I wish I could leave a positive review Fresh Thyme, especially since I have deep-rooted ties to this particular location. I fondly remember visiting Goodrich's Shop Rite with my grandparents weekly and regularly shop at Fresh Thyme myself. I love Blueowl and Ding Tea is one of the best shops in the area, unfortunately, due to a recent experience, I can no longer support these businesses. I was planning on going grocery shopping at Fresh Thyme after going to an hour long class, it was a Tuesday afternoon so there were plenty of parking spots, and an hour is not an excessive amount of time to leave your car parked. When I get back my car was towed. While I appreciate that some Fresh Thyme employees were helpful, the manager I spoke with was dismissive. He refused to tell me who might have towed my car and seemed annoyed that I wasn't aware of the towing company this particular lot uses. His lack of assistance only added to my frustration.( I do not know if he called specifically or if it was the owner of the lot the manager said he was not at liberty of saying, but either way he was rude and unhelpful) This manager also was not wearing a name tag. I had to pay $326 (not including cab fare) just to retrieve my vehicle. This experience feels particularly targeted, as I have parked here multiple times and gone to class before going shopping without incident, often in a newer model car. It seems like students, who primarily support many of these businesses, are being unfairly penalized. Additionally, I want to highlight a concern beyond the towing issue: if your car gets scratched by another driver while you're shopping, it can be incredibly challenging to locate the owner. This isn't just a student issue; it affects everyone who parks there. Save your time, car value and money and support other businesses in East Lansing who actually prioritize their customers' experiences and values your time. (Plus since they have added the self service checkout they almost never have the standard checkout open, and their bathroom frequently has no toilet paper) read more

Fresh Thyme Market is located right next to the hotel that my family and I were staying at while I was on a work trip. My schedule was very busy, so we didn't have much time for sit down meals. I had driven by the market and told my husband that it would be a great option to grab some quick lunch. It was a rainy, snowy, and miserable day so we were craving a warm food. They have premade sandwiches, salads, and soups. We each got a chicken noodle soup with crackers as well as we shared half of a sandwich and a half of a salad. They have some nice, fresh and healthy options. We also got a green juice to share. Overall, the market is fairly small with adequate offerings. They have wine and beer, no liquor. If ever in the area again, I would stop by if I needed something quick and easy. It was clean there, it didn't seem like there were a lot of people who worked there, but it's most likely because of COVID-19 and the understaffing. Parking is available out in the lot. Prices are reasonable. The chicken noodle soup was delicious! read more

They are unfortunately not following the return policy outlined by the company. Had receipt and unopened item. Was willing to accept cash or store credit but told that it could only be refunded to the card (not an option for me). Forced to keep the item. Asked if there was any other way to return it or if I could speak to a manager and was told that she was a manager and nothing could be done to rectify the situation. Will not be shopping there again unless it is rectified by the company and will be spreading this information among friends here in East Lansing (will update if this is corrected by customer service). read more

A nice health food store with many vegan options and gluten free. I was hoping for more variety of gluten free items since it's a health food store but they had about the same variety as others, just more pricey. They seem to have a little bit of everything: from regular Cheetos to organic. The reason why I give 3 star is because labeling/shelving was not clear enough, especially for someone who's looking for gluten free items. I wish they were better labeled or sectioned out. The essential oils staff is excellent, but the rest of the store is really how you do bare minimum health food. The deli meat may be natural but the styrofoam and cellophane packaging they use to pre-package the meat is the opposite mentality of healthy and sustainable living. Unfortunately, the prices are very high for many of the items and you can tell most produce is not local. I love Fresh Thyme. I realize people are nostalgic for Goodrich's, which did have a great vibe, good baked goods, and an amazing beer selection. However, their produce was always mediocre in terms of freshness and many of the other offerings were nothing special. Fresh Thyme has excellent produce and if you go on Wednesdays you get double discounts (ie: two weeks' worth of specials are valid). They have a great $6.99/lb salad bar as well as an excellent olive bar. Awesome sausages (I'm addicted to the hot Chicago) and lots of great bulk items (oils, syrups, nuts/candies, coffee, etc.). I am also a big fan of the dairy items such as the butters, cheeses, and yogurts. And finally, a grocery store with decent sushi in Lansing. It's not super cheap but it's definitely more reasonably priced than Foods for Living or Whole Foods. Service is great. Parking is a nightmare but there is clearly nothing they can do about it due to all the construction in the complex. read more

