The owners who run this place are nice and engaged in much social and charity work and are more of the alternative/independent type. They serve good local food with healthy ingredients here and you can get into nice and sophisticated talks easily with the folks here at this lodge. This place has it all: nature and the forest just around the corner and a scenic view over the city and into the Alps, what give this place the flair of a retreat center. It's recommended to reach the Alpengarten Rannach by car. So consider the Alpengarten as a secret getaway if you want to explore the nature in the green belt surrounding the city of Graz. Many culture and music events are performed here at their "Art-Protection-Zone". The food served at the Alpengarten is delicious, healthy and home-made and it comes with much love by the owners, who like to chat with their guests. This review is coming late but this restaurant really sticks in my mind so I thought to write a few…read morewords about it. The restaurant sits on the beautiful mountain sides of Deutschlandberg in Steiermark. It is an old style house that is actually a hotel. It has an amazing view of the Deutschlandberg Castle that can be seen off their romantic garden patio. I thought it was so wonderfully romantic, intimate, and relaxing. Also there is a view of the wine yards leading to the Castle and Restaurant. The Staff there was extremely nice and welcoming. I always appreciate a bright smile and a welcoming tone. Now the Food, It was great. I had a Cordon Blue with Fries that was cooked to perfection. I was impressed that the bacon gave off so much flavor to the whole dish. It was definitely a size that could fill me up so i am sure for an average eater your going to need a bag to go. It also came with a mixed salad sort of like a sampler salad. Everything was also fairly priced but i forget exactly how much it cost but i know for 2 people with 3 glasses of wine it came up to €23. The food was great but also the atmosphere was totally worth the visit.

We paid 2€ for it but honestly it wasn't really worth it. You couldn't hardly see anything, not sure if the lens was dirty or worn out or what. The view from natural eyesight was plenty enough- so stunning and peaceful. There was a piece of artwork/ sculpture on this little strip, as well as a place to sit. Could be very lovely to hang out and journal or read or just be in nature.

It's been a rough year for my family and me...a rough few years actually and we needed a diversion. We try to fit in a vacation/time away here and there to get our minds off of "things" and time away was in need, so away we went. Sometimes when you book things online, you never know what you are going to get. This hotel sounded too good to be true. But it was true...and then some! We were blown away by all of it! From the location, the friendly staff, and the room. Take a look at my pictures...I booked a suite at a fair price and it was huge! Normally if you want space, you need to book an apartment of some sort, Airbnb, etc. We definitely had enough room to spread out and not be in each other's way. The beds and pillows were comfortable, but I want to point out my son slept on the pull out sofa bed and it was oddly very comfortable. Oddly because normally they just aren't. The sofa bed was made up before we checked in and they had put a special foam mattress on it making it extra cozy and perfect actually. We didn't need heat or air since the room temperature was perfect when we stayed. The view from the room is of the city, and it was nice to people watch. The location is perfect and within walking distance to historic sites, bakeries, restaurants, etc., not to mention it is right beside a mall and grocery store. The staff is very friendly and helpful. Someone is always manning the desk in case you need something or information. Parking is available through the hotel. If you wish to park in front of the hotel, you must book with them in advance as spaces are limited. However, the mall next door allows parking as well and you get a special price when staying at the hotel, but no need for reservation. Very convenient. There is a restaurant at the hotel as well; however, we didn't get a chance to partake. Moreover, for an extra fee you can have breakfast at the hotel. We did not choose the breakfast option, but it looked like quite the spread. Staying here definitely took our minds off our life events for a little bit...we truly enjoyed our stay. Again, highly recommend!
