Awesome place for fish and chips in Brussels…read more Backstory- I'm not big on fish and chips and hardly ever order it. My mom loves eating this dish since she grew up on it. So being in Europe, she wanted to eat fish and chips. We had dinner reservations somewhere else but decided to go here for some appetizer sort option to make mom happy. Bia Mara has a ton of fish options and they can get it cooked any way. My mom wanted the locally caught coal fish option. The fish tasted great with the light coat for frying option. We ended up sharing it with French fries. The French fries were amazing as well. This place is local favorite and is extremely busy. And the service was excellent. The server helped us right away. Explained the fish options of the day. Brought out drinks right away and brought out our order fairly quickly. If you want great fish and chips in Brussels, this place is the one to be at. ~

When we got there it was very busy and we wanted to sit outside but the tables were so small they were very uncomfortable to sit so we went inside. Even though it is a very small shop they had a good 30-35 people enjoying dinner. The fish was very fresh and as you are in Brussels of course the fries are always gonna taste great. 5 star fish n chips place. This is an excellent neighborhood to explore Brussels a little bit different from the areas most tourists visit.

I came here with my partner and his parents for dinner and we enjoyed different burgers and their spicy fish and chips- the blue cheese burger was delicious and the spice on the fish and chips were amazing. (Side note: their bbq sauce was made in house and also very good!) We didn't really get to try their beer selection and I've heard great things about their nachos, so we'll have to return! There weren't a ton of folks when we'd gone since we arrived fairly early, but it started to fill up as the evening went on. Additionally, my partner had left behind a backpack and they kept it safe for when they opened the next available day- really honest people and service! They do accept card for payment as well.

The sign is a tiny one over the kitchen entrance so you'll miss it if you're not careful. Arrived on a Saturday around 830pm. Bar was really nice and friendly. Had their pulled pork sandwich with the Dewar's injection. Kitchen is small and can be sow. Don't rush it. Enjoy a few drinks and relax. The house lager on draft was really good. Service was top notch and very friendly. Had such a great time I came back middle of the week and had one of their burgers that was a spicy one. The spice level was fairly hot due to the jalapenos, but it wasn't burn your face off like ghost chilis. I give it a 5 or 6 on the hotness scale. It was flavorful but not anything I would recommend to people who love spicy food. The average person would probably enjoy it. Bar seating with friendly bartenders are what makes this place so skip the table and sit at the bar.

I adore this place!…read more I've been to this restaurant twice now, both times with the BF and his parents. I simply love the simplicity and the freshness of the seafood! The restaurant is simply and elegantly decorated, and it is not a pretentious place. I like to order off of the chalkboard Suggestions menu, as you know it will be fresh and it is what is in season. They also have a chalkboard of Suggested/Featured wine, which are excellent too! At our most recent visit, we had the salmon tartare, tuna tartare, crab fritter and shrimp croquettes as starters. Everything was superb. I had the salmon tartare, it is mixed with ginger and soy sauce. For me, it was a bit too much soy sauce (therefore salty), but the freshness of the fish still came through and I loved it. As main, everyone took something off of the Suggestions menu, except me, I had the fish & chips. I did not realize the fish & chips would be such a big portion with two filet! This is not a typical greasy English fish & chips, rather, it was light and fluffy with just the right amount of batter and perfectly crispy. Toucan Sur Mer serves the fish & chips with a homemade tartare sauce. It was amazing! What I also love about this place is that the waiters/waitresses offer to explain the fishes to you, because the Suggestions chalkboard usually consist of fishes other than your common salmon, tuna, cod...etc. At this visit, we learned about the bonito fish :)

This restaurant does an auto confirmation for when you reserve a table. It seems to not work however as their could not find our reservation. I showed them the reservation and as they were not busy we got a table. The food is very much a tapas or meze style. Many plates should be ordered to share and one plate would not make an entree. Another fault of the restaurant is that the menu shown online beats no resemblance to what dishes they actually serve. So disappointed fat guy was unable to order the food he had eagerly already picked out. The food is good, if a little over priced. This being Brussels we can expect that. The outside conservatory room is a delight to eat in. Wonderfully lit & a great atmosphere, if only they gave a bit more room between tables. One shouldn't have to loudly cough, tap on the shoulder of before finally throwing off their chair, of a fellow diner. For god's sake let me pass! Worth another try but it's not a place where I'd be queuing up to stuff food down my gullet.

They feature a selection of sustainably produced fish and meats, as well as bio cultivated vegetables. (Thumbs up from me for a future looking sustainable cooking philosophy) Lots of fish among the starters, I particularly enjoyed the croquettes and carpaccio of scallops. For mains you can pick from fish, meat, pasta or vegetarian dishes - we both opted for fish and were very happy, special mention for the fish and chips. All come with a choice of accompaniment; including a very nice quinoa based sidedish. To top things off, I always think a meal deserves a good dessert and we were enchanted by the pain perdu de brioche and tiramisu with Belgian speculoos. Both were very good and the perfect way to end the meal. We enjoyed: The fresh, healthy and sustainable philosophy of the restaurant Friendly and attentive staff You might like to try the homemade bio juices We disliked: Avoid being on the high tables if you can, they are not all that comfortable. You might also want to avoid the two tables closest to the door because of the draft if cold outside. Parking can be difficult.