I have been shopping at this location since it first opened and have experienced nothing but poor quality products (expired, fatty, rotting - all separate occasions and items) and a lack of service to top it off. Approaching a worker with an issue is simply a waste of time since it seems that none of them have the authority to appease a customer. I can't wait for Whole Foods to open. The sandwiches here are great - both their pre-made options and made to order. The pizza too. As are their soups. The salad bar is well-stocked and the deli has plenty of other options as well. CON-High prices but I guess that is expected with many organic items. I do miss Dr. Beefs (Goodrich's butcher) sausages. (Oh what I would give for a Dr. Beefs andouille sausage!). CON-This place does make it's own sausage but it doesn't compare to Dr. Beefs. I also bought some fish out of this place once that was spoiled/rotten. The fish smell so bad once I got home and unwrapped it. I had to throw it away. I am sure they probably would have returned the rotten fish but I did it want to drive it back to return. The fish smelled so bad I am sure the worker smelled it & probably had to sell it anyway. I will never buy fish from this place again. I should have unwrapped it and smelled it before purchasing. PRO-I also bought shrimp that same day and the shrimp was perfect. PRO-Best bulk candy/grains/trail mix etc. PRO-I love the fill your own oil/vinegar station they have. I hope it's not taken away. PRO-I do love that there is a close organic store on this side of town. PRO-Amazing fresh made pizza but they did raise they prices for it which sucked horribly. They used to let you pay one price for unlimited toppings when they first opened. CON-But this place surprisingly does not have some items that Whole Foods/Better Health have so I still have to go to Whole Foods/Better Health in addition to Fresh Thyme. CON-The lines are very long at times (usually only 2-3 cashiers working even though they have more than 3 registers) but I think the friendly cashiers are moving as fast as they can. A lot of times the store has workers just walking around making sure items on the shelves are perfectly placed/not crooked instead of checking customers out/cashiering. read more

A really nice place to get good quality meats and fresh produce. Staff is friendly and very helpful. I was able to navigate well and the signage helped lead me where I needed to go. Lots of options for pre made entrees and I love the make your own sandwich bar for only $4.99. It's great. The meat department is well set up and the cuts are excellent. The meat is succulent and flavorful. I enjoy seeing the new flavors of sausages and everything I tried has been stellar. Great prices on bulk and produce all high quality. Service and hygiene sub par. Walked to open check out aisle, employee glares at us as he emptied out garbage. Wouldn't remove Garbage gloves to check us out and then abruptly left mid check out to be replaced by real cashier and continued emptying garbage bins. I love the deli section and they're salad bar. *i went there looking for a quick lunch* They have pretty fair prices in my opinion when it comes to sandwiches and fresh produce however I was disappointed by the pre cut fruit. There it a large section of organically and gluten free that I can't really speak on when it comes to prices but I didn't care for the juice selection, the pre chilled juices were a little expensive as were the larger containers of juice. I also enjoyed the bulk section, I got some pretty good candy and saw same items I wouldn't mind just having half a cup of there that might be cost effective for me. I conclusion if you liked Goodrich and your looking for a frozen entrée like hot pockets this isn't the place for you. I can see them loosing a lot of business from campus once the semesters starts. Applewood bacon from their meat counter is outstanding: 10/10. Fresh Thyme has good quality produce with great sales every week. It's probably the best store in the area for getting you more than your money's worth for fresh vegetables. The store is in a college town. They have a lot of students at the registers. I eat a lot of almonds, and Fresh Thyme carries them in bulk at a reasonable price. So I bought a pound from the bin and discovered they're slightly rancid. Not terrible, but the same flavor as peanut butter that's been around too long. You can still taste the almond flavor, but it's partly masked by the oxidized oils. The reason this is meaningful is that it suggests that they don't have a policy of checking their bulk food regularly, and discarding the contents of bins that haven't sold well. Instead, I guess they just hope somebody will eventually come by, purchase the contents without checking, which will let FT restock the bin. That's NOT how bulk nuts should be handled - nor a lot of other produce. read more

My sis & I stopped in here tonight after work, just to check out what it was like compared to the much-loved Goodrich ShopRite which it replaced last year. We did a quick walk around the outside edges of the store, and I bought a few items I shouldn't have since I was STARVING! So this is a very shallow look at the whole store, who has some very big shoes to fill after Goodrich's closed. Here's my opinion so far: *Horrible entrance/exit space. Very tiny/narrow & prone to congestion. Of course, this was only a few days after the grand opening, but if this place gets popular, that narrow entrance/exit space is gonna haunt them. *My main interest was in the meat/fish and international foods department. Goodrich always had a great selection of Prime grade meats, which Fresh Thyme does not have. We were told it was still "in the works". We never made it to any "international foods" section (if there is one) so can't comment there. Lots of farmed fish, which I won't eat. Nice prices of lobster tails, but this is prolly a lure to build customer satisfaction/dependence). Meijer's carries the same stuff, & often has sales comparable to that shown at Fresh Thyme. *The noise level is unbelievable! It's like being at a monster truck rally. Questions asked by cashiers & other staff were shouted but not audible. Same with our answers to the staff. We were shouting back & forth at the checkout counter. . Who designed this building ? They should be shot. *Meat counter not that special. No prime cuts, which is what distinguished Goodrich'. stuff. I can get the same stuff at Meijers. I did pick up a couple of items, a stuffed frozen clam at the fish counter, & a fresh sushi "tempura" roll. Both were horrible. The former was a bland mush with no clam that I could detect, and the latter was horror that seemed to think that French's Fried Onion Rings is "tempura." Yuk Since it's early days, I hope this store will improve as it gets feedback. But so far I'm not that impressed. With Whole Foods coming in, and existing stores like Horrocks, Mert's, and all the farmer's market vendors, they don't seem to offer all that much. Thyme will tell ! :-) BTW, prices on may items are super cheap now (lobster tails @ $4.99!!). But this is just a lure. read more

