We were driving through Warwick, NY, this afternoon on Route 17A, and saw this large corner…read moreproperty with a sign declaring it to be Warwick House of Antiques. (Parking is around back, accessed from Orchard St. - see http://www.warwickhouseantiques.com/ for more info.) When I walked in, I was greeted by one of the owners (well, I assume she is one of the owners), who told me that the store was the entire first floor, and to enjoy looking around. She said if I had any questions, I could ask her, but she wasn't pushy and didn't hover. So I really could enjoy looking around! The first thing I noticed was an entire cabinet of Skookum Dolls, from the 1920s to 1940s. I wasn't familiar with them, but having seen the name at Warwick House of Antiques, I googled it and now I know about them. (See https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Skookum_doll if you are as curious as I am?) This shop is well organized, and all of the merchandise is labelled, so you know exactly what you are looking at. They obviously know their business. Besides the Skookum Dolls, the other things I particularly noticed were: many vintage Japanese robes, jackets, and textiles; lots of Japanese paintings and other items; paintings; bottles; vintage lead miniatures of soldiers, ice skaters, and animals; some stereo viewer slides; Murano glass; a Stangl plate; furniture (both Asian and American); an antique fire extinguisher; Shenango China Inca Ware Nestle cups and saucers; crocheted doilies; jewelry; interesting expensive pocketbooks; Japanese swords; porcelain figurines; and even a carved jade figurine. Don't expect to walk in here and get something cheap because they don't know what it is; they know exactly what they are selling, and will sell it to you for a fair price. On some of the more expensive items (such as a Ward's Lime Syrup Dispenser) they have documentation to show what the item goes for on eBay and similar sites. Warwick House of Antiques is worth a trip!

You'll need to be careful pulling in, as the slope down to the parking lot is a little narrow. Inside, you have the entire ground floor (~5 large sectioned rooms) full of various antiques, ranging from knick knacks to furniture. There is also a staircase not far from the entrance which leads to the barn loft that overlooks the whole store; the walkways up here run throughout the barn, and are also packed with various items. I especially like this place for the variety of different items (primative crafts, dolls, old toys, some pottery, etc.). I've even seen some trench art items laying around. The owners here are willing to bargain within reason (mostly on more expensive items), which is also very beneficial. Combined with the other 2 antique stores on this road alone--not to mention elsewhere by Warwick--this is a must stop and one of the best antique shops in Orange County that I've encountered.

I did a quick search and found Corwin Florist in the next town over. From the reviews they looked like they had a good reputation so I called. Colleen picked up the phone, awesome person. I explained what had happened and she told me they were busy but she thought she could fulfil the order. I felt relief at those words. Placed my order and prayed for the best. I still wanted a beautiful piece, something worthy for my sister but I felt like I'd have to settle for whatever they sent. I was out of time. However, Colleen came through, she sent a gorgeous piece and it meant everything on a sad, bleak day. I couldn't have asked for anything better. I wasn't a previous customer, I was a stranger to her. I love the Ridgewood Market!…read more This Sunday was the first time that I attended. It actually took place on Summerfield Street, which is right near my house (so I had no excuse not to attend!). So my local artisans and businesses were represented here! Not only establishments from Ridgewood (Norma's, Rudy's) but there are tons of other cool vendors from all over NYC represented here! MartiniHandmades (from whom I got an awesome terrarium and bracelet), an awesome empanada table, someone serving shrimp and grits! So many local artists, jewelry makers and thrift stores! I know that this market is awesome, because even my boyfriend, who usually does not enjoy these types of things, found several vendors, items and foods that he loved! Score! Everyone was friendly and some vendors even took credit cards! What a great way to get to meet people from your neighborhood and support local artisans! I can't wait to do all of my holiday shopping at Ridgewood Market!

It actually is a monthly event held at Gottscheer Hall; I stopped by the initial one in April. It is categorized on Yelp as a "flea market" at moment, but that is really a misnomer; while there were a few booths selling used goods it is predominantly an indoor arts & crafts fair, with some booths selling food products to boot. This might be a good place to check if you were buying gifts; the majority of the goods are likely more appealing to women than men from my judgement. One aspect I do appreciate is that the vendor pool seems to display a relatively diverse range of ages, ethnicities, and tastes and the same goes for the crowd perhaps due to advertising that is also locally-focused; it doesn't feel so much like some of the similar craft markets held in other boroughs, but has a less-pretentious, very neighborhoodly Queens vibe. It seems to, consciously or not, embody Ridgewood quite well rather than attempting to replicate an outside aesthetic in this old neighborhood. Hopefully it becomes even more diverse and representative of the neighborhood as the event evolves. The best part is seeing so many people at Gottscheer Hall for a public event during daytime hours, as well as being able to get eggs and other brunchtime foods they don't normally serve.
