I visited Frisco Music Center because I was on the hunt for an electric guitar I couldn't readily find in other shops. Another music shop tipped me off that this place had several in stock, and upon calling I was delighted to discover that they did. Although they were initially asking over $100 more than some bigger guitar shops online, the manager agreed to match that price and I was able to take home a Yamaha Revstar! The shop itself is pretty cool. When you drive up on Main Street it appears there's a lot of construction and NOT a lot of parking, but this isn't the case - they have a spacious lot in the back. Enter through the black door and you'll find yourself emerging into the shop near a wall of ukuleles. The store basically appeared to have three areas. The first room had the strings, acoustic guitars, (maybe drums and keyboards, I'm not sure), etc. The second area seemed to have equipment for recording and maybe some effects. The third room was well worth traversing the labyrinthine layout for, because that's where they kept the electric guitars and pedals and guitar straps. Despite being a small business they have a great selection. The manager seemed super knowledgeable and helped me pick some extra strings to go with my new guitar at my request. One of the things that really stood out to me too is that they offer a 50% discount on set-up service when you buy a new guitar from them. Although the person who does it was out for the week, I fully intend to bring my guitar back in to get it set up for only 30-something dollars! (Although, it seemed to play great off the wall.) Overall this is a great local music shop and should be on every guitarist's radar. read more

These guys are great. I haven't played a guitar in 20+ years and hardly did back then, so starting from scratch. Most of the time in that scenario shops direct you to.. whatever they want to sell. Not the case here. He listened to what I wanted and I got great explanation of the differences in the guitars and the significance of them with no push on what I should decide. Just exactly the information and help I needed to make my own decision explained in plain english with no weird attitudes. I went back and researched what I heard just to be sure and yeap it was all spot on. Definitely go to these guys if you are starting out. I would highly recommend Frisco Music Center if you need guitar work! I recently bought a beautiful partscaster off someone who was not skilled in the set up department; for cheap. Upon bringing the guitar home it had some issues such as sharp fret ends, dry fretboard, fret buzz, and a ground buzz issue. I wanted it to get fixed so I could play it. I decided to bring it in to a gentleman by the name of Steve who was very grateful for the opportunity to work on it. I explained this to Steve all the issues I was having and he said that he would take care of it. A few days went by and I was notified that the guitar was ready. I stepped into the shop and saw my beautiful strat hanging on the wall, I pulled it down and was really blown away by the work done on it. The difference was night and day. The action height was sent properly, the fret and ground buzz were gone, and the fretboard was polished and the sharp fret ends where taken care of. Most importantly, Steve informed me that if anything is wrong bring it back to him because he stands behind his work. I would highly recommend them to anyone who is looking for a good set up. I took two guitars to Steve to be setup. The first one had some issues with high action and fret buzz. When I got the guitar back, the exact same fret buzz was there, so I'm pretty sure nothing was even attempted there. I took it back and he got rid of the buzz, but by raising the action which was already a mile high. I followed some YouTube videos on fret leveling and made some cardboard shims, and it plays great now. I don't think he wanted to take the time to fret level. I also took a new acoustic guitar to Steve to be setup. The action was way too high for my tastes. When I got it back, the action was exactly the same. I again followed YouTube videos on setting up acoustic guitars, and looking at the nut and saddle, I'm 99% certain that the only thing he did was adjust the truss rod and charged me $54 for it. The nut and saddle looked completely factory new. I've come to the conclusion that no one cares about my guitars as much as me, and so I will be doing all my own setups from now on. read more

The only reason they get a 2 star is because Mike and Steve Anderson are great guys- both friendly and knowledgeable. However, I was looking to buy a guitar and played 3 different models in a 45 minute span when a white haired man asked if I was going to buy the guitar and when I said probably not today (because I wasn't sold on which one I wanted) he rudely told me I was done, took my guitar, and unplugged my amp. I noticed this place recently, and decided to stop in and check it out. They've got a nice selection of ukuleles. I don't think I've ever seen that many ukuleles in one place before! The best thing about this place is the staff. When I walked in, I saw all of them helping somebody, and they all had smiles on their faces. The staff members sat down with me for a long time, showing me different guitars and playing techniques, and explaining the way that the electronics work. In general, I could just tell that the staff enjoyed their job and were very knowledgeable about the products that they were selling. These guys are true musicians and luthiers. I had a great time visiting with the staff, and I plan to make this shop my first choice from now on. read more

I grew up with Spier music out in the Grove. When it shut down and GC moved in it spoke doom for a lot of places. I went online to find a easily priced keyboard for my daughter of 6 years. I discovered this place. I walked in and it just took me back. The individual that helped me was knowledgeable and I felt I could ask any question no matter how dumb it might have been. This is a fantastic store! Steve is a guitar setup wizard. I took him my brand new ESP E-II HORIZON-III with a factory setup. The action was a bit high and I was slightly disappointed with my online purchase from another store, but not now. The action is super low and the setup is perfect.
