The last time I went to Venus was just after COVID. I used to do all my food and other necessary…read moreshopping and often used to take my family the takeaway for food. I also used to invite friends for some quick food. However my last experience completely changed my opinion about the store. I went with friends and I ordered lamb donor. As soon as it was placed on the table. The smell of off meat was horrendous. I asked the customer service provider who was wearing big thick glasses to replace with something else, he served me with lamb donor again saying that this is different donor. I asked him to give different food such as chicken, veg or salad except lamb donor. However not only he did not serve different food, did not refund me. I raised the issue with management and management and he could refund me and said, don't worry when I come next time, he would sort me out. What a service!!! I have informed many of my friends about this disgraceful service and will continue to do so. Only to make sure that they don't get treated this way. I have always been in support of local community and local shops although sometimes the prices are a bit expensive then chains, but definitely not support of Venus Turkish supermarket anymore.

What Rob has said basically…read more It's a big Turkish cash and carry place, that sells a wonderment of weird and wonderful food in my drab English eyes. There are more olives here than I have ever seen in my life - literally an entire aisle. There's not much fruit and veg here but there is a meat counter at the back and a myriad of lentils, beans, pickles and that kind of thing. It will definitely make your cupboard in the kitchen twice as interesting if you fill it with some of the goodies from Venus Supermarket.

You have to go look around to see what i mean but there are masses upon masses of great things in here. The staff are that lovely that they speak to you about recipes you could try and offer helpful hints and tips. I'll definitely be going back to investigate further when I'm not rushing to the theatre!

As you enter the store the decor is a fascination, with beautiful lanterns hanging overhead and a beautiful silver water globe feature in the entrance. Immediately as you go in on the left there is the fruit and veg section which offers up more exotic fruit and veg than I have ever actually seen. They had enoki mushrooms, star fruit, dragon fruit, bamboo and so much more. They had fruit that I don't even know what it is. The only description I can offer is that they reminded me of Stinky from the Moomins, only more pinkish brown than black! I'm totally going back to try them some day. As well as that they had EVERYTHING to do with traditional chinese, korean and other asian cuisines. With more noodles than you can imagine, cakes, fish, 'mochi' and so much more it is probably the most exciting place to shop for food in Leeds. I can only hope that at some point I will get to live near enough to make it my regular supermarket! My boyfriend and I have made a pact that we will go in there and put together a meal sometime and I'm going to hold him to it! A delight to shop in, but pop in just to see.

They are always well stocked and sell a wide variety of ingredients and food (in bulks if you wish). The store is colourful in decoration, glowing red with warmth. It has a fairly welcoming appearance. As well as just dried and frozen food, they offer a range of Oriental cooking equipment that you won't find at your local Tesco's! If you're looking for something different to cook, this is an ideal place to shop with friendly staff to help you and point out some suggestions. Another good thing to mention is that they have a car park on-site which is well laid out and spacious.

Liverpool is home to the oldest Chinese community in Europe and therefore has a large population and strong tradition of providing goods from the far east. Situated on the outskirts of town on the doorstep of Chinatown, the Chung Wah has been providing exotic staples to Chinese restaurants throughout Liverpool and further afiedl as well as the local community. To walk in here is like those rare shopping experiences that you have on holiday. I found myself wandering round aimlessly expecting to find cereal or bleach but coming across dried squid and brightly coloured Chinese sweets. If you enjoy cooking and experimenting with food, there are plenty of weird and wonderful here to give you something to think about in the kitchen.

It's bakery provides the pide for the cafe. The main attraction for my family though is the attached cafe, It is definitely a cafe rather than a restaurant, wherein lies Tim M's disappointment. It does say restaurant above the door, it has similar seating to Akbar's but the giveaways are the high steel counter and the illuminated takeaway style menu hanging from the ceiling. The kebabs are the most expensive thing on the menu at £5.50 each; for that you get a surprising quantity of lean, spicy meat in a Turkish pide, which is much more substantial than the bog standard pittas, three sorts of fresh salad and fries. I have to admit that they are fries not chips and obviously the American cut frozen style but this is a takeaway so that's hardly unusual. We always have the kebabs, lamb for the beloved and I, chicken for the youth. At some point I will have a pide, which seems to be a sort of Turkish pizza, with meat or cheese on pide dough. The coffee is from a bean to cup filter machine; I haven't checked if they do espresso ..... yet. There are a variety of cold drinks in a fridge; I tried a mint yogurt drink but didn't spot straight away that it was carbonated. Let's say it was interesting; sharp and mildly minty but I'd have been happier without the bubbles. The seating and tables are a cut above your average cafe, high backed, padded chairs and substantial black tables. The glass lights are very pretty too, I like it when people make an effort. The service isn't fast but very pleasant. Bear in mind that they are cooking the food as needed rather than serving precooked food or boil in the bag (like Bibis) and I like a leisurely lunch. oh and it is halal.
