I dropped off my overdue book in the book slot and then we headed to the kids room so the older kiddos could do their homework. No pencils in backpacks, ugh. The air conditioning in this library is better than the air conditioning in my own house. It's very quiet inside, and staff is friendly. I needed a new library card (lost mine) and we got that situated in about 5 minutes! Printers only take silver coins, so make sure you have those on hand. There are also quite a few people facing homelessness that stay inside for long periods of time, but everything is still really quiet and peaceful. There is always a security guard at the front door.

Now being an Alumni and seeing that this library is very unique. I always had my favorite spot on the third floor buried behind books so I could concentrate and focus without being noticed by the abundance of people I know. However they now changed it into an area where you cannot study :( But this Library has loud areas, social areas and areas to study. They have a Multimedia are where you can chill and watch videos, music and do whatever that cause for media. They have a reading room which you have to be a VERY quite person to enter and I found out if you think you are a quite person the reading room will either confirm it or you will learn you are far from a quite person. They have Starbucks which doesn't take on many of the promotions from national Starbucks or any student discounts. They have events hosted like museums and artwork show casings. There is able seating and helpful Librarians to help with anything you are looking for. I enjoyed this library very much when I received my bachelors and coming back Post Masters is great to see what changed in two years!

The staff are weird and watched us like we're going to steal, although the library is full of unhoused transients, and we were just a family enjoying the library. We usually spend about 45 minutes to an hour inside just browsing around... If you have a library card you can rent up to 25 books and keep them for 3 weeks! I don't need 25 books I usually get myself one and get 3 for my son so he can read and use them for his homework. I have been paying for parking using my phone it's about 1.50 for my hour using the parking meter. There are a lot of homeless outside but they give out smiles and don't bother nobody at all but if it's your first time there it can be a little nerve wracking. The few books I have rented were brand new. I did spill a little bit of coffee on it and I told them when I tuned it on and they said it was still in great condition. My son loves the kid selection and even he gets excited to read. Don't go out and buy a book when you can rent it from out own Fresno library

The librarian read 3 books that were part of the Lunar Year genre and in between had some mini interactive song activities. Love that my daughter participated. At the end of storytime they crafted a Snake and that was definitely my 3yo favorite. It's nice that the public libraries provide these kinds of free activities for the kids. My daughter did a great job listening though at times it was a bit challenging to hear. Would love to join in another Storytime event. Plenty of free parking.

Now, all these years later, I'm using Gillis again while Fig Garden branch is renovated. I preorder all of my books and DVDs, so I had to change the location to Gillis. It was a smooth transition, and the staff has been very kind in showing me how they "do library." Fresno County libraries all have outstanding personnel. Just ask, and they are willing to help. The parking lot is small so that is one drawback.
