I was very disappointed with my most recent experience with Freedom Ink. I have been going to Tim and Freedom Ink for 12 years now. He did my first tattoo and 80% of all my tattoo work. I now live in Texas and wanted to add onto a half sleeve Tim did, so I called and set up an appointment in September inquiring around Christmas. The front desk person said he had an opening on December 24th first thing when the shop opens. I asked if he was sure they were open that day, as I expected them to be closed. He reassured me they were open. He then proceeded to ask Tim if it was okay I booked a double-time slot that day since I don't plan on coming back to Peoria often and they went ahead with the booking. Only after that was confirmed, I made travel arrangements to come back for the holidays based around this appointment. I was not planning a trip home without this tattoo appointment given the pandemic and additional cost of flying home. A little over two weeks before I was due to fly out, I get a call that they are in fact closed on Christmas Eve and the next available wasn't until after I was flying home. I asked if they could see about switching out someone else's appointment who was local, as I had done previously for someone else when I still lived in Peoria. I'm not sure if that was attempted or not but Kai, a different front desk person than before, let me know that Tim would reach out and personally try to work this out. Tim never called me. In fact, I called the shop back four different times over the next week trying to get an answer. Tim did finally Facebook message me after a week of me calling the shop and said I'd probably have to reschedule or refund. I asked if it was possible to come in before the shop opened at 11am on the 23rd since this was in no way my fault and I was coming from out of state for this appointment. That request wasn't even addressed. He just said I'd have to cancel or reschedule. Kai was very understanding and sympathetic and honestly was the only thing that made this encounter bearable, but Tim lacked the professionalism and customer service that I expected from him. As a long-time, repeat customer who has referred countless people to not only his shop, but him personally, I felt like I was really left out to dry in this scenario. This was their mistake and they did nothing to fix it or make up for it. Needless to say, I will not be returning to Tim or his shop for any future tattoos, which is a bummer because he does great work. They were rude and put me off. I did not feel welcome and felt like they had no interest in doing a tattoo for me. I recommended the shop to a friend whose son passed away and they treated her really bad, then charged way too much for what she got. My daughter got a 4 on the side of her wrist the size of a dime and they charged her $75. I won't go there again and I certainly won't recommend it to anyone. read more

I have not been there in a while, limited budget and retired, but the work I have is off the charts, clean, looks new and some are years old. Tim is an artist and if he does not seem friendly it's because his focus is on your tattoo. This guy can sling ink with the big dogs all day. BEWARE OF BAIT AND SWITCH!! I was a walk in and was quoted a price. I went the next day to have it done with original photo from the day before and was told it would be a lot more money. I was also told that for the original quoted price I could have a smaller tattoo, but that part of it could not be done at all. It was the same artist person both times. I am new to the area and if you don't want new business, then just tell the customer up front instead of having them waste their time. I've been getting tattooed by Tim since I was 19. I had 4 tattoos done at 4 different shops prior to Tim. I found his work online around 2006 I believe. From my first experience with him and his work I was mind blown. He is amazingly talented! Since then he's opened his own shop with more employees. I have been tattooed by almost everyone who has worked at Freedom Ink and have never been disappointed in their work. They are all amazingly talented and take pride in their work. I've heard so many people say this shop is pricey and their work is expensive, I am a firm believer in YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR! That rings true, especially in the tattoo industry. I'd much rather pay more money for QUALITY work that I can be proud forever than pay 1/2 the price for a tattoo I'm embarrassed to show people! This shop could be awesome, if it wanted to. First off Tim is a top notch artist. That being said he knows it and for some reason thinks that you should bow at his feet. The way the shop artists talk about the other local tattoo shops being "horrible" leaves a unprofessional taste in my mouth. The $ amount for the work there is crazy. I expect big dollars for a well known artist, but apprentices charging the same?.... I understand that good work cost money but price gouging is stupid.
