I love the Ridgewood Market! This Sunday was the first time that I attended. It actually took place on Summerfield Street, which is right near my house (so I had no excuse not to attend!). So my local artisans and businesses were represented here! Not only establishments from Ridgewood (Norma's, Rudy's) but there are tons of other cool vendors from all over NYC represented here! MartiniHandmades (from whom I got an awesome terrarium and bracelet), an awesome empanada table, someone serving shrimp and grits! So many local artists, jewelry makers and thrift stores! I know that this market is awesome, because even my boyfriend, who usually does not enjoy these types of things, found several vendors, items and foods that he loved! Score! Everyone was friendly and some vendors even took credit cards! What a great way to get to meet people from your neighborhood and support local artisans! I can't wait to do all of my holiday shopping at Ridgewood Market! read more

I guess I'll review this since it is on here, but it is really a recurrent event rather than a "place". It actually is a monthly event held at Gottscheer Hall; I stopped by the initial one in April. It is categorized on Yelp as a "flea market" at moment, but that is really a misnomer; while there were a few booths selling used goods it is predominantly an indoor arts & crafts fair, with some booths selling food products to boot. This might be a good place to check if you were buying gifts; the majority of the goods are likely more appealing to women than men from my judgement. One aspect I do appreciate is that the vendor pool seems to display a relatively diverse range of ages, ethnicities, and tastes and the same goes for the crowd perhaps due to advertising that is also locally-focused; it doesn't feel so much like some of the similar craft markets held in other boroughs, but has a less-pretentious, very neighborhoodly Queens vibe. It seems to, consciously or not, embody Ridgewood quite well rather than attempting to replicate an outside aesthetic in this old neighborhood. Hopefully it becomes even more diverse and representative of the neighborhood as the event evolves. The best part is seeing so many people at Gottscheer Hall for a public event during daytime hours, as well as being able to get eggs and other brunchtime foods they don't normally serve. read more

I'm reviewing the Ridgewood Market as a vendor. I've participated in several of the Ridgewood Markets at both Gottscheer Hall and the Greater Ridgewood Council. It's been such an amazing experience for many reasons. First, it's a great way to get involved and meet other creative people on a local basis. I'm born and raised in Queens and never have I met so many other creative people in my area before. The organizer is so sweet, and works her butt off to organize these events out of her own passion and love for the community and the arts. It's been a great way to meet others and share my art with locals. Second reason why it's great...it's very affordable compared to many of the other markets in the NYC area. I'm saying this for both vendors and shoppers. It's a great way to get introduced to Artisan Markets whether you plan to sell or buy. Third, it's a great way to find out about new local eateries, since many of the vendors represent local restaurants. I found out about Bunker through the Ridgewood Market and have been hooked! The only reason I'm giving it four stars out of five is because it's a bit hard to predict what the crowd will be like. It's a toss up on whether it will be totally crowded or a bit slow, but I think that goes for all markets. Overall, I've had a blast participating, and plan to do more in the future! read more

Im so happy we have the ridgewood market. Its not pretentious like some other little markets. Cute artys stuff, nice handmade jewelry, the best local honey ive ever had, paper crafters, art, bags, goodies, etc. Some higher priced, others budget friendly. Ive sold here and i go as a customer frequently. Never ate at the restaurant part but i love walking and shopping there. The organizer is fair and a sweetheart. They have day and night ones, one is coming up soon. Dont be afraid to drop by its a nice place nice vendors. Family friendly for sure. But if u go, dont leave without trying the honey. Ridgewood Market holds the best and brightest independent vendors the area has to offer. My favorites are: Hand Pie NYC--they make DELICIOUS empanada-size pies with savory and sweet fillings. My favorites (so far) are birthday cake and apple french toast. Killer Greens-- all vegan faire. Their maple-glazed tofu is to die for! Rue 78 Vintage-- shockingly inexpensive vintage clothing, accessories, and housewares. Some other awesome neighborhood businesses are represented here as well, like Norma's Cafe and Gotham Thrift. Every month there is something new and exciting to discover, without breaking the bank. This is one of the few flea-market type events that definitely is not a waste of a trip. read more

Love this event so much! Never has there ever been a more wonderful gathering of talented local artists and businesses than at this market. As a vendor, I am so pleased to have worked (and continue to do so) with the organizers of this local event. They put their heart and soul into it and into promoting locals that do just the same into their work. So it's only right that they try to get as many as they can into one location. As a shopper, I love finding new and unusual things so I know that it takes time, effort and money to get what every vendor as to offer. I appreciate getting to know them and see what new and cool things they brought. I live in the Bronx so it's a long commute for me to get all the way to Ridgewood but it's worth the travel to meet new people and gain new experiences. read more

