EAT! Brussels is a food festival where you are able to discover different restaurants in Brussels…read more The event features a vast variety of different kinds of food, from Asian and African to traditional Belgian fare and other European foods as well. All are served in smaller portions, starting at 6eur. In terms of quality, you are able to try high quality (meaning: not fried) food that the vendor normally serves in their restaurant. Each vendor normally offers at least a few different dishes. Drinks are also available and can be purchased using tokens (Belgian festivals sure love their tokens for drinks). Honestly, I can't remember all the different vendors/restaurants I tried while here as I would share with my boyfriend so we had quite a mix of foods. What I can tell you is that it is all delicious! You can also purchase goods to take home with you from the Artisans' Village, which features different goodies from all over. Last time I went, I came home with a maple spread (to go with the pancakes I love to make)! Location is in Bois de la Cambre, which is one of my favorite parks in Brussels--it almost makes you forget your are in the city! The venue is set outdoors, which is great when the weather is nice (was the case when they first introduced the event in 2012), but not ideal when the weather doesn't cooperate (happened in 2013, I didn't end up braving the bad weather when we planned to go). EAT! Brussels is held usually in mid-September. Seeing as the event has only been around for 2 years, I really hope they keep it going and have it again in 2014 (and that the weather is nice!). Tip: make sure to bring plenty of cash as I don't believe you can use cards to pay and I have no idea where the nearest ATM is located. Depending on how much you plan to eat and drink, I would recommend bringing 40-50 eur just to be safe. Hope to see you all there in September 2014 (assuming they continue the event)!!

Their rabbit stew was also very delicious and it paired so well with their fries. I'm usually not a big fan of fries, but I could not stop eating them. Service: We didn't have a reservation, but they were able to quickly accommodate us as we got there a bit before rush hour. However, I would definitely recommend making a reservation as it gets pretty busy, especially with locals. All the staff were very nice and attentive as well! Ambiance: They have several levels to accommodate more people. They have their main bar on the first floor, but you do have to hike up a bit of stairs to get to the restroom as there's a flight of narrow stairs, so be careful. I really enjoyed dining here as it felt like a very local spot. This restaurant was definitely the highlight of our trip to Brussels!

The mussels are fresh and flavorful, and you can't help but slurp, I mean scoop up, some of the cream and garlic sauce in between each mussel. The other items are not bad, but nothing to write home about: Flemish beef stew, meatballs in tomato sauce, or even mussels with plain white wine (1 star off). Overall, Le Bistro is a good...bistro...option for some local foods.
