Freeland Sports Zone - I'm 67 and thanks to Sportszone, I'm getting stronger and feel great! - Gyms Near Me - Freeland, Michigan

I'm from out of town, but I visited Sports Zone with my dad who has a membership. Wow, what an impressive gym! It's clean, there are towels available, lots of parking, basketball courts, a walking track, and plenty of state of the art (i.e. NEW) machines for everyone to use. I never waited to use any of the equipment. I also appreciated that although there was not a spinning class in session, I was able to go into the spinning room and use one of the bikes. I found another empty (mirrored) room that I'm assuming is used for group classes (yoga, kickboxing, step, etc.). Since it was not being used I went in and used some of the hand weights as well as a yoga mat. I didn't interact with any staff, so I can't speak to how helpful, knowledgeable, or friendly they are. I will definitely look into getting a visitor's pass the next time I'm in town. read more

When i moved to saginaw I heard great things about the sportszone. In the beginning i was impressed for a small town gym, but after experiencing some ups and downs, i am in the middle on if i will renew my membership. price is great, about 20 dollars a month. The hours, well i would like longer hours, but thats just me. The gym is very clean. Most of the staff is very very easy to talk to, and most have a lot of knowelege. My biggest gripe i have, is the lack of 45lb plates. if three or four big guys are working out its hard to find enough weight. I have had my run ins with the staff on equipment, i believe they need to get more and make certain things more accessable. read more

Great gym! Lots of equipment and almost all cardio machines had a tv on them so you can zone out while riding. My only con is it is $10 for a drop in pass. That is much higher than most major cities I travel to. read more

Nice facility, good mix of activities. However as a parent of toddlers the babysitting service needs improvement. They simply rotate in an employee if you show up with kids. From my observations each and every person that has watched my kids has no training whatsoever w kids....not that I'm looking for super nanny but some basic interaction w them would be nice; instead of incessant texting while they are plopped down watching TV. Why not entertain them or play one of the many available sports the facility offers? Overall...very clean, good variety of things to do for only 20/month. Love this gym. Equipment is great and very clean. My main reasoning for this review is to express my extreme dissatisfaction towards the Sportzone staff. As one of the first member joing when the gym opened roughly 5 years ago, one would think I would be greeted with a smile, friendly hello, or even any kind of acknowledgment. Well not at Sportzone. Time and time again I enter to see staff standing around not even attempting to look busy, chatting with each other and most certainly not acknowledging my presence as a main client. It is almost a miracle on days when one of the female employees will tell me to have a nice day. It was not until last week that an employee actually held a conversation with me for the first time in 5 years. Great customer service. read more

The Freeland Sportszone is a warm, inviting place for people of all ages. In my opinion, for some, it's a place to work out to shed some pounds. For others, it's a place to get away and stay active, a place to better oneself and strengthen health. When walking through the big, glass, entrance doors, one gets a feel of welcome and comfort. A warm hello is said to each individual that walks in, making everyone feel at home. When walking into the facility, the sight of happy, healthy people become your surroundings that gives you a sense of determination and drive. This sports center is equipped with a full size gymnasium, indoor track, weight and cardio rooms, group fitness rooms, a sports development room, locker rooms, snack bar, community hall, and multipurpose rooms. Adding to this, a small indoor museum is in the process of being built. It will eventually be a place filled with small animals that range from being the most common to the rarest seen around the world. Facts and information about these animals will be scattered through the museum for people to learn and discover new things. This will bring in more profit to make the Sportszone a better place for all of its current and incoming customers and members. This work out facility includes two full size basketball courts and four smaller courts which can be used for activities for youth and adult sports. Another benefit to this facility is that it offers a babysitting room. This is a convenient place for parents to bring their children while they work out and the fact that no charge is included makes things even better. Adding to this, something very interesting and convenient for members here, is that an after school program is provided to children kindergarten through sixth grade. Township recreation is also run through the Sportszone. Many activities and events are held in and outside of the facility. To me, this is not only a place to stay fit and get in shape, but a place for people to gather and a place to bring a little excitement back into people's lives. Upstairs are the weight and cardio rooms, group fitness rooms, and a small track that runs around and oversees the gymnasium. The main weight room is filled with plenty of ellipticals, treadmills, stair steppers, arm and leg machines, and free weights for everyone. There is always equipment available for people to use. The group fitness rooms are where fast-pace-work outs are conducted by the employees, as well as other classes that are offered. Other classes are those such as Spinning, Cardio Jam, Butts and Guts, Thai Boxing, Yoga, Boot Camp, Cardio/Sculpt, and plenty of others. There are also special classes just for seniors. However, these classes are not free, but are very cheap, only costing two dollars per session. These classes are definitely worth the extra money. Another big room upstairs is the sports development room. This contains thirty yards of AstroTurf, climbing ropes, plyometric boxes, and several other training devices. To make things even better, it was also in my price range. The costs for memberships at the Sportszone vary and members are allowed to pay in full or make monthly payments. For a family membership, a year costs $450 or $37.50/month, for a single adult, a year costs $250 or $20.83/month, and for a youth (22 and under) or a senior (62 and older), a year costs $200 or $16.66/month. Other memberships offered are the 8th month memberships which are paid in full. For college students, the price is $95, and for seniors (single) it costs $165 or (2 people) $275. If people come into the Sportszone that aren't and haven't paid for a membership of any sort, a day pass is available for five dollars. Additionally, if a person comes in to only walk the track, a small fee of two dollars is required. The weekly hours for this facility are very reasonable. Monday through Friday the Sportszone is open from 5:30 a.m-11p.m, on Saturday it's open from 7 a.m-8 p.m, and on Sunday it's open from 8 a.m-8 p.m .These hours are beneficial to everyone because the facility is open early enough and late enough for members to work out before or after whatever activities they have planned during the day. Overall, the Sportszone is a great place to be. This can be a place to get away from the outside world, better one's health, shed some pounds, stay active, interact with others, and so much more. There are so many things to do inside one building, and better yet, it offers something for everyone, no matter what the age. I would highly recommend the Freeland Sportszone to anyone who wishes to stay active and keep in shape. The facility is open nearly all day, every day, which is beneficial to all members. Next to hanging out with friends and listening to music, working out is my favorite thing to do. I'm so glad I have such a wonderful place to do this. The Sportszone is the place to be! read more
