This store is well kept. I came here for the crab legs on sale for $7.99 a pound. The employees are really friendly and helpful. There were also some good sales going on for the ciders. Overall, there was good inventory of healthy supplements. I wish it were closer to me because I would shop here more often but overall, I liked it and will be back. read more

Fresh Thyme is always clean and organized, with a wide selection of produce, grocery items, and personal care goods. I always find interesting and unique items here that just aren't sold at other local stores. I really like the store-brand items as well. My first time shopping here. Great little market. mind you, it was Monday, so many staff members were busy stocking the shelves from their weekend sales. The set-up is similar to Sprouts or Whole Foods, but not as stocked. I found the Deli Section with their Borrs Head Meat was to my liking, although, they should have fresh made Deli Sandwiches for lunch hours. I did not see areas where there was any quick lunch or dinner prepared foods other than soup. The bulk selection was plentiful, nice selection of fresh fruits and vegetables, meats and fish, Definitely, will come back and check their Health & Beauty section. read more

I used to love this place til now . You would think a big grocery like this will operate professionally. But unfortunately not. I make a reserve order one day before a pickup. My order got canceled the last minute. The Grand Rapids store manager told me the reason they canceled it because it was sold out in the morning. My order was reserved to pick up at 11 am. I was told online order never guaranteed you will get it. I don't understand why they even have order online option when they can not fulfill your order. Very disappointed it. I have only been to Fresh Thyme a few times (heh) because it's not in an area of town that I frequent. I was happy to find lots of produce but surprised when they didn't have any squash or zucchini. I got some fresh juice which was pricey but a fun treat. The aisles are very narrow and the store is definitely still busy, despite being open for almost a year now I think. I went during the week around 11:30 and the lines at the checkouts were getting really long by the time I was trying to leave. There were only 2 or 3 checkout lanes open at the time. I like the branding of this store but I prefer to visit Horrocks or even Meijer for produce. I was pretty surprised by the total of my cart that was full of fresh fruit, veggies and some pantry items - only around $30 for plenty of items to make lots of meals. I will say that the Fresh Thyme brand organic chicken broth is TERRIBLE, don't even bother. It literally tastes like water. :( Overall this is a nice addition to the area and a good place to shop, especially if you like bulk bin items, grinding your own nut butters, etc. Otherwise, D&W, Meijer, and Horrocks all have pretty much the same items. Also, the parking lot is not engineered well and was a huge pain to get in and out of. read more

My go to supermarket! Comparable to Whole Foods back home, but much better prices. I especially love their deals on Tilapia ($2.99 this week) , chicken thigh, and their ground turkey. Their produce is always fresh and you have a variety of organic/conventional options. Also, you can't go wrong with fresh nuts, organic beans, and plantain chips( my favorite). When I discovered they sell Borris Head, I was felt saved. I'm used to Borris Head from back home in Miami so I was very pleased to see Fresh Thyme offers this. I've never had a bad experience here. I want to love this place I really do, but I just don't have good luck here. It seems like whatever I come in for, they are out of or what they have isn't what they advertised. Yes occasionally the advertised products are here and they are well priced but over all I generally leave feeling frustrated. My latest experience, for instance they advertised fruit pies $2.99. (insert beautiful picture of top and bottom crust apple pie) Since I was taking dinner to a family friend who just had a baby I thought dessert would be nice so I made a special trip (Shopping here is never really on my shopping loop so all trips here have been out of the way effort) What did they have for me..pumpkin, pecan and sweet potato. Not exactly the fruit pies I was looking for and definitely not the ones pictured and advertised. "Sorry" The time before that once again the ad featured a wine I had been searching for, but after scouring the wines I'm told that particular one isn't carried but here is one "very close" by the same maker. YES!!! So so happy that Fresh Thyme is in Grand Rapids. I have been to other locations of this story when I lived in California and have absolutely missed it! I will say, that I am someone that will go to different stores for different items, but I think this store does a better job than others at having a HUGE variety and I could, if I had to, but fine with doing all of my shopping at this store...which says a lot ha! They have a wide variety of multiple different options of products for different dietary needs as well as those that don't have to be as picky. They have an extensive bread selection, produce, meat, frozen department, juices, fresh juices, home care, and body care. And one of the best parts about this place is the EXTENSIVE bulk selection - from grains, to granola, to candy, to chocolate, to snacks, to oatmeal...they have rows of bulk! A great coffee selection and grind your own peanut butter, which are both near and dear to my heart! I have found this place to always be clean and seems in order with the shelves always stocked! This is a good store to stop into if you just need an ingredient or two for dinner. Also, they have a ton of options for special diets (gluten free, dairy free, etc, etc). It does tend to be more expensive here, unless you are shopping for produce. For some reason their produce prices are really low, which I love! Ummmmm...wow. just WOW! I went in for a few items, and ended up looking for a few things I normally get at larger retail grocery stores. My family has dietary restrictions (I am gluten free and my daughter is dairy free). I was pleasantly surprised to note that the selection of specialty items was not only abundane, but also priced LOWER than larger grocers!!! The cheese selection is also great, and the deli counter is off the hook. My kiddos were loving the bulk food section, and I liked that they could make a quick selection and we could pick small amounts for them to eat. The cut pineapple was fresh, and cheaper than Meijer. Their wine selection is also amazing (look low for cheaper wines). This is turning into one of my favorite places to shop. The only complaint we had were the longer check out lines, but we are going to assume it is because the store is new, and these will get better as the newness wears off. read more

