I'm not sure why it's taken me 8 months to try Frenchs Forest Market since I moved to the northern beaches, but I now regret every single Sunday that has passed in that time.
This market has all the quality foodstuffs a (largely) organic market should have with very little of the meaningless tat that no one ever buys.
The produce stands were large, with excellent fruit and veg: we loaded up for the week as there were definitely deals to be had over the big grocery chains.
I had one of the best bacon and egg rolls ever, smoky and gooey and big, for $7. And I had to queue for nearly 10 minutes behind other hungry people to get it, which says something.
They had raclette. Dear, sweet deity of cheesy goodness, they had proper raclette, with potatoes and gherkins and big gobs of browning cheese scraped onto it all...
A French guys was selling saucisson and pate and foie gras. There were cheeses galore. There was salmon smoked on the spot.
Of course there were a few hippies selling healing crystals and uncooked superfood nut bars and a bit of that sort of nonsense, but all is forgiven. RACLETTE!
It was easy to get a park, too. read more