This store has excellent fruit and vegetable selections at a good price. They also have a great meat and seafood area. If you want gluten free foods the choices are very good. Awesome addition to the city! This grocery store has an abundance of great items. I went on opening day and navigation through the store and check-out were still super simple and quick. I also appreciated the helpful and friendly service. I feel like I'm in California when I'm in this store just because of the vibes, healthy options, and nutritious/progressive purpose. Love all products that are not available anywhere else in the Lansing/EL area. People now a days are more proactive then ever when it comes to well-being, eating habits, food choice, etc. This is exactly what we needed, and I don't foresee this place ever losing interest. As a young person, these kind of market places give me more reason to want to stay in the Lansing area. I'm so excited and happy to shop here ^_^ I still go to places like Kroger and Walmart, but I am so pleased that Fresh Thyme is now even an option! read more

Legitimately the best pizza I've had in a LONG thyme.... (pun intended) The grocery part is fantastic too. Some things are pricey but if you shop the sale items you can't beat it. Even at other *cough* Walmart/ meijer *cough* ..... they have an awesome variety and the prices are competitive. Everything is fresh as the name suggests. I'm very impressed. Still giving this place the same rating, because we got some pretty good deals on produce and meat. However, I was sad after I went here yesterday and Target today and found out I paid .20 cents extra for my favorite Kombucha. Last note, some of the employees clearly don't shower or use deodorant. I could smell the BO coming off of one in particular an entire aisle away. I couldn't even stand to be next to her; extremely off putting... The forces behind Fresh Thyme understand marketing very well and competently reach out to those seeking healthy food at decent price points, a sort of antithesis to Whole Foods strategy which seems to be to wring every dime out of customers because they offer quality goods. You can find many of the SAME goods at Fresh Thyme for a lot less. This shop offers fresh produce, choice cuts of meat, a wide selection of dairy including goat's milk, and organic housewares, body care, and baby feeding supplies. Even though it is further away than other grocers from my home, I come here about 1x a month. I'm a fan of both this market and Horrock's. Despite a lot of crossover, each has areas of specialty which the other does not. read more

Was not even 50% of what Goodrich's was... In the alcohol department only about a quarter of the selection of wines and even less of that in beer choices...forget the hard stuff. Kroger in Frandor has a better selection of everything. Goodrich's was a westside institution, they were open during the Blizzard of '78, I know because I made a beer run with a sled from East Wilson. Whenever passing through on my way to Flint, I'd stop to buy German beer and steak from the great butcher department, sadly no more . This market is probably the best place I have found around Michigan State's campus! Being the college student that I am, I'm trying to find ways to save money in the best ways possible and one way is grocery shopping. Now this market I obviously cannot do all of my grocery shopping with, but I can make sure I'm saving money on fruits, vegetables, and dairy. Meijer near campus can tend to be very expensive if you get the best produce. Here at this market you are able to get produce on sale for an amazing price. I got 5 apples for $1.75... come on now! I shop here for all of my grocery needs and they are excellent! It's a bit pricey compared to Kroger or Meijer but it's definitely worth it. The staff here care about you and answer any questions you might have. If they don't know the answer, they'll ask a manager or someone else and come back to you quick. I am in love with this place! Folks keep comparing it to Goodrich's; I'm not sure that's fair since they left but I wish we could have both. The canned/packaged goods tend more towards higher-end places so I just go elsewhere for those staples. The supplement selection is great so I can avoid Better Health store (rude and slow). They have some nice random food items for the occasional splurge. The real standout is the produce. I have saved SO much money on fruit and veggies since this place opened and am eating more healthfully as a result. Cheaper than the chain stores, and I'm a bargain hunter. Okay, this is my first yelp review! I just went today to check it out, and was fairly disappointed. Nothing special here that you can't get somewhere else in town. Meijer/Kroger have better prices on mainstream organic produce, Foods for Living for bigger selection, and other specialty foods - plus great staff, Better Health Store similar selection/much better prices on 'health food' type food. Some of their opening sales were good, but normal prices are definitely higher than elsewhere. Difficult to get in and out of, both the parking lot (probably just construction related?) and congestion in the store. Staff seemed nice, helpful. I think if you live in that area, it's probably more convenient than going elsewhere, but not worth a special drive. read more

Not a place to get staples or reasonably priced perishables. But they have a great deli and selection of some things hard to find in other area stores. The meat/poultry/fish counter is superb. We love the carne asada. It's perfect! Cheese selection could use some improvement and the wine selection definitely isn't Goodrich quality, but it's better than Kroger for specialty items. Horrocks still has the corner on wine, beer, fruits, and veggies in this town! Very helpful and friendly staff. Also, needs a larger entrance for all the traffic it has! read more
