Our ac unit stopped working on Sunday. I opened the access panel to find they had not connected the…read moremain ground to the unit and upon reconnection the unit still did not work. I then contacted air expert and They sent out 2 young men, who had very little training and were continuously making calls to find out what to do next. They told me they had no idea of what the issue was and they would send someone back tomorrow. No one showed up the next day and I had to call back again. They finally showed up on Tuesday and tested our system to find the compressor had failed at 3 years old. The tech continuously blamed me for not changing the filter. I have always changed my filter monthly. I asked for a quote and was priced $279.99 for the install and $79.99 for the refrigerant so a total of $360 before tax. We were told the part would be in Friday and would be installed then. We waited a week and never herd back. I had to call again and it was the long week end so I told them we did not want the work done until we were home on Monday. We came home Monday to find out they had been here while we were away and had left all the zip ties, cut up pop bottles and plugs on my lawn. I called Sam to find they had decided to install it on Saturday even though I had asked them to come Monday. He told me he would be there to start it up early Monday and never showed until almost 3 PM. He than had to add more refrigerant to get the system up to pressure. The bill came to $661.00 almost double the quote. I paid up front and called the company to speak with the owner about the over charge, which is illegal in two ways. Being over the quoted price and quoting low to receive business. I than received the installers number to speak with. These people are crooks. Be careful and use someone who is reliable. Lesson learned.

We got quotes from a few businesses, and honestly, the pricing was comparable. All the quotes were within a couple hundred dollars of each other, with the biggest difference being the pricing of the product itself. What won our business for them was the sense of confidence they instilled in me that they were going to do the job properly. Without exception, the other businesses (I won't name names, but all the usual big players in town) spent about 5 minutes in our house. They took quick measurements & basically said "OK, choose your product and we can install it for you". When Greg from PDJ Shaw came, he took the time to explain the pros/cons of the different products to me. There was no pressure to upgrade to more expensive products, and by the time he left I felt prepared to make in informed decision about the best product to use. Because we have an older home (1940s), there are eccentricities in our house. Previous owners had done some strange DIY flooring, and there was the possibility that we would need to have our subflooring (at least partially) redone. Greg built those unknown elements into the quote, and advised me that when the installers came, they would assess the condition and only perform the extra work if it were necessary. None of the other businesses even looked at the flooring closely enough to see that there was potentially an issue there. Considering PDJ Shaw's quote included this extra work, the others were more expensive by comparison, and they could have hit me with unexpected additional costs once the work had begun and we were committed to seeing the job through. When I saw that the product we had selected offered a matching trim (quarter round), I asked about the cost of having that installed. I had planned on doing the trim myself, so that we could stain it to match existing doors etc in the house. Rather than simply agreeing to take my money, Greg advised me that he couldn't recommend the manufacturer's trim because its quality wasn't up to par with the actual flooring. He said that we wouldn't be happy with that product. He even made recommendations for inexpensive products that I could stain myself (shoe moulding rather than quarter round). Installation took one day, and the installer Tom was very professional and took great care to fix existing squeaks in the flooring before installing over top of it. The finished product looks amazing, and I would hire them again without hesitation. Best of all, upon completion of the work, we were refunded for the extra subflooring work that wasn't necessary.
