We appreciate their holistic approach…read more They offer all of the services that a normal vet does, because they are board certified vets, but usually at less cost, and with a holistic approach. If you want bloodwork or a specific screening, just ask. If you want homeopathy, or dietary advice, just ask. The front desk staff have always been kind, courteous and very knowledgeable to us. We've seen our animals handled very compassionately and with their best interest at heart. We drive from 1 hour away to work with them, and because of that distance, I've learned to clarify when making the appointment what it is I'm looking for and need for my pet. Sometimes they can handle what's needed just by phone, and sending stuff in the mail, so the drive isn't always necessary. If you are travelling from far away, I highly recommend that you call before making an in person appointment, and ask if it's something they can address by phone first. If it's not, then the drive is warranted, and you can always request that you have all the bloodwork, manual exam, and medical testing you want for your pet when making the appointment.

We traveled 2 hours for this visit and the vet didn't even give her an exam. Didn't listen to her heart, didn't check in her ears or paws or anus. He graciously answered many of our questions but instead of excusing himself to move on to his next patient after our scheduled time was up he instead kept us longer and we had no knowledge of it as there was clock in the room. So we were billed for more than what was scheduled. That was unfair to us. We also were billed more for a nosode than what his assistant told me the charge would be. Because we paid cash for it, they were not willing to reimburse us the difference after we had already come home. He told us that he would get back to us on the other questions he didn't have time to answer but we never heard back from him. After a week I contacted the office and spoke with Emily who said she'd find out when he was going to respond and would call me back the same day. I never heard back from her and after expressing our disappointment with the visit the staff have now blocked all communication with me and the doctor won't respond to my texts. Very unprofessional of a business to act in this manner. We now regret the time and money that was spent for a visit we got very little from.

Dont go here if you have a chronically ill or elderly pet!!!…read more Dr. Hughes killed my 17 year old cat! My poor baby had a heart condition and hyperthyroidism and Dr. Hughes gave him a steroid shot! You should never give a pet with either of those conditions a steroid! My poor baby was dead 3 days later! We had been going to Dr. Hughes for several years now and it was know my cat had seasonal allergies and had asthma. Typically when they got bad Hughes would give him a shot and he was better, but since 01/01/2025 my husband and I noticed he was struggling more with his asthma. He had started to open mouth breath a couple days before our appt with Hughes. When we showed up on 1/9/2025 Hughes didn't act with any urgency nor did he do any labs or imaging. Just gave him a shot and sent us out the door. The next day our cat had a rapid decline in heath, so much so we had to take him to MedVet 24 hr Emergency care in Carmel. Immediately he was triaged and was put into an oxygen cage, labs and imaging done. Found out he was suffering from severe hyperthyroidism, toxic congested heart failure, he had a pleural effusion that was drained and had nodules in his lungs. When the ER vet found out he got a steroid shot he was livid. They did their best and told us without the steroid shot he might have lived a couple more months and been comfortable but with the steroid shot he wouldn't have long. He had to be put to sleep the never next day because he was struggling so badly!!! I went to Dr.Hughes to tell him what happened and to ask for my money back for his negligence and essentially expedited my cats passing and he laughed at me! He then told me he wouldn't give me the money back and tried to put the blame on me and my husband. He was really sarcastic with me and asked "would giving you back that $95 dollars really make you happy?" I was appalled by his lack of caring or the lack of guilt in his part of my cats death. In the end I had to be a bit if a Karen to get my $95 back and then was given my records and banned from his office. GOOD! No one who cares for their sick pets or elder pets should take them to Hughes unless you want them to die to his negligence!!!
