Stayed two nights about a week and a half ago. Lovely fifth floor room with two queens, kitchenette, sitting area and nicely appointed bath. The room was surprisingly quiet with all windows on one wall, concrete floors in hall, and a bit rattlely vintage door. Very nice furnishings and beds too. Really cool. Check in was also very pleasant with helpful and cheerful person assisting us. Had all the information about town. Sorry I missed her name. Hotel towers over small town and is right in the middle of everything. You can walk to all shopping and most of dining. Neat old building. If we return to visit again, would definitely stay here and recommend to our friends. If you enjoy western art, I would highly recommend the Woolaroc Museum & Wildlife Preserve about 1/2 hour away near Bartlesville. read more

Very nice hotel located directly in the downtown area of Pawhuska. It is in a renovated gridiron building. Our double queen room was on the fifth floor and floor to ceiling windows throughout all the walls. We had great views of the area. The room was large and included a kitchenette. The staff was nice. The only downfall was lack of designated parking for the hotel. It would also have been nice if the hotel could provide basic plates and utensils for the kitchenette . This place is outstanding. Total throw back, with brass keys and daily maid service. King bed was super comfy. Pillows were a little weird, but we made due. Very comfortable leather sofa in the room and a microwave and fridge. Bath was spacious and clean. Once I figured out how to get the thermostat to Auto, the HVAC in the room was spot on. Service was friendly, parking pass for the street, Mercantile right across the street. I ordered carryout on our second night. About a 45 minute wait, so I spent it in our room drinking wine. I could see the guy coming out of the kitchen with our food and made it back to the hostess desk as he arrived. Won't ever go to Pawhuska again, but if I lose a bet and am forced to return, I'm staying here! read more

Took a day trip here and stayed at the frontier with my son one night. I grew up in this small town when i was young so seeing the triangle building transformed into a hotel is pretty cool. It's smack dab in the center of downtown also so the view especially at Christmas time when we stayed is pretty special! Checking in was a breeze Gay and Sue greeted us and we're so friendly. Immediately as I walked into the room I was blown away by the size - large! This was so nice and it even had its own kitchen area with microwave, fridge etc. tons of counter space also. This was just a king room i booked not even a suite so i was impressed! Where I wasn't impressed was the bathroom situation... the person staying before us had an explosion on the toilet and everything was left there for me to view it. Pretty disgusted by this and turned off. After i tried to clean it i obviously then wanted to wash my hands but there was no soap! Or no towels! The shower door was also just left wide open when i walked in. I almost think they didn't clean the bathroom they just took the dirty towels and changed the sheets. I mentioned this before i checked out wondering what they would say the other girl just said sorry and checked me out. It was nice and i would probably stay again but I'd expect a clean toilet and clean bathroom just didn't feel the cleanest at times! read more

Great stay in Pawhuska, OK! Comfortable beds and pillows. It's conveniently located right across the street from the Pioneer Woman's Mercantile. The room was clean, beautifully decorated, and spacious! Loved all the windows! They had thick light blocking curtains but if you're sensitive to light at night bring an eye mask. We stayed here on Thanksgiving. It was lovely, clean, huge and unique. Our room had a great view of the Mercantile and the Christmas lights. The bed and bedding was very comfortable. Initially , I thought the pillows were a bit odd.... they are folded into a square. Once you figure that out, they are absolutely heavenly. I desperately want to find out where I can buy those pillows. I highly recommend this historic hotel. I also recommend dining at the Mercantile. The food was delicious, not cheap. I believe we stayed in the Pioneer Suite and it was just beautiful. Quality furniture and decor. It was also very clean and very spacious! Space for days! The kitchenette was fantastic with excellent views of the street (where they are filming the movie!). It's fun to sit there and eat and people watch too. It has a fridge, sink, microwave, and lots of cabinets. The bathroom was quaint, just a shower, but still very nice. I loved the lobby area too! So beautiful with a marble staircase, probably original from the 1920's. Parking was across the street, but once we checked in, they gave us a parking decal (sort of) that allowed us to basically park anywhere until we left. So that was a perk! We were right across the street from The Mercantile on one side and P-town on the other side. We woke up early and jumped right over at 7am for breakfast at The Merc- NO WAIT!!! The hotel was fairly quiet too with all the buzz from the movie going on. Also we heard a rumor that a certain celebrity stayed in the hotel weeks before. The hotel staff wouldn't confirm that to us, but that's what we heard. I think it's very possible though as this hotel is beautiful and classy. The staff were also very helpful to us. We really had no issues though, so we rarely had to reach out to them. This is a great time to stay there, especially if you are interested in seeing them film the movie or run into a star. The view of downtown from tall windows is nice and being in a triangular building is cool. Great location. The furnishings and decor is great. However, it was overpriced. The room felt as if there were drafts from the windows- a bit chilly and difficult to keep the temperature controlled. The kitchenette was nice, but there was nothing in it, like towels, paper towels, plastic ware or silver ware - nothing. I didn't like the textured glass on the door because it let the light in from the hall at night, and it was difficult to sleep, as well as every little sound could be heard. There was a permanent dip in the mattress on my side. The pillows were too big and stiff (personal opinion). It would be great if the hotel would finish the lower level corner of the building. It is closed off and unfinished. It would make a great welcome entrance and sitting area! The bathroom door doesn't close fully. I do like the concept of the sliding door though. In my opinion, this is not family-friendly. We were told there is an automatic $250 charge for anything broken or missing. I totally understand that. I would not want to bring my kids here. read more