I can't express enough how disappointed I am for what they've been doing recently with the self check out and absolutely no employee interaction. This is insane for a small grocery store like Fresh Thyme to completely have this run and operated by customers. Not to mention all of the machines malfunction multiple times while you're using them and they have to continually walk over to you and help you. I love Fresh Thyme - it's my go-to place for groceries! Their sale items are almost always the cheapest price around and always fresh and in season. Wednesdays are the day to go as both week's sales apply. Make sure to go early though or else the popular sale items may go out of stock! (Yes I'm looking at you $1.99 butter!) Even with the large influx of people on Wednesdays the cashiers are super speedy and wait time is much shorter than other similar grocery stores. They have a great bulk section as well as their olive oil, coffee and freshly ground nuts selections. They have a large selection of cheese, beer and wine as well along with different sodas you generally won't be able to find in other stores. Shopping with a kid? Have them look for the little red tractor while you shop. Tell the cashier at checkout where it is and you'll get a salt water taffy of your choice! All of the other reviews for Fresh Thyme were so helpful to me before I visited. As other reviewers have mentioned, Fresh Thyme closely resembles Sprouts, Whole Foods, and Trader Joes. I've been looking for a good source for bulk foods to help reduce my packaging consumption and also to buy certain items like grains, dried beans, and nuts in custom quantities. I'll get the bad news out of the way first. Fresh Thyme isn't going to make it on my regular grocery rotation. The location is not at all convenient to home, work, or any of my regular errand patterns. As much as I loved the bulk foods (if anyone knows of other Grand Rapids stores that offer this, please send me a note!), that's just not enough to make the significant detour worth it for me. So here's the deal for those of you who might be closer to Fresh Thyme. There are some very good prices on certain items. I bought a bag of delicious tangerines for 99 cents! The produce generally looked good and was priced well. 100% grassfed ground beef was less than $4 per pound! That price is much lower than my regular butcher, where the beef is more local but not grassfed. Cue my internal dilemma about which is a better choice. On to the booze or "hops and grapes" as Fresh Thyme calls it. Before reading reviews, I had high hopes for this department. Upon reading other reviews, I proceeded with caution. I wasn't looking for beer, so I quickly perused the wine. The selection was smaller than a Sprouts store I've visited, and also smaller than Trader Joes. I was looking for boxed wine and Fresh Thyme delivered. They stock Botabox, which is one of my preferred brands and the sale price was competitive to Meijer's sale price for the same item (either the same or within $1). Trader Joes is the better option for boxed wine, as their "Block" brand is about $5 less per box and I like it just as well. As I've mentioned, I appreciated the bulk section. But you'll want to carefully check prices on these items. For example, I think flour was close to $3 per pound as compared to less than $2 for a FIVE POUND bag at Meijer. I'm not certain whether this was an apples to apples comparison, but that is a huge price difference. Bottom line: Fresh Thyme has a lot going for it, and it's probably worth checking out if the location works for you. I really like Fresh Thyme and it's definitely on my shopping circuit. I can get almost everything I need here. Great gluten-free selections and fresh produce. Sometimes the organic produce is a little scant but I have to remember that this is Michigan and that other stores here have the same limitations. This place is all about false advertising. They deliberately put signage in unseen places or have it state something that is different than the fine print. Example today: Grapes are on sale for .88 cents. Big table of them. All colors. I grabbed two big bags, red and green, get up to the front only to have them ring them up for $1.88 per pound. What? No, I picked up the organic. Well guess what, the organic were mixed in with the regular (quite literally), and the $1.88/pound sign was on the bottom below the grapes. Who looks on the floor for the sign? Three signs on the top yelling .88 cents, different priced product mixed in, and the manager has the guts to tell me I wasn't reading it properly. Maybe because your false advertising signage forced me to do so! So just a word to the wise, check, double check, and even triple check something that says it's on sale, both the sign in the store and when you get to the checkout. You'll almost certainly be glad you did!! read more

