Schwartz's Deli was my victory meal for walking 100k steps in a day in Montreal. What better…read morenightcap? We were met with a short line at 11:30pm, when one of the locals came up to us and said "Once you have this, you'll never want to go to Katz's again. Trust me." I was confused how he knew we were from NY, but then I realized my big homie was wearing a Karl Anthony Towns Knicks jersey. We got our hands on the smoked meats sandwiches, and went to eat them on a bench nearby. While this thing was good, and the perfect meal to combat my major calorie deficit, it's just not Katz's. People who say this is better than Katz's have just simply never had Katz's. I honestly would've enjoyed it, and not even thought about the comparison, if bro in line didn't act like this was about to change my life. Comparison truly is a thief of joy. My Pastrami power rankings go Katz's, Langer's in LA, and Schwartz's at my #3. IG @johnny.novo Tiktok @jnov__ Substack @johnnynovo

Amazing food, service , and ambiance…read more A visit to Montreal isn't complete without a stop at Schwartz's Deli. The smoked meat sandwich absolutely lived up to the hype. The meat was incredibly tender, juicy, and packed with flavor, piled high between fresh rye bread with just the right amount of mustard. The atmosphere is classic, authentic, and full of history. Even with the line outside, the service was efficient and friendly, and the food was worth every minute of the wait. The pickle and fries were the perfect sides to complement the rich smoked meat. You can tell why this place has become a Montreal institution. Simple menu, legendary food, and an experience that feels uniquely local. I'll definitely be back the next time I'm in Montreal.

I wasn't impressed with the food, but the overall experience adds another star. It's a cafe,…read moregourmet grocery, flower shop, greenhouse and artisans boutique all under one roof. The cafe menu is limited mostly to sandwiches, quiches, salads, and breakfast pastries. I got the Jambon Bio: ham, cheddar, mesclun greens and dijon on a baguette. The amount of ham was really pitiful, I think 2 slices. The greens were boring, only lettuce. We did like the dijon mustard. The baguette was overwhelming for the amount of filling and not the tastiest. Rather disappointing and I thought pretty expensive at $17 Canadian. But it came with soup and salad (no way to order just the sandwich). We liked the soup though, a pureed squash with apple, assertively peppered. Salad? Lol no it was 3 cucumber slices each with a 1/2 cherry tomato on top! In retrospect I should have got one of the hot sandwiches, such as the Croque Monsieur, which looked good on another diner's plate. I liked the selection of soft drinks, and found an interesting fruity soda from a local company. While waiting for our food (order at the counter and they deliver it to the table) and after finishing we perused the grocery. An amazing assortment of gourmet items. I bought two hot sauces that I can't wait to try (didn't get the one made from ants though!) and some tinned smoked fish. Many of the items seemed insanely expensive though. The beer selection was truly impressive; wish I liked beer. Then on to the greenhouse. An amazing variety of plants of all kinds: cactus, ferns, carnivorous, much more. We just looked because we couldn't take them back to the USA, but some were hard to resist.

A roadside stop that is obviously on the travel groups list because the tour buses do stop here. We…read moregot in just as one was parking, and quickly got our order in. What a cool spot. Order at the counter, take a table number and food will be delivered. Several spots to eat but we chose the greenhouse and it gave you the picnic feel! After lunch, we wandered the shop, and found so many treats to take home. We found this on accident and we hope you stop in if you are traveling through !!! It will be a joy to visit - and the barista is amazing! The food was fresh, large portions, and delicious.

Simple is better! Local is better! Homemade is better!…read more Rosalie (who's birthday adorns the name of this establishment in Villeray) always dreamt of opening a local sandwich shop, where everything is from scratch, including the country-style or white ciabatta buns which serves as vessels for "Végé Pâté", ham, turkey or home roasted pork sandwiches. And that she did. Open on weekdays, the takeout only counter is open from 11 until they sell out (~2pm), Rosalie will great you with the biggest smile, a genuine "Bonjour", and instantly, you are welcomed into her home like a family member or long time friend! Looking around, you will see many nostalgic memorabilia such as signs, photos, books, dolls, lego builds, bread boxes, tin cans... essentially a sneak peak into her world. As whimsical as this may appear, lies a powerful soul, and experienced lady entrepreneur who did her full professional baking schooling, worked in a flour mill to better understand her products, as well as worked in an artisanal bakery to learn the trade, and now bakes her own bread but also supplies them to Marie-Fleur St-Pierre's famous restaurants: Tapeo and Mesón! Heartwarming, unpretentious, fast, homemade, are words that kept whirling in my head with each bite of the roast pork sandwich, lined with just the right amount of meat, mayonnaise, arugula and salad. Next time, I'll have to treat myself to her brownies, cakes and cookies.
