I'm not able to go out today so I ordered from here on insta cart. They had literally none of the items that I ordered that it shows they have in stock. ***Later: yuck! There were three items that at least had some kind of reasonable replacement the shopper ended up getting me instead of what I'd had on my list and one of them was this talenti that has all these ice crystals on it and tastes horrible like freezer burned and stale. After the fees tacked on from the delivery app, this old nasty Inedible Talenti cost me like $11. I can't believe this shop would be irresponsible enough to offer delivery on a site and have it be so inaccurate. I called them up to see whether it was just the driver being lazy or the store having an outdated insta cart page, and it's the store. If I hadn't called the store though I could have unfairly assumed it was the driver and given her a low score and messed up her whole side gig. Just visited the Frandor store for the first time. Decent selection, but terrible ambiance and customer relations. Witnessed the "nutrition manager" rudely berate an older woman customer and then walk away in an absolutely inexcusable manner. Music is too loud, and the place is not very clean. It's like they go out of their way to hire mean girls that like to huddle away from customers while they make small talk and contorted faces while customers are left with no assistance on the floor. They will not break away from themselves to assist a customer and seem to resent any attempt to interrupt their small talk for customer assistance. I would appreciate the products being in the store and on the shelves when I go into the store to buy them. Especially if there is a sale going on. It would also help if the people who work in the store know there is a sale going on. I went to Frandor for Alpha Lipoic Acid. None in Frandor. No sale sign. I hate this store, but it smells better than the Kroger around the corner. The have a large variety of products specifically targeted for individuals that think current grocery packaged goods and produce are tainted with evil and harmful chemicals. This is the type of place you go where you want to make yourself feel healthier because you've drank a special concoction of juices, teas, and homeopathic potions. Overall, they do have a decent selection of products that can be difficult to find at your typical mega mart: large selection of gluten free products, nearly everything is organic, and their selection of vitamins and nutritional elixirs is impressive. Personally, I love coming here for the kombucha beer, real apple juice, and Newman O's. However, I'm a skeptic of the whole homeopathic health market, which makes me question this place. But as stated above, it smells better than the Kroger around the corner; and it has a fresher selection of nearly everything, even if more limited. read more

Updated: Sadly I went back and the milk that expired 5 days ago in my last review (now 13 days ago) was still on the shelf this week!!!! I wish I could give this place zero stars... What happened? Better health is definitely not what's been happening at this store. I used to really like this place at first. It is more convenient for me to shop here and much closer than other local health food stores... but I've noticed that lots of the products are not checked on the shelves. And it has gotten way way worse. I mean cookies, crackers, milk, etc are either close to their expiration dates or ALREADY EXPIRED!!!!! Great potential but the checkout system and cashiers make the whole experience a let down. Lines are long, cashiers don't know how to check items through the scanner or how to clear items that scanned incorrectly causing extensive wait times even when the store is almost empty. Managers let people wait in over crowded lines rather than opening another register as if it is too inconvenient for them to check out a customer. The products are good quality and expensive so why are customers that are willing to spend top dollar being treated so poorly? No wonder Whole foods does so much more business. read more

I've been to Better Health Store 3 times now. It is easier to get to than Foods for Living, and near Kroger, which is where I typically shop. The first 2 times I went to Better Health were unremarkable, not good, not bad. Today was my last time shopping at Better Health. The staff is rude. I think a Better Health Store shouldn't only promote health through food but a positive environment. I didn't experience any positive energy and was in fact, fighting negativity. Definitely the best organic/natural grocery store in town. It's cheaper than Foods for Living and also gives a 10% discount if you have a student ID. Their selection is pretty good (Foods for Living does beat them on selection), but they have most major items that I need to buy from organic/natural grocery stores. However, their produce selection leaves something to be desired, both in selection and in price. They also have a good selection of natural healthy, beauty and cleaning supplies. read more