From the narrow isles, to the bulk section with coffee and olive oil, to the all natural juice bar, this place is exactly like a Whole Foods. With a down on the farm, county fair sort of feel, one meanders through Fresh Thyme's deli/bread area, meats, and juice bar to find a smattering of organic, fresh, gluten-free, nut-free, dairy-free, whatever other kind of diet you are on- free food, beauty items, and treats. Not everything is healthy per say, but it's packaged and displayed so nicely you won't care. At least I didn't care when I bought some cupcake treats from their bakery station. With plenty of pre-made items, it's a nice option to pick up something small or add a specialty item to create a different kind of meal. I must say, Fresh Thyme had a very impressive selection of herbs and vitamins- not quiet as large as Harvest Heath but given that this location is more convenient than either of the Harvest Heath stores for me, I will likely be shopping here for supplements. I like TJ's better for organic fruit and veggies and wine. And I'm still an Aldi's girl in heart (you can't beat the price for staple items), but this is a fun alternative to both. My only negative is the parking lot. There is a small lot in front and a larger side lot. Right now it's nutso because this place is new, but as time goes on and the other stores in this area go in, I can it still being hectic. Burton and Breton is a busy corner already and I can see getting in and out being a headache. Otherwise, as prices go, I'd say it's Walmart (cheapest), Aldi's, Meijer's, with Trader Joes and Fresh Thyme about the same. D&W would probably be at the high end of the grocery scale. Pretty excellent place. Came with wife to Grand Opening this morning at 5:30 AM for Grand Opening and to get the free goody bags for first 250 people. We did pick up two goody bags with a nice selection of vegan, gluten free items and were pleasantly surprised by the generosity and variety therein. The store was crowded when we got in, but we slowly made our way through nearly every inch of the store. Fresh Thyme was very clean and neatly stocked, which is of course to be expected on the first day! The place is huge and the selection is unbeatable. They have two mini aisles of bulk bins where you can get oats, nuts, seeds and snacks, including candy and dried fruit, a huge selection of juice including juice pressed fresh in house, and a giant dairy section with kefir, yogurt, organic milk and just about every milk made from a nut or seed you can imagine. There is a hearty selection of vegan cheeses and also an artisan cheese selection, in addition to a wide variety of fruits and veggies, all of which looked fresh and appetizing. They have frozen foods which include vegan and vegetarian items, including vegan pizza and breakfast burritos, which I've never seen in any grocer. Of course there were lots of snack items; several aisles of popcorn and crackers from every grain source known to man. On the other side of the store are prepared meals, like mac n cheese, mashed potatoes, pastas, and quiches. They have a huge salad bar with many selections and also an antipasto bar that looked delicious, and a wide selection of bread that was still warm and smelled amazing. If you're a meat eater, the meat counter looked terrific also. The freshest salmon I've seen for sale anywhere in Michigan and lots of cuts of steak, sausages, ect. The deli also had a large selection of meats and cheeses and huge drums of bulk liquids- aminos, balsamic vinegar, olive oil, honey, apple nectar (vegan substitute for honey) and a canola oil blend, among others. There's also a place to grind your own peanut butter. One thing that excites me in particular were the eggs- not just cage free, not just organic, but pasture raised! I still want to support local farms but it's nice to know I can get eggs here in a pinch. There's also a decent selection of personal care products that are naturally sourced and not tested on animals, like body wash, soap, shampoo, ect. and a modest selection of pet food. The only area I can see that has room for improvement is the wine. The selection is not huge and it's a bit pricey. Probably will stick to the liquor store or Trader Joes for wine. read more

"Meh." - my exact sentiment. I must preface this review by admitting I only spent 10 minutes max in Fresh Thyme today- simply stopping by to take a look at the new establishment. I have not eaten or purchased any of the bakery items or fresh juice, etc. That being said; I was pretty underwhelmed with this place. I don't appreciate "Farmers Market" as a literal part of their title- since it certainly is not. It has local produce offered just like Meijer or D&W. This store was much smaller than I anticipated and I couldn't equate it to a "Whole Foods vibe" at all. There are many organic, vegetarian/vegan and "natural" products available, 90% of which I see readily available at Harvest Health, Trader Joe's, and even Meijer. I will say that they do have a wider selection of natural/cruelty-free hygienic brands than even Harvest Health offers. JÅSÖN and Kiss My Face brands aplenty. read more

Fantastic customer service Purchased a fresh, refrigerated turkey on Black Friday. $37 for 18 pounds. I had a $40 gift card. The meat counter employee cut us a break by $1.00 per pound. I also bought two tomatoes. The total was about $42.00. I was astonished when an employee scanned her discount card that reduced the total to $35.00. So, I used the remaining to buy two FRESH-SQUEEZED orange juice bottles. Best orange juice I've had in many years. So, with the juice, two tomatoes and the pricey turkey, I ended up only paying 0.18 out-of-pocket. It's a fairly hipster-ish, liberal clientele -- a lot of organic foods. Very happy with my experience; it's a total 180-degrees from the Meijer at 28th and Kalamazoo. read more
