Fremont Tennis Center is a fantastic spot for pickleball lovers! There are 4 reservable pickleball courts that are well-maintained and perfect for those who like to plan ahead. In addition to that, there are about 6 more outdoor courts available for open play, plus two mini courts that are great for drills or warming up. The facility is spacious and well-lit--even in the evenings, visibility is great. One of the best parts is the ample parking, which makes getting in and out super convenient, even during busy hours. Renting a court is very affordable--you can book a 2-hour session for just a couple of bucks, making it accessible for regular play. One thing to note: it can get a little windy, so come prepared, especially if you're playing during the afternoon/night. read more

Love playing here with my friends and family but the only main gripe I have about this place is the Australian dude coach. Like other reviews here, he is literally a court cop, literally jumps onto court even on a dead afternoon to kick you off even if you are playing your last point. Keep in mind that every city besides fremont is free to play except Fremont. I've been going here for almost a year and he even treats the regulars scummy. Literally watched him tell an old elderly man to move his chair because it was against the gate by the tennis side even though NO ONE plays tennis at this time. Fremont needs a new manager. None of his staff ever stick longer than a couple months. And none of his staff are ever rule sticklers. get a better attitude loser. read more

They recently changed the price structure so that Fremont residents don't need to pay as much as non-locals, but pricing is still quite steep for those that want to regularly play such that it is more economical to join a private tennis club (there are 2 clubs in Fremont, and Mission Hills Racquet and Swim Club is the most affordable). There's windscreens and evening lighting, and a bench available for both sides of each court which is nice, and there's a built in wait list system on one side of the net. The bathroom can get quite gross and isn't serviced enough. The 3 pickleball courts are over the juniors tennis courts, so the nets aren't regulation quality. Only 2 benches are provided total for the 3 courts, which isn't enough. No windscreens. Lighting isn't ideal for evenings and more light should be added. There are a couple of older women who are busybodies who unofficially lead some grassroots events for pickleball, and they seem initially kind and social but be careful with them since they trash talk a number of people and will try to use you to do activities with outside of pickleball (such as inviting themselves over to your home). It's quite crowded on weekends, and there's not enough parking since there's other sports and park visitors that share the same parking lot. read more

My family and I have been attending tennis classes for several years. The courts are clean and well maintained. They have nice white benches. They have a little pro shop and reserving a court is an easy process. Also the weather is nice that we are able to play almost year round. We take intermediate lessons through Coach Kendrick. He is really good and funny. Our son takes Coach Kendrick's Junior academy class. He provides quality equipment and makes the class enjoyable. His class is always filled so if you want to enroll, you have to enroll as soon as the tennis center opens up the class. Again, much props to Coach Ken. read more

I just started playing tennis and I love how convenient these courts are. You just have to call ahead of time and book your time slots and pay when you get there. It's about $10 /hour. And it's the perfect thing to do with a few friends and play a game of doubles. read more

I've been to some really nice tennis centers in my time and for an outdoor center, this place is pretty great! They have a little pro shop and I've never had problems getting a court. Also, we're lucky to live in an area where we can play tennis almost year round so being outdoors is not a big deal. In fact, I prefer to play when it's cooler out. The courts are well maintained and always clean. Definitely a great place to meet up with friends and hit some balls. My only pickle are the lessons I've taken there. I've not been satisfied having high school kids teach me tennis. Usually, they don't give enough tips or support. It's as if they're there to just hit with you. Sometimes when you're just learning or out of practice and you're payin $10+ per class you want a litle more instruction. Please get better teachers. read more