I bought a Groupon for Better Health market recently and thought it was a great deal. The Groupon was $25 for $50 worth of groceries. Their prices are a little bit higher than big box stores since they specialize in organic items and cater to the health conscious shopper. I usually get my tea and chocolate here, as well as kombucha and dairy free alternatives. I've also tried several of their organic snacks, supplements, and essential oils. They do have a fresh salad bar, as well as a hot food bar, if you are hungry and looking for something quick and healthy. Keep your eyes peeled for the Groupon, and snag one or two to give them a try if you've never been here before! read more

Finally a place that makes a killer smoothie!!!! My girl works in the cafe/deli of Better Health Store, which is a Michigan health food market and I went there for lunch today. I had a "Little Havana" black bean and brown rice wrap with tomato, red onion, and avocado (mmm), a salad, and a multi-berry/spinach smoothie. The menu is big, the food was tasty, the staff is nice and they have an expanisve selection of organic and healthful goods in the store. Great selection of wraps, sandwiches, and soups. I just wish their salad bar was a little more expansive. read more

I like that this place is near East Lansing, and it is easier to find stuff than at Foods For Living in Meridian Twp. There are lots and lots of things to choose from if I wanted to choose much of this stuff. and I have yet to bring home any grain beetles or India moths. The thing that I hate about this place is that I am sent there by my wife, and am usually trapped at the register with one item and there are three people ahead of me with over-flowing carts. Q: Felix, can you tell us your impression of the cashiers? A: Ugh! UNfriendly, barely civil, never learned to say thank you or please. The last time I was there, I said thank you at the end of the transaction, and received icy silence in return. Does this place advertise? I've driven past it countless times on the way to Kroger or somewhere and always assumed it was a vitamins-n-steroids kind of place. Then I happened to read in City Pulse or Noise a few months ago that Better Health was opening a coffee bar and realized that it was actually a local kind of Whole Foods Market. And indeed, it does seem to be a kind of stripped-down Whole Foods, with (as Ed C has already noted) fresh and packaged organic food, plus supplements, bath products etc. But I buy local food, I go to the farmers' markets and Green River Cafe, I know a few granola-yoga people.... and I still had no idea this place was on my back step. Better Health has an awesome cafe with a lot of grass fed meat and other sugar free products that are hard to find at a traditional grocery store.The raw juices are amazing and the salad, soup, and hot food bar is my go to for lunch. The food at the Deli is five stars. It is amazing! And organic :) But, as other reviewers have noticed the staff has issues. This is the second time I've been there and nobody knows how to work the latte machine. One time I waited for 20 minutes for my order and they had no idea I ordered anything. Some of the staff knows how to use the cash register, most don't and are extremely slow. There was an extra long line at the resisters today so another worker was called up. In front of everyone he got into an argument about why he was called up. Then he couldn't figure out how to log into the register and proceeded to throw a fit about it. If the staff could be trained and competent I would consider giving it five stars. read more

Use to love eating at the cafe, then after one lunch had a terrible case of food poisoning. I called the store to let them know so that no one else would suffer like I was and they totally dismissed it. I still will purchase items in the store, but will NEVER eat anything in the cafe again. I liked going to Better Health for the organic bulk items, but, as with any health food store, you need to compare prices. For example, the same Cal-organic onions in a bag at BH were at least $2 more than at Kroger when I shopped at both places today. However, the organic virgin coconut oil at BH (not the same brands) was a better price per ounce than Kroger by about $3. Word to the wise - ALWAYS watch each item being rung up. The computer is never updated, so the price per pound is in error on at least 1-2 items every time I have gone in there. Interestingly, it always seems to be HIGHER than what it should be. I have been overcharged on every visit in the last 6 months since I started watching the items being rung up. Stop them right when you see the price per pound is ringing up wrong, otherwise, if you wait till the total is reached, you will have to wait about 15-20 minutes for a price adjustment. And think about it, if they overcharge every person all day, every day, they are making a fortune. Since this has happened to me on every visit, I rarely go to this store anymore. read more

