A few years later Dr. Dawson moved to a practice in Huntington, W. Va. and we followed him there. Now he has his own practice in Chesapeake, Ohio and we have already booked our follow-up appointments with him there. He is a excellent dentist and very gentle. If he has to numb your tooth he first numbs the gum before he injects the Novocaine. Worth the trip from St. Albans where we live to have him be our dentist.

I received a call from the office that they have to cancel my appointment because the doctor is out sick, which I completely understand. Bummer, but it happens. During the call to reschedule I was told that the hygienist has actually decided that the previous amount I was quoted was incorrect- instead of $150 it was going to be over $400 for my first appointment! Again, as a former dental assistant I understand, some times different treatment is necessary. However I was told I would need a full mouth debridement (which is usually reserved for people who have not had a cleaning in years) and xrays again- even though I have had routine dental care, cleanings and had recent xrays sent over from my last office. In fact my last dentist told me my teeth were beautiful! I wanted to support a local office however treatment like this seems shady, profit driven and inconsiderate. I realize we are all just trying to do our jobs, but now I have missed a day of work for no reason and am on the hunt for a new dental office. This one just doesn't seem to care about making dental care affordable or accessible for the younger, uninsured working crowd.

I have my son go here even paying full price when I worked only to be reimbursed partly because they are out-of-network. I feel they are that good. My son was trying contacts and needed good care, he, like myself, are in the high numbers. I even went back when another place 'over' prescribed my contacts! I lost most near vision, but could see far off, but I work inside. They picked up on this before I could mention it was a problem and got a prescription that suited my needs! And waiting over 30 min?? Geez, they have to work paperwork out! Most places that is status quo! They have always done well over the years, only delays are when my coverage changed and they needed to get guidance on cost to be honest with me.

I took a long time to marinade and have a basis for comparison before writing this review. I was a…read morepatient of Dr. Holmes for Invisalign. Positives: Dr. Holmes and his staff are incredibly friendly and personable, and the office is very efficiently run. It was very rare to be waiting after your appointment time. Dr. Holmes seems to be on the cutting edge of treatments, and a perfectionist, which can be very good in the profession. Negatives: The characteristics just mentioned didn't work well with me. Even though he was very nice I felt like he was doing what he wanted with my treatment regardless off my feelings. Examples: He put the extra ridges on the Invisalign (for when treatment gets advanced and it's hard to keep the Invisilign on and you might need to put "glue" tabs on your teeth that the Invisilign goes over) on the two teeth next to my front ones - making them VERY visible! The purpose of Invisilign is to barely see it! Others I knew with Invisilign had these on their back or side teeth. When I asked about it Dr. Holmes said it was best for the treatment- that very well may be, but not best for me. I'm in in my 30s not a middle schooler, and my job is outside sales. Then he wanted to treat my gums with a procedure involving putting bolts in my gums and using rubber bands which he was very excited about so I agreed. He assured me the rubber bands and bolts wouldn't be visible. NOPE. The bolts weren't but the bands were on my front teeth - again I'm not a middle schooler. When these things happened and I'd express my anxiety/unwillingness it's like he and the staff became motivational speakers - "oh you can barely see them", "It'll be so good for you". Thanks all, but I DON'T WANT THIS. Treatment became so long and tedious with all these "extras" that I threw in the towel a little over a year in - when he initially said I'd be done in a year! Yes my top teeth, gums and bite looked great. But my bottom teeth went back to crooked and I had to re-do treatment a couple years later. Not saying this wasn't partially my fault for discontinuing treatment early, but "early" was more than the time I was told I'd be in treatment total. I will note that he did a laser procedure on my gums that looked fabulous! But again I felt this could've been done without months of bolts and rubber bands. Maybe not but I feel I wasn't educated properly on my options and he wanted to "try out" the bolt/band procedure to see it's results beforehand causing me more social discomfort than necessary. Overall I think Dr. Holmes is very talented in his profession. I also think he meant well and runs a great business. My experience just wasn't what I wanted/needed and for 3k+ I feel it should've been.

The staff has been wonderful and always making sure that my daughter understands the process and making sure she was comfortable. She's always excited for her appointments!
