I have been at the studio for 5 years, and I have enjoyed every minute of it. I only wish I had started earlier. Originally, I was just a singer and I came to get a little dance training because I wanted to do musical theater. I thought it would be good to have a bit of dance ability. I never expected how much I would love it or how much I would progress in my dancing, as well as my acting and vocal abilities All the teachers are phenomenal. They really know how to make someone the best they can be, but they do it in a caring way. Most importantly, its FUN! I always look forward to my time at the studio. There are a variety of classes including Ballet, Jazz, Lyrical, Tap, Hip Hop, Acting, Voice, and Musical Theater. No matter what class or classes you take, you are sure to have fun and learn a lot. It really is a family here. The friendships I have made in my classes and just hanging around the studio will last for the rest of my life. Also, Page and Renee are always there for someone when they need to talk about something serious or needs a laugh. Renee is an expert in the performing arts, and it is amazing to work with her and listen to what she has to say about the business. She is a brilliant director and really cares about each of us. She does everything she can to challenge everyone at the studio, and is really fun! Page is like a second mom to every single person at F&C . Her door is always open to talk and she is probably the funniest person I have met in my life. A great program they have at F&C which adds to the family-like experience is the Assisting Program in which an older student at the studio is placed into a younger kids' class with a great teacher as an Assistant Teacher. This not only bridges the gap between the little kids and adult teachers, but it develops a bond between the older kids and younger kids at the studio. All these things, as well as many more, bring everyone at the studio together to form an accepting, loving, and nurturing family. At F&C, there are classes in voice and acting, as well as dance That is different than a lot of other studios, where the focus is almost entirely dance. This is one reason as to why there are numerous boys, like myself, at Front and Center; the idea that it is NOT just a bunch of girls prancing around in tutus, but acting, singing, and dancing, makes it a lot more appealing. You can start off with taking an acting or musical theater class, and then try some dance classes. Trust me, you're missing out if you don't try at least one. At first I was afraid it would be too "girly," like a lot of boys do, especially Ballet, but now I absolutely LOVE IT! There are a lot of boys around the studio, which also makes it better when you're starting out because you see the other guys doing it, so you think that if they can do it, you can do it. I love everything about F&C and highly recommend it. Trust me, it'll be worth it if you try a class. read more

My daughter participated in the Triple Threat Musical Theatre class at Front and Center and had a vastly different experience than the other reviewers on this site. She loved the experience. She found the teacher to be quite dedicated and always felt great that her teacher remembered things about her and asked about them week after week. That kind of consistent one on one contact is hard to find in dance studios in New Jersey. (My older daughter had taken at another studio previously and the teacher never learned her name.) At Front and Center my daughter learned a lot about musical theatre and how things work in the "real world" and feels ready to take on more classes now that she has had a solid introduction to theatre. She enjoyed the challenge of learning music, acting and choreography and was thrilled to participate in the end of the year recital (nervous but still excited to be involved!) As a parent, I understand that there are all kinds of studios out there that emphasize different things. My daughter only took this one class because she has a lot of other activities and I am thrilled at the change in her after a year. She is more confident, more comfortable speaking in front of large groups and has learned the vocabulary of theatre which will help her as she gets more involved in the theatre program at her school. She was also accepted into a special chorus class that she had to audition to get into. I don't think she would have ever felt comfortable trying out had she not taken this class. I am so happy with the progress she made and will definitely be enrolling her again this coming fall. She talked about this class so much that some of her friends will be joining her this fall too. Some people push their kids into classes like this hoping that their child will become a "star" overnight. I just want her to feel like a "star" everyday in her life and if something as simple as driving her a few miles down the road to take a class can make her feel so good, I will do it willingly. read more