I was in awe of her knowledge, she is also going to school to become a Naturopatic Doctor so she was sharing so many different ideas I was so amazed!! I haven't been here in years, but grabbed a quick lunch the other day. It isn't the cheapest, but the vegan chili was just as I remembered it, and their fresh salad bar had tons of options. Man, that chili is good! Great place for a healthy lunch on the go if you work in the area or are passing through. This place has the best prices in town. I'm tired of giving Jeff Bezos my money so am attempting to move on from Whole Foods. Thus far shopping here my bank account has been happy. However, I hope they improve on some pretty typical (aka crappy) Mid-MI customer service. That is the main thing that makes me miss chipper and friendly Whole Foods. The other night we were in and the young girl behind the deli never came to help us and when we finally asked if we could grab some items she gave a very unclear "I can't." We totally confused then saw upon check-out that the lights in the deli were off and it was closed. We would have totally understood if she had let us know the deli was closing but that didn't happen. An older lady at the check out once acted really annoyed when telling me I grabbed the "wrong" container at the salad bar, and the one I should have grabbed was under the salad bar. Like how was I supposed to know to check UNDER the salad bar??? Anyways, very convenient, great prices, but not sure if the staff is underpaid or could just use a Customer Service 101. read more

Every time I'm in Lansing I visit Better Health for a fresh juice and to grab some organic produce. It's the only place in the area that I know of that has the best selection of organic groceries plus a hot bar for healthy good on the go and smoothies and fresh raw juices. I recommend calling the juice bar before you head over because sometimes the hours for that part of the store are a little different than the main grocery store part. read more

I have recently visited your store (twice). I purchased 4-5 packaged deli items in your food case on my first visit. After checking out the cashier said she was out of small bags and stated that she wasn't allowed to use a large brown bag for small items or she would get in trouble with the management. As a result I clumsily carried out all of my food items. (Some were hot!) On the second trip I bought hot items at the salad bar and placed them in the cardboard contains with lids. I got up to the register and the cashier (different gal) asked that I take take the containers back to the salad bar and put the food in a plastic container. REALLY? Maybe you need to put a sign near your containers indicating which ones are used for what??? not to mention one of the packaged products I purchased (Pad Thai) clearly needed to be heated. I microwaved the Pad Thai once I returned to work and and the entire bowl melted to the point that I had to throw it away. Back to Whole Foods I go! read more

I am a regular at the cafe, the food is delightful and the staff lovely!! They probably have the largest healthy salad bar in this area with real food, not just junky food simulations. This store has a reasonable variety of fresh, bulk, and packaged non-CAFO and fair trade foods as well as a pretty good deli for a store this size, though I believe they evolved from a health supplements business, and that is still a major focus of the store. I only go here because I've moved within a mile of it and it is closer than the co-op. Nonetheless, I still choose the co-op if I have the time. Why? The staff is so rude and cold that I dread paying for my things. I have never experienced such awful customer service. This review is pretty much based on their customer service. I find the inventory itself to be fairly average. I think the deli and the cafe is what sets is apart from other similar stores. The deli food is pretty good. But, about their customer service. I have visited Better Health on several occasions because it is the closest health food store to my house. I have had a bad experience each time I have visited. The cashiers are extremely rude and unhelpful. They stare at you as if you are troubling them with a question or just trying to check out. They sit and chat with each other even if you are standing there asking a question. On one occasion, I had my change just thrown at me by a cashier while she avoided all eye contact with me (for some odd reason). It is as if they are intentionally trying to be rude. After the last visit when I was appalled at the customer service I vowed to never go there again. I would rather drive across town to the much friendlier Foods For Living or East Lansing Co-op. It is pretty disappointing to not return to a place in walking distance just because of the staff. read more

WORSE ROTISSERIE CHICKEN I HAVE EVER BOUGHT..!I paid just short of $10 for a burnt, dry and way overcooked chicken... I expressed concern to the deli attendant before I bought it that the chicken looked so dark. He said it's just due to the spices that are rubbed with.. Nooo..!!