For the first time I went to this market in September and had a GREAT TIME. so many talented artists. I left with bags full of things (shh dont tell my husband). The best tables (in my opinion) were Double J Crochet. What an amazing array of items, from baby character hats, to womans boot cuffs. Great prices and the creator was crocheting right in front of your eyes. My second favorite was Cookies Ma-Me. one word DELICIOUS!!!! I got quite a few cookies from her and I cant say enough how good they were, I even placed an order for some custom ones for my sons birthday. Absolutely, positively awful. My friend heard about it and brought me here and we cringed as soon as we entered. BEWARE, is all I can say. The place looks like a 1970's basement and smells terrible. They have food and cake sitting around all day and the flies were everywhere. Most of the items they sell are used and I cannot understand how people love it. The most annoying part of the little time we spent there was the pink headed girl running around with her camera and very annoying voice. I think she is the owner of the restaurant. I've been attending the Ridgewood Market since it's incarnation when it was on Summerfield. I think I've only missed one market in 3 years. Gottscheer Hall is a great place to hold the market. The majority of the vendors here lately are either sweet treats or arts & crafts items. I like the new edition of a D.J. playing all different genres of music. The place gets extremely crowded at times. Especially when there's a night market. So expect to be shoved around, have kids running into you and annoying Hipsters standing and chatting the the middle of the aisles. My sole purpose in going here every month is to visit Wilk Apiary. The best honey around! Locally harvested. So many different varieties/flavors. The flavored honey sticks are my favorite! They sell jars of bee pollen that's great in yogurt! They have honey infused with a habanero pepper inside. They also now make all different kinds of infusions. Mojito honey with lime and mint!! New favorite!!! They even have a reward card. You punch it every time you buy a jar and with 9 purchases you get a jar free! I got my free jar this past Saturday. Leah's Italian Apples (riceballs) are fine, but wayyy too salty for me. Threads By Jill sell the cutest cat toys. I got one for my cousins cat and he was loving it! I bought a cupcake from Sweet Dreams by Jen that was extremely tasty. Yellow cake with fudge inside, whipped cream(nice deviation from frosting) and chocolate syrup and a graham cracker on top. I miss Brooklyn Bar Bath & Body. I haven't seen them at the market in a while. I also truly miss Baby Corn Bath & Body. Best soaps and scrubs around. You have certain vendors who don't miss a market. Then there are others who come every now and then and also new ones popping up all the time. Check the website every month to find out who is going to be at the next market so you get an idea. read more

Super Arts & Craft fair with some great local food and beverages! I mainly get beer and munchables.

I attended the market last year when I visited NYC. One previous reviewer said it was smelly. I am wondering what has gone through the person's mind. Wonderful atmosphere in a very quaint area. It is not like the open air markets with a sea of tourists. The vendors are friendly because I think most people visit the market not coming out empty handed. I bought a small painting from a young artist. read more

The markets here are far more flea and far less food than I prefer, but make for a nice indoor market.

I truly couldn't believe it when I walked into Ridgewood Market on a Sunday and saw about 300 people inside at Gottscheer Hall. This is such a great idea and such a great way to bring an artistic community together. All of the vendors were lovingly selected, and they offered beautiful homemade items that helped to support local businesses. You also had the option of getting drinks from the bar while perusing (which Artists and Fleas WISHES they could offer) as well as stands from Ridgewood standbys like Bunker Vietnamese and Norma's. I hope that this continues on a monthly basis and does very well!! read more

A great addition to the Ridgewood community, the Ridgewood Market is a monthly event. The vendors change somewhat from time to time allowing for variety while also giving local businesses a chance to get exposure. It neatly combines the old Ridgewood (hello, it's at Gottscheer Hall....), with new vendors, artists, and local businesses. Grab a beer, shop, and have a sausage afterwards. I recently went to the Ridgewood Market and was very pleased with the variety of booths, especially the food. At "Clean Plate Co." I thoroughly enjoyed a Very fairly-priced plate of Grits & Shrimp. By "thoroughly enjoyed" I mean i flipped over it (so did my husband- I brought home a plate for dinner). The grits were so smooth & creamy they were like (Delicious!) mashed potatoes & the shrimp were in a delicately-seasoned sauce- not spicy as i feared but very tasty, & I mean that in a Good way! I wish i could get this stuff EVERY weekend! & can't wait to go back the weekend of Aug 31/Sept 1 for more! Handmade Pie also served up really good "meat pies" with a twist: Pulled Pork or Spinach & Feta, among others. There was also a booth selling Honey- all kinds, even flavored honey sticks. Yum. I'd rather have my kids eating honey than candy bars any day. I'm definitely looking forward to visiting the Ridgewood Market again and perusing booths i may have missed with my limited time schedule of last weekend. The only bad thing i can say is that some items were kinda pricey, but ya have to realize they're (mostly) handmade and labor-intensive, and this isn't your typical flea market where you're gonna only find old or cheap stuff- it's a nice mix of everything. The Market has grown over the years. Vendors rotate in and out so there is always something familiar and something new.

Not only is this a fabulously fun market where you can find anything from locally produced honey to art to handmade jewellery to herbal perfumes and goods to clothes to screen printed items to custom made accessories to-- *pant* the list is endless and the vendors switch up every market, so there's always new things to see! The prices are generally extremely good, so you can get really amazing stuff for very little cash monies. But it's not just that! It also takes place in a special Ridgewood historical location, where lots of delicious German/Gottschee/Bavarian food is to be had! This is a wonderful bringing together of the community as local artisans and artists can interact and have fun with the community as a whole. It's always super fun and I can't wait to go to the one happening today!! read more