My daughter had a very positive experience at Front-N-Center. She was a recreational student who also took a private voice lesson. She took Miss Julie's musical theater class and she had a great time. She went in very shy and made friends very fast because EVERYONE at FNC is very welcoming regardless of whether they are company members or not. The instructors are professional and give students the opportunity to shine. Everyone gets an opportunity to stand in the front at some point. Yes, they do make lots of changes during the course of a class, but these changes reflect the creativity of the choreography and always make the students shine, ALL OF THEM. I highly recommend this dance studio because here you can learn all disciplines of the performing arts by caring and experienced professionals. Front & Center is the best performing arts studio in New Jersey. My daughter took one musical theater class and thrived. She was extremely shy going in and now she is auditioning for musical theater productions left and right. She has been inspired by the fantastic faculty and in just one short year made terrific friends. It's like being part of a family. The directors are always willing to communicate with the students and the parents about their child's progress and anyone who says the opposite is plain lying. All the students at F&C are so talented and there are no "divas", so if your child goes in with that mentality, then maybe you will have a problem. Most of these kids have been taking class there for the past 10 years and they are always very welcoming towards new students! I took TripleThreat Theater at Front and Center, and I thought it was a total disaster. Every single week the teacher would change the blocking, (where we stood on the stage) the choreography and the people in it!!! Every other week we would stop what we were doing, and introduced new people into the number, which made us have to start all over again. I was so embarrassed by this. I asked my family and friends who wanted to come to please stay come. After the dress rehearsal, the teacher asked me to learn a whole new section of the song, and then asked me to print the rest of the class copies of the lyrics. The worst day was when a substitue instructor told us that our teacher was 'sick' and she wanted to see our classes number. We went into another room, and there was our teacher, running another classes number! To say the least, this class was a major disappointment. read more

I love Front and Center and have been taking classes there for 4 years. I have learned a ton and love all of the teachers. My older brother Ronaldo took classes there for 6 years and is now on scholarship in college for musical theatre and working all summer at a theatre where he is playing the lead in Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat. If you really dedicate yourself you can get good enough to get jobs and hopefully someday be on Broadway. You have to take a lot of classes and really spend a lot of time in dance and acting as well as voice classes. It is worth it though. You make great friends and you get a chance to perform throughout the year. I can't wait for Front and Center Theatre Camp to start on Monday! LOVE IT!!! read more

I have attended numerous Front & Center shows and each time I am blow away with the level of talent. Front & Center is no ordinary 'dance school'. It is a performing arts school. It is evident that they do not just teach their students to act, sing, and dance -- they teach them professionalism and dedication as well. Not only was I impressed with the level of talent of the children, but also with the creativity that the directors/teachers bring to the table. They have taken the performing arts for children to places no one has dared to go. They are giving their students the tools they need to hone their craft -- I don't doubt we will be seeing many Front & Center children on Broadway one day. read more

I've been a student at front and center for many years, and the studio has been the most positive influence in my life. As a performing arts company member, I've received incredible training and support from the wonderful teachers, and have grown beyond measure. In fact, this spring, I was accepted into one of the top five musical theater college programs in the country, something I attribute in large part to the wonderful training I received at the studio. So I don't know why Yelp filtered out all the reviews but left the only bad one I've ever heard anywhere about FNC! It is an amazing place. I was a student there for 4 years and am now studying Musical Theater at an amazing college program (The Hartt School) and was cast as the lead in a musical come fall thanks to the training I got at FNC. The entire studio just feels like a family and every teacher is not only knowledgable about technique and how to dance safely, but they also care about the students and how they are in life outside of the studio. We had a very unpleasant experience at Front and Center. My 12 year old daughter and her friend signed up for a "Triple Threat" musical theater class. The performance number was better suited to eight year olds and the instructor kept changing the blocking, the motivation and the singing parts right past dress rehearsal. It was a huge disappointment when the girls asked us not to come to show because they were so embarrassed to be in it. We tried speaking with one of the owners about it and she refused to take any responsibility at all. In fact, she said the problem was that were weren't investing more money in more classes. read more

My daughter and twin boys are happy to call Front and Center a home away from home. They have all attended classes in dance, acting and singing. They have attended the various summer camps and have most recently been a part of the Performing Arts Company. The training is fabulous. The environment is supportive, compassionate and professional. I can't imagine a better artistic program for my kids. The staff is unbelievably warm and supportive yet they constantly ask that my kids stretch their capabilities. We found Front & Center in hopes of finding a place for our daughter to dance. Now we're starting our fifth year at F&C and we have found not only a place for our daughter to dance, but a place where she is able to discover new forms of dance and theater technique, achieve personal goals, and excel in a safe and encouraging environment. I have been at Front and Center for the past 9 years and it is amazing. My first year i did a hip hop class which was probably the most fun that I have has in years. Not only does the school teach dance, but it aslo teaches singing and acting. I have learned so much from this school in that, I really won't to make it into my career someday.