Looking at the review above, please let me share another bizarre rule at the Fremont Tennis Center. It was 2pm on a weekday afternoon in July. With the 18 courts at this tennis center, about 6 of them were occupied by the kiddy summer tennis camp. Other than the camp, I saw one other court where a young fellow was using a ball machine that he rented from the office at the tennis center. Well, that means there were over 10 empty courts on the facility. I was by myself that day on my day off, so I brought my personal ball machine to the tennis center and paid for an hour of court time. Not a soul was around me and I started to have a fine time hitting balls. But then, about 5 minutes into hitting against my ball machine, a guy whom I presumed was the manager of the facility walked up to me and told me that personal ball machine was not allowed on these courts, in fact all public courts in Fremont. I naturally asked why, he responded it is the "rule". I asked further where I could see these rules, he said the rules are on the city website, but he himself pointed out that the rules actually don't disallow ball machine, the rules disallow having more than 6 balls on a court. So since I had way more than 6 balls in my basket, I couldn't continue. He also pointed at my ball hopper basket and said it is not allowed too by the city rule. I was stunned and confused. I looked over to the other court where the young fellow was using the rental ball machine from the office and obviously having more than 6 balls, so why is the rule only applied to personal ball machines? The only reason I could think of is that the city wants to make more money off of me by only allowing its rental machine on the court, which by the way, I later found out, costs $32 per hour to rent it. And what is the reasoning behind no more than 6 balls are allowed? Let's put aside the issue with the ball machine for a second. If I want to practice serves by myself, which I do frequently, you are telling me I can't have a basket full of balls to do that with? How is it reasonable to ask anyone to only practice 6 serves at a time and then go pick up the 6 balls all the way on the other side of the court, over and over again? Who thought of these dumb rules? read more

This place could have been really great, but it isn't. The positives include the nice court surface and nets; each court is partitioned with low fence so balls don't roll over to the next court. The negatives include the low quality of the pro-shop, the stupid rules (including the covid related rules) that the city put on all their city-run courts. Let me elaborate on the negatives: (1) The sorry pro-shop is barely a shop at all. They have a handful of rackets and couple type of strings you can purchase, but honestly the selection at the sport department at Walmart is better than this. Players at least can buy some balls if they forget to bring any with them. (2) Now about the rules. I just don't understand the rules that the City of Fremont imposes on their tennis courts. They don't allow any non city sponsored lesson (ie: private lesson). But why not at all? I understand you don't want a private coach hogging a free public court for hours on end. But at the Fremont Tennis Center where a reservation fee is required, then why not? Maybe put a limit on how many hours a coach can rent the court, but it is unreasonable to completely ban it, especially when the city itself does not offer any lessons to their residents (take a page out of Sunnyvale/Santa Clara/Cupertino where the cities partner with Lifetime Tennis and they run many lessons for players of all ages everyday). For my daughter's tennis lesson, we now have to travel to San Ramon and Sunnyvale because we don't want to break any rules here in Fremont. How about the rule prohibiting the use of ball hoppers/baskets? I was told by one of the maintenance guys that the hoppers could damage the court. Are you serious? Is the court made of paper? And during covid, I wanted to play with my young daughter and the rule prevented us to use more then 3 balls on the court. It is myself and my 10 year old, from the same household. and like I said the courts are fenced off from the court next to us. I don't see how using a dozen balls would increase the risk of transmitting covid to anyone. But rules are rules..... I would love to play at the Fremont Tennis Center more often, but dealing with those idiotic rules just make tennis impossible for me and my daughter. I drive to Milpitas or even all the way down to Sunnyvale to play with my daughter now. read more

Let me start off by saying the courts here are in good condition and well maintained. The reason I'm writing this review is to forewarn you of a staff member who I'm going to call "court cop." You will know him if you meet him. I have never in all my 20 years of playing tennis met a person like this. We start off by paying for an hour to play. Multiple courts are open at this time, no one is waiting for a court. The minute our hour is over the "court cop" comes out to tell us we can't play anymore. Okay no problem we tell him we want to at least finish out the point we were playing. The "court cop" says "I'm going to call the police if you start the point!" Well we played one more point (winner takes all kind of thing). As we start the point he yells "I m telling my supervisor and calling the police". And he does. Couldn't believe it. read more

Had 2 tennis rackets strung at the tennis center a while back. I can't say I was super fond of the quality of the stringing job that I got back. The strings sat a little too loose for my taste and it took about 2 weeks of hitting with the rackets to manually make the tension more tight. It also ended up kind of expensive for teenagers to string them. I'm not sure I'd go back. But the courts are really nice here (probably because they are pay for time courts), and they have a good demo program, although not the best selection of rackets. read more

