The cabin is one of three nestled in the middle of a beautiful golf course surrounded by towering pine trees and lush, green landscape. Our cabin had that rustic charm, was spacious, yet cozy. When I say "rustic", the feel is rustic, but this is a newer built cabin with modern amenities. Full kitchen with new appliances, washer/dryer, cozy (again!) beds, plush towels. Yes! There is wifi so you can post all the gorgeous pics you take of the area onto your favorite social media! We encountered the cutest deer roaming around the property. The Living room area is appointed with the big comfy couch and chairs that a family could just sink into and hang out for hours. There is satellite TV as well in the bedrooms and living room areas. There is a wraparound deck that would be wonderful to hang out if the weather had been a little warmer. Rebecca, the property manager, sent our check-in packet well in advance of our arrival, and was so responsive when we had questions. The guard at the front entrance to the property was so sweet, she'd welcome us each time we arrived and even wrote down several surrounding sites for us to visit. Andrew, at the information center, was also really helpful, telling us about the property and even stopping by our cabin when we couldn't figure how to lock the French doors. There are only 3 cabins on this property because they are meant to showcase the home sites that can be built in Grizzly Ranch. It's a true gem if you are looking for a peaceful retreat in the mountains.

Many people are not aware, but I am a good helper of pilots. My friend Paul is a pilot and…read moresometimes I go with him for short rides, although I am sometimes afraid we will die, and Paul has to calm me down. But he says I am a good helper anyway. I point out things to him, such as mountains and towers and roads. This airport is very far from anything. One time we went here to try out a plane he wanted to buy, a small one. We flied it from Reno. Short flight but very beautiful, the mountains and trees. When we landed , there was no person there. I don't mean not many choices for food carts, etc, I mean literally no one there! It's a very strange feeling. Paul did say something at one point on the radio with a lady before we landed, a bunch of numbers and directions. But when we landed, we parked the plane and it was just silence in all the directions. We got a ride from 4 young people with wild hair to some hotsprings a mile away. Wow. To be in the air, then naked talking to cows in under 30 minutes. What an afternoon. Thanks Paul.

About a 20-25 minute hike to "downtown" where three good restaurants are within a couple of hundred feet of each other. Before flying in, do your airport research, the weather along with your aircraft handbook so you are sure you can get in and out and are within your aircraft's capabilities. This is a high altitude airport where temperatures may send the density altitude several thousand feet higher. Not an airport for an overloaded plane. Several YouTube videos online with landings, etc. Watch afternoon weather and winds. Surrounding hills are much higher than the airport and require planning. Tops may be obscured by clouds. Get a weather briefing! Runway is in good shape, tie down area could use a little work. We flew in with a Grumman Traveler and Tiger without any problems. Not for a new or low time pilot. I once took my wife to Legoland. That was a failure. Debbie is patient as I also get seasick on the ocean, but I am confident that we can find something perfect. I have brochures galore for a nice British Columbia getaway. If you need someone who knows her stuff, you need to call Debbie. She has been on dozens - yes dozens of ships and knows the good ones and also which ones to avoid. One of the ideas I had was a river cruise through Europe. Perfect I thought I had hit the jackpot with that one. She informed me that at the time I wanted to go the rivers in Europe were so low at that point that the ships didn't move. You were driven by taxi from city to city and then stayed on the boats in drydock. I would trust nobody else to plan my cruise. She has done anniversary trips for friends and dos an amazing job. I feel I need to report all the good things she has done and I haven't even yet found something I can do. Call Debbie, you won't regret it.

The pricing was the best in town, we use another service provider as well and post Covid the cost of travel for any group has been exponential. We found the use of a 25 passenger and their 28 passenger to work just right for our group of 41. The drivers Keith, Larry and Roger were nice, friendly and responsive to working with high school students. The drive down and back were uneventful and they maintained a good pace (given any traffic issues). Our plan is to use them again and hopefully book a third 28 passenger to accommodate more students. Highly recommend.

My husband wanted to get me out of the house so we took a drive out to Pyramid Lake which is owned and home to the Paiute Indian Tribe. It was a beautiful day to admire the beauty on a lovely fall day with blue skies above. I always like to seeing the pyramid limestone sticking out of the lake, we use to camp by the stone mother, but now the area is permanently closed to the public. Also, Pyramid lake is a by way to the black rock desert when accessing burning man. When camping remember to bring your own sun shade there is no trees at the lake. You'll need to stop and purchase a permit when camping and using your motorized toys. The lake has wildlife and plants unique to the area and the lodge has great views on a sunny or breezy day. Many people have caught huge fish out of the lake. It's a world class desert lake and a fishermen's dream. It's only 30 miles northeast of Sparks, NV. If you're in town and you're looking for unique lake experience this is the lake for you.

Stayed here for an anniversary weekend with my husband. Fabulous accommodations for a golf "play…read moreand stay". There are only a handful of villas, (maybe 10?) in a very secluded area between Portola and the Graeagle area. The villas are located along the 10th fairway of The Dragon at Nakoma. The villas are stand alone buildings and I believe there are 3 different floor plans. Ours was a 2 story with the first floor consisting of a small living area with a fold out couch, flat screen tv (albeit a small one) a mini kitchen, half bath and sauna. The mini kitchen consisted of a mini fridge, sink and a stovetop with a few burners. The kitchen was stocked with enough pots, pans, plates etc to cook in the villa, however we never used it. There is a Jacuzzi outside on the deck overlooking the fairway, however there are shutters for privacy if you choose. The second floor consisted of a master suite with another small flat screen tv, super comfy bed with great linens, 2 cedar closets, and the master bath had a Jacuzzi tub, glass shower and dual sinks. There was also a balcony out of the master with a sitting area to overlook the 10th. There are fireplaces in the living, master bed and master bath, although in July with the high risk of fire we were unable to use them due to county codes. That was fine as there were record highs that weekend so they were unnecessary. The A/C did work better downstairs as the upstairs was consistently 10 degrees hotter, but the evenings are cool and I like open windows while sleeping so it really didn't affect us. The place had really cool lighting effects and walls and floor were trimmed with cedar which made the place smell great! While the villas are pretty far from civilization they are just a short walk from the clubhouse. For our day of golf we walked to the clubhouse and drove the cart back to the villa to load up our clubs. Not sure if its allowed, but we did it and it was super convenient! We also walked to the clubhouse for dinner one night and up for drinks at the bar on the second night. I didn't want the leave the area but felt like we needed to see the surrounding area. Once we left to drive into town I just kept thinking how I would rather just spend the whole weekend at Nakoma! Overall, it was a bit spendy, but worth every penny!
