Great place to watch the Hawkeyes. Love that they have a popcorn machine but otherwise don't plan on eating here. The wings look boiled and that they didn't fry them. The pizza was toasty on top but underdone on the bottom. As a bar, 5 stars! For food, 2-3 stars. read more

I was really impressed with my $12 steak dinner on Thursday night! I reluctantly met my friend there, and plan to take my caveman boyfriend back sometime. Keep in mind that this is a bar that serves food occasionally, so don't expect the usual tableside service. It is a bit of a free-for-all and logistics of the buffet line and food delicerycan certainly be improved, but the staff is super friendly. Now I know what to expect for next time! My favorite dining companion and I don't really frequent sports bars often, but we were intrigued by the free breakfast with the purchase of a Bloody Mary at Front Row. We decided to stop in and give them a try. When you walk inside, you can immediately tell this is an Iowa Hawkeye bar, from the Hawkeye memorabilia all around, as well as the bright yellow wall in the back. If you're looking for a place to watch a Hawkeyes game, you're definitely in friendly territory. Overall when we arrived, they weren't extremely busy, but they had a decent crowd. The patrons range quite a bit in age, which is always nice to see. It's definitely a place that has a lot of regulars. We ordered our two Bloody Mary's, one for each of us, for $20 total. We then headed over to the tables with the food, to see what our options were. There was some breakfast pizza, which was not particularly good, but that's fine. I wasn't here for breakfast pizza. I immediately saw biscuits and sausage gravy. Score! The biscuits were nice and flaky, but substantial. The sausage gravy looked and smelled quite hearty, so I piled upon my split biscuit and continued on. The eggs were fairly standard but good. The sausage was well cooked. There had been bacon, but if you're from around here, you know how quickly bacon goes at a breakfast buffet. Last but not least was a full fledged omelet station, complete with lots of meat, veggie, and cheese options to complete your omelet. We had one made to order with sausage, bell peppers, onions, and mushrooms. It was well cooked, and delicious. All in all, we liked Front Row. It's a nice laid-back environment, where any age group can feel at home. The food is quite solid, and the Bloody Mary's are quite generously strong (you basically get a glass of ice and vodka that's 2/3 vodka and ice), and the toppings bar for the Bloody Mary's includes a multitude of mixes, many pickled veggies to throw inside, and of course lots of hot sauces and spices to perk things up. We'll definitely be back, and we'd definitely recommend paying them a visit if Bloody Mary's and a nice breakfast buffet are up your alley. read more

This was my second time there and my first experience wasn't awful but this time my first tap beer I got half way through had a brown floaty in it, stopped drinking it and got a new one for the same thing to happen. I told the bartender and she gave me a new beer for free of a different type on tap and the same thing happened yet again in my 3rd beer... definitely need to clean the lines or replace. read more

This is a very fun bar to watch Iowa games! People at the bar are quite respectful and it is a mixed age group. If you are older you will not feel out of place. They also have food items as well. The pizza and the wings looked amazing. I also think they have Steak night a couple of times a week too. I have heard it is quite tasty and s great deal! If you are not an Iowa fan and you are rooting for the other team you are not shamed so don't feel like you can't have fun too. We had ISU fans with us cheering pretty hard for their team and people were very respectful. read more

This is an example of one of those places that you have to have reasonable expectations it is what it is in other words it's a great sports bar with a definite Hawkeye emphasis it has a nice selection of mixed drinks some good Irish whiskeys and some craft beers. On Mondays and Thursdays they will have a special sometimes where they will grill a steak or pork chops for 12 bucks which includes like a baked potato and a salad. During the week if you wanted to have a group of people meet their for a little get together they do have a back room which is also nice. They're also well known for their put your own bloody Mary together bloody Mary bar which has everything you could warrant in a blood bloody Mary and a make your own kind of way. So as I said if you have a reasonable expectations you won't be disappointed it's not a dive but it's not some high-end bistro either. read more

If your a Hawks fan this is a must stop! Lots of cool memorabilia, and pride from top to bottom. Quite a few tv's for sports watching needs. People seemed to be getting rocked on the afternoon I was there! Bartender was not overly friendly but did his job, a few times was out smoking when people needed drinks which I never dig to much.. Looks like they have an open mic night and live music sometime on their little stage in front of their Hawks shrine... Beers are cold... thats always good! read more

It's a sports bar for sure and a Hawkeye hang out. They have fun food and drink options. TVs are everywhere with games showing day and night. On Thursday nights they have $12 steak or porkchop nights with unlimited salad and baked potatoes. The steaks are cooked as requested. Service is always good and it's a mixed crowd of all (adult) ages. Nice place. Worth the stop. read more

Best place to watch the Hawkeyes in Des Moines. Bloody Mary bar and free lunch with hot dogs, burgers and baked beans. It's a value that can't be beat and there's nothing better than watching the game with other fans! read more

Front Row is like my toxic ex; I keep going back thinking things will be different and better, but it's not. After today, I'm finally breaking the cycle. We show up at 11 for a beer or two before adulting for the day, and they aren't open. All sites say they open at 10, there is no Facebook post about being closed, and no one answered the phone. There were several other people in the parking lot waiting too, but we all were let down like a cereal box without a prize in it. This is a Hawkeye bar so that alone is good in my book! Nothing really particularly else stands out. I kind of like the layout of the bar, it's different. Good location for my friends and I as it is pretty much in the middle of where we all live. Definitely a place that has regulars. But I guess what bar doesn't have those? read more