Sure you have to pay for courts, but you don't have to worry about showing up and there's no courts available. With busy lives, time is worth a lot more than a few dollars an hour! The courts are in excellent condition and things that are broken through wear and tear (net, center strap, etc) don't stay broken for very long as the staff is very active in keeping the courts in great shape. I've not taken any classes from the HS kids, but all the other options (drop in clinics, semi-private and private lessons) are all very good and offered by certified pros. I would agree that a good "absolute beginner", i.e "this is how you hold a racket and this is called a forehand" class is probably lacking... Having played at several facilities in the bay area, these courts are in about as good a condition as they come. I would agree with Joe on the strings...whoever can figure out how to make strings tighter as it's used could make a lot of $$$ :) read more

The coach here is very bad. But don't let other coaches come in. Even if you pay $9, you won't be allowed to practice with these children. This is why American tennis is falling behind. The course is very good, but this rule is very bad. The monopoly of the coach here has made American tennis shameful. read more

Great place to go if you are not into paying club dues. They do have a variety of instructors, some are high-school kids but they also have USPTA and PTR certified pros. You will find all levels of players there from beginners to advanced. The pro shop is Wilson only, BTW. read more

Let me get the good thing out of the way. Courts are good and well maintained. Cons] Very incompetent staff and unreliable. I must have booked ball machine here almost 8 to 10 times out of which 4 to 5 times I wasn't given one. Reason: Sorry there was double booking. Some one came earlier and took it. It was a mistake by our staff.... I shall inform them. They compensate by giving a 1-1/2 hr tennis coupon and expect us to feel better. Secondly, the ball machine is very expensive to rent as compared to sunnyvale tennis center. It is $25 for 1 hr where as at sunnyvale it is $10 for 45mins. And they have a dedicated court for the ball machine with a better ball picker. If I could, I would stick to sunnyvale tennis center. read more

I'm 10 years old and am competing in the junior tournament circuit. I have played three tournaments at this place, and the last one I just played was not particularly my favorite. It was called the Mission Peak Junior Novice at the Fremont Tennis Center. On Saturday, I played three matches in a row. The good thing was that they sold water at that place. I ran out of water during my noontime match, which lasted 1 1/2 hours. I was pooped. By the time I got out, I had to report my scores, check in immediately for my next match, buy a bottle of water, and had to run to my next match. I really think that this place can schedule their matches a little better. Overall, my experience wasn't that great, but it didn't end up in a total disaster. read more

The quality of lessons at fremont tennis center is bad. The coaches do not know how to hit a tennis ball themselves, and of course would mislead the students into doing wrong things. We found other coaches else where and occasionally came back to play at Fremont Tennis Center. This becomes a surprise to the coaches, and the guy was really worried we would tell his other students to quit, he tried everything possible to drive us away from the courts. Other players have had similar experiences. It turned out the coaches were contracted with FTC, and they can not attract students by the virtual of their lessons. This is too bad. You should definitely visit other alternative lessons and just figure out yourself. Whether you are an adult student or a junior, definitely stay away from the Fremont Tennis Center lessons. They will ruin your future tennis ability. read more

The city of Fremont needs to wake and take note of this failing establishment. The residents of Fremont are paying for this facility and they deserve better. Sadly all the good coaches or coaching teams have been scare off by a poor management team there. So it's an endless cycle of inexperience young college students. The city should look to other bayarea city tennis centers, such as Lifetime Tennis (Sunnyvale Tennis Center) as a model for professional management and city tennis youth programs. You're better off paying $100/month and going to Mission Hills Tennis Club (about 2 miles away from the tennis center) where there is one of the best youth tennis programs in the bayarea and coaches that are real professionals read more

