilities. Their photos are worth not even a penny. do not waste on money on these worse than amateurs. read more

Takoma Park Elementary uses Freed to take annual class pictures of students. Two things about Freed photography that need to be fixed ASAP: 1. Freed puts its name on the child's pictures. I don't want Freed's name on my pictures. On its website, the sample class pictures they show do not have the Freed name showing up on the pictures. 2. The website with the pictures is NOT secure. Anyone with a access code can look at any child's pictures. About a year ago a woman posted this same exact complaint about Freed on Google reviews and it's still not fixed. Her review is below: "ANYBODY has access to EVERY photo because they're on the web - all you need is a pass code and you can access ANY child's photo!!!!! Even photos at other schools!!! How is that safe????" This is totally unacceptable. If Freed is not able to rectify the issues above, Takoma Park Elementary should switch photographers. I've sent an email to the business, I'll update this review based on their reply. read more

Freed did a fantastic job shooting my wedding - they were very friendly, professional, and thorough...and they somehow managed to get flattering pictures of even the most difficult friends and family. Very disappointed. Inexperienced photographers, low quality website, terrible customer service.

They were used for my son's photographs at Janney elementary. Because it was shot indoors due to the rain, they all had this ugly yellowish brownish background. I called to complain and they offered me a free redo. I scheduled an appointment. The photographer was just ok. I had to coax him to try to shoot more natural poses of my son but the end result was pretty good. The problem is that they then lost the photos. I have been calling for the last two months and they have twice promised me a callback after they have a chance to look for them, but they have not even bothered to touch base or apologize. I am not sure where the disconnect is but I am quite upset. read more

I got married in August 2010. The photographer we chose John. His portfolio was impressed me. We sat down and discussed what I wanted out of the experience. During the sit-down, he was polite and courteous. This is where the compliments end. He seemed to listen until I mentioned a photo list. He assured me that oh, he wouldn't need a list since our guest list was so small (roughly 35 guests). There'd be time to get every photo taken, he'd make sure of it. Shame on me for not insisting on that list. I was too busy actually enjoying my wedding to pay attention to what he was photographing, or rather, what he wasn't photographing. I wanted posed photos of my father and me and of my entire family. He took none with just my father & me and only two of the entire family. Of those two, both were out of focus. Several of the photos had the white umbrella they use to brighten photos IN THE FRAME. And because of the way the photos were composed, I cannot crop them out. There are about 20 photos of the seating arrangements, placemats, and various other things I can't imagine wanting in a wedding album. I am sorely disappointed and would not recommend this guy to anyone. read more

Terrible experience with this company. Frustrating interactions with staff members. Online shipping promotion was not working when I tried to use it; the company honored the promo but Neal made me feel stupid for mentioning that it didn't work. Print finally arrived (slow shipping more likely a result of covid delays than Freed's fault), however two prints had the Freed logo in the corner, while the other dozen prints I ordered did not. I originally requested a reprint without logo but because prints were for Christmas gift and reprints wouldn't make it in time, I requested a refund (of just those 2 prints). Carla refused and was super rude about it. I'm not sure I understand the logic of reprinting and shipping as more economically viable for a company vs. refusing to refund 2 prints and creating bad blood with customers. I suppose their proclamation that "Our goal is to make you happy!" is just lip service. Numerous other, kinder indie photo studios in the DMV - would recommend going elsewhere. read more

FREED PHOTOGRAPHY does all sorts of events and they've even stepped in and transformed the "old school" school photos (that 99% of the time were horrible) into something I have been utterly amazed by. They're taken in a truly natural setting (NO FAKE TREES or fences!). AND they take several photos of your child so that you have a nice array to choose from. Best ever!! read more

Freed Photography is one of very few shops that has several photographers, editors, everything in one shop. Unlike most places, they are not one photographer doing everything, they are a full service shop of several people. They do beautiful work, are happy to work within anyone's budget and are just wonderful people to work with. As an event planner, I really enjoy sending my clients to them and getting to work with them myself. They are a great team, all of them. read more

Although the actual photos turned out fine, the setting was simply a red brick wall -- which looks awful with any color. That choice is so weak and just lazy. They should have brought their own back drop cloth or chosen trees as a more lush and 'neutral' setting. That is my first criticism of the actual photographing. The second is in the ordering process. They lost our order and when I called to find out where it was -- as they never sent even an email confirmation of the order -- a woman named Shelley Dane answered and was so utterly unprofessional in not only her defensiveness, but her combative manner of 'conversing'. It was horrible. She made ME feel like I had the problem for asking what happened -- and I did so ever so graciously -- to our order as I'd like them before the holiday break to give as gifts to the extended family. She continued to raise her voice and talk over me and said: "I have no idea what happens in our warehouse that is out of our control!!". I asked her wasn't there a tracking number they could look up...anything? And she continued to literally yell at me that it wasn't their problem and that she'd have to reprint the whole order. I mentioned that I was shocked to have been addressed in such a rude way and as the customer, I should be treated in the exact opposite. She denied any part and never apologized as most people in customer service know how to do it and when. She was simply horrible. I will inform our school of this experience. She should be fired or go into serious customer service training ....or anger management therapy. Wow. read more

These guys do my son's school's individual and class portraits. They are wonderfully done, they have a great easy website to order prints, and they offer some reasonably priced packages and nice gifts (mugs, etc.). Last year, I had a problem when I ordered, and I called and they fixed the problem within a few minutes. Superb customer service. They do their photos outside, so you don't get that cheesy studio effect. I like them so much I suggested my daughter's school use them as well. Definitely would be happy to use them for other photography needs. read more

I had a horrible experience. I ordered photos based on the details in their website. They sent me part of the order. When I called back (after making several calls), they said that their website stated an error in price and I had to pay more to get the complete order. I was not happy and I cancelled the order. They wanted me to send back the photos and then, they refunded the amount MINUS the SHIPPING charges...really!!! I had to pay for their error. They were not at all professional. I dealt with Carla. Will never do anymore business with FREED. read more

WOW! Had a family portrait taken here that Freed donated to a school silent auction. They could not have been friendlier or more accommodating (three generations, three families, and we even took the dog!). Bryan was our photographer. With five kids under 7, he was a master. Warm and accommodating. Worked quickly to get the best shots possible. This place is incredibly professional, but you get really personalized service. They all make you feel like family. Camie set up our appointment and always got back to me the same day when I had scheduling questions or other concerns. Can't say enough about this studio. read more
