We learned that you can pick your own caterer and provide your own booze which can go along way in both cost and allowing you to truly customize your special event. This was one of the top contenders for our wedding day. What ended up keeping us from booking is that we wanted to have a November wedding and this venue is perfect for outdoor weddings so it just was too much of a gamble with the crazy Ohio weather. The staff was excellent -- always checking in to see if we needed anything. According to Charlotte, one of the venue coordinators, they can seat about 150 max. The wedding I attended had a little under 100 guests, with plenty of room to move about with the dance floor set up in the front of the venue. For the ceremony: There is a beautiful outdoor terrace overlooking a pond w/ a fountain. Plenty of seating with a small aisle for the bridal party to walk down. For the reception: There is plenty of room! Tons of natural lighting. A concession stand type window bar area and an alcove to set up the food and cake tables. I was very impressed with this venue. Beautiful inside and out, with many older details but renovated to include modern touches and be a bit more usable. Staff were great throughout. Not very accessible if you have mobility issues so be aware. Us older folks had trouble with the stairs, especially the back "servant's" stairs. But it all worked out. First floor is the most ornate and authentic. Second floor is offices and meeting rooms, third floor is an event space. Street parking (free after 6 on a Saturday) plus a garage right across Town.

The property has a fascinating history. Once the event home of one of the city's former leaders, the larger compound has since been divided into residential townhomes, while the main parlor house has been preserved for a marketing firm upstairs and event use when the space is available. And somehow, what started as more of a weekend rental opportunity has turned into one of the area's up-and-coming event spaces--without losing the charm that made it special in the first place. That is the part I hope they protect. The team behind the venue comes from an artistic background, and you can feel it. They're relatively new to the venue-contracting side of the business, but instead of getting that corporate, transactional event-venue energy, you get something much better: People who genuinely want to get your big day right. I chose Topiary Mansion for our jazz brunch wedding ceremony, and I could not have been happier with the decision. The ladies accommodated multiple walkthroughs, worked directly with my wedding coordinator and caterer, and were willing to talk through how we could actually use the space rather than simply handing us a floor plan and saying, "Good luck." That collaboration mattered. Because once you start planning a wedding, you quickly realize that your venue isn't just where you put the chairs. It's the foundation that every other vendor has to work around. And Topiary Mansion understood that. In fact, I liked the team so much that I started introducing every vendor I met to them. I encouraged those vendors to bring Lori and Tammy into the wedding and event-planning community by inviting them to professional association meetings, because I want this venue to succeed without losing what makes it special. They don't need to become some giant corporate event factory. Quite frankly, I don't want that. I want them to stay small, quaint, warm, artistic, and friendly while building a network around themselves that can help them navigate the growing popularity. It's a historical home that has tons of trails at the back and other facilities for recreation. Along with housing Parks and Rec, it is also a preschool! I didn't get to see the whole of the inside but it's cool to see a historic home that is maintained very well for multipurpose use. They even do chair yoga classes in here!