Until today, I was a frequent & a happy customer at Fremont Tennis Center. I didn't only play there myself, but also frequently set up practice matches for my nine year old son, a serious player of the game, and his competitors and friends. We also regularly participated in tournaments offered at this venue. Today at 4:30 pm, a friend of mine scheduled another practice match for his 10 year old daughter and my son. My friend also took along with him his 13 year old daughter who also wanted to practice. For practice, they brought along with them a small tennis ball basket filled with tennis balls. When my friend registered and paid for the court at the pro shop, he was told by the employee in charge at the pro shop named Nicolas Grutch that tennis ball baskets are not allowed in the courts as this is one of their indications that an unauthorized tennis lesson is being conducted. (Tennis lessons at Fremont Tennis Center are not allowed unless given by an authorized tennis professional.) While our children were warming up, I was walking towards the court from the rest room and walked alongside court number three where an authorized tennis professional was teaching a student. As I was walking, I got my wallet out and took out $5 to pay my friend for my part of the court fee. When I got to our tennis court, I handed the money to him which he refused to take. All these were apparently noticed by the tennis professional and he reported these to Nicolas Grutch who then approached us to tell us that someone reported me handing cash to my friend. Then he said that by doing that and with my friend having a small tennis ball basket with him, that technically proves that he is giving an unauthorized lesson (to our own children). He then ordered us to leave the court and asked us to get our refund at the pro shop. We tried to reason out with him and asked him to get the complaining tennis professional so that we could talk to him and explain to him that my friend is not a tennis pro and that we are parents to these kids and that the money I was handing my friend was for my part of the court fee. When he refused to get the tennis professional I asked him if he believed my explanation to him and he said no. I asked him if he was then saying that we were lying. He bluntly said yes. I asked for his supervisor and he basically indicated that he is the one calling the shots in the Center and there was no one else to talk to. This incident was sad and disturbing. Imagine two parents taking their kids for a fun time of tennis in a public tennis court and all of a sudden being falsely accused and thrown out of the courts by an unreasonable employee and a selfish tennis professional. This tennis professional was not just selfish but was also such a coward that he would not even give his name to us. I believe that the employees at Fremont Tennis Center are arbitrarily making and enforcing unreasonable rules just to protect their tennis professionals at the expense of regular families who want to enjoy the public facility. As I promised Mr. Grutch, I will actively file a complaint to the city to correct these arbitrary rules and to prevent employees from behaving the way he did. read more

Level of coaching has gone down to a level that kids are not interested to come there . Everyday new coach , college students , unexperienced coach are taking classes . It was good when my son started and after 1 year also I didn't see not much progress because of coaching staff . Some days whole 1 hour not much practice . First of all I've been to a few tennis clubs/centers and FTC is at the top. Some of the places were Harbor Bay in Alameda, Hidden Hills in Hayward, In-Shape sports club, Bay-o-Vista in San Leandro and Clubsport. The court quality at FTC is just excellent, you would think they clean the courts every hour, the clinic program is probably one of the best i've been too, not because the instructors are good but also because they make trainings/practice fun, even though it can be intense. So if you're ever looking for a nice place to hit at or some tennis lessons/training, go to FTC you won't be disappointed read more

THE TENNIS CENTER IS THE SHIT!!!!!!!! Love going there... its a great place to play tennis. Some tennis centers do not have the priveledge of having good/ high quality high school/ college tennis players around, but the Fremont Tennis Center certaintly offers that. Plus the people that work there are fun and extremely easy to get along with, like my buddy Joe Grech (squid). Anyways this is a great place to learn, socialize, or compete I have grown up in this place and I am going to be very sad that I am leaving it behind since I am moving to Boston, but the Fremont Tennis Center will always be in my heart. And by the way complete agree with J. G on Jessica C. comment strings do not get tighter as time goes by they become looser. Plus what probably happened is she chose a tension that she didn't actually end up liking or the machine strung the string below the tension and therefore felt less tight. But slight differences in stringing tensions are hard to perceive and can only be critical to players who play professionally. So Jessica C. i do not think it was the tennis center's fault for your stringing dilemma.... Besides that the FTC IS THE PLACE TO BE!!!! read more
