Animal lovers and pet owners in the area are all familiar with Frenchs Forest Showground, a fixture on the pet circuit for residents. Teenage girls ride their horses all the way from Oxford Falls and Terrey Hills to ride, train and jump at the Frenchs Forest Showground. There are often competitions and general horse-days (Can you tell I'm not a horse rider?) held at the Showground on Sundays when the weather is warm, too.
However, Frenchs Forest Showground doesn't discriminate. No, siree. Despite the occasional horsey interlude, the showground is generally occupied by dogs and their owners. Most mornings from seven am through till lunch time, the Showground is filled with big dogs, small dogs, fat dogs and skinny dogs having a run around, playing with each other and being a bit social. I often take my dogs there, and am constantly surprised by the sheer number of dogs around. The biggest draw card of Frenchs Forest Showground for dog owners is the fence around the perimeter, ensuring that their precious pups can run for as far and as long as possible.. but can't escape them! Plastic bags and bins for that unpleasant moment when your dog goes to the toilet are also available to the unprepared, rookie visitor.
As well as happy dog, the Frenchs Forest Showground often breeds (geddit?) happy owners; it's a nice place to have a chat with other dog lovers, tire your dog out for the day and feel smug that although your doggy has the unfortunate tendency to bark in the night, at least it's not trying to hump every dog from here to Mona Vale. read more