Absolutely gorgeous building and the room was immaculate. It was cozy, warm and smelled amazing! Nice little kitchen area, even if it didn't make sense because the cabinets were empty. The bathroom was well appointed and the bathrobes are a great touch. Downside-the look of the original office windows and door is really cool, however, it is not functional for a hotel room. There is very little privacy as there is no sound barrier between the room and the hall and anyone outside of the room can clearly see shadows and figures in the room. It's also really hard to sleep because the hallway is brightly lit, the lights shine right in to the room. They offer sleep masks but nobody answered at the desk when we called. read more

Adorable hotel! Love the character of the old building they bright back to life. No issues with our room. Staff was incredibly friendly and the location was great-right across the street from the Mercantile! The only suggestion I would make is having coffee and possibly some pastries (from the mercantile bakery) or something quick for breakfast available in the lobby in the morning with some seating. For $350 a night that would be a nice added amenity. We stayed through Sunday and almost nothing is open in town that day so having that available at the hotel would have been nice. read more

Nice place in terms of it being across the street from the Mercantile, and more, but for sure needs work. Six little negatives that add up: 1) This former office building turned hotel for some strange reason has retained the frosted glass office doors and windows in each room's door and hall wall. Translation - blurred people are visible to the people in the room who are walking by in the hall, or when walking in the hall outside one can see the people in the room. ALSO the glass conveys sound very nicely, so that conversations in rooms can be clearly, clearly, heard in the hall even 15' down the hall! The hall light brightly shines through the frosted glass windows and doors to the hall, right in my eyes as I lay down in bed - my wife brought her sleep mask, but not me. There are no curtains or blinds on the inside, so other than making up the sleeper sofa which would change the angle of the light coming in, or sleeping in the bed on my side so that my back is turned towards the door/hall windows, there is no other alternative to the bright hall light shining right up my closed eyelids...poorly done, as my wife said. She asked, "I wonder if any of them have actually stayed in their own hotel?" Don't think so, at least not in 501, lol. This is now a hotel, not a doctor's office nor attorney's office. Either provide curtains/shutters over the glass doors and windows to each room so that guests may precent passersby to see/hear in, or shut out the hallway light, or get solid doors and curtains/shades for adjacent hall side windows. 2) The hot water is hot enough to seriously burn a child or adult; my wife and I both burned ourselves and yelped out in pain - very serious situation that needs to be corrected immediately. Just 1st degree burns for us, but for a child it could mean 2nd degree burns. 3) As of this review in October 2019, an unfinished downstairs on the 'pointy end' of the hotel needs to be finished - the hotel is in the 'Triangle Building' which is it's own triangle block downtown Pawhuska, and the 'pointy end' with glass on 3 sides, would be a great coffee/lounge/breakfast area. 4) Purely personal here: The concrete floors in the rooms would be better served by putting some tile or flooring of some sort over them rather than throw rugs - the look is industrial, and not in keeping with the former professional office building it once was, and definitely not in keeping with a $200+ per night hotel. 5) No wash cloths in the rooms: Please provide wash cloths to your guests. Please! Why only 2 hand towels, 4 large bath towels, but NO washcloths...yes we used the hand towels for wash cloths for our 1 night there, but really, such a simple thing found at the most basic of motels...how could this simple courtesy be overlooked? (Also, in room 501 the night stand nearest the bathroom is a long rectangle that sticks out into the room, so that the person getting out of bed has to scoot down the bed to exit the bed because that nightstand sticks out so far from the wall. A small, simple square night stand would be best.) 5) This may come under the category of fun, or creepy, your choice. As my wife and I walked around the streets at dusk, we heard 'chirping' sounds above us and looked up to see hundreds upon hundreds of bats flying out of an old chimney or vent or something on the roof of the hotel - our room was 501 and the vent/chimney was adjacent and just above our top floor (5th floor) room. Inside the room there is no sound of them - but it was 'interesting' shall we say, to look up from the sidewalk to see where our room was, and see hundreds of bats swirling around and going in and out of their daytime chimney/vent home before they collected as a swarm and flew off for wherever they were bug hunting that night. Summary: Would we stay here again? Actually, we'd go for the "Pioneer Woman's Boarding House" across the street. Both are feet from the Mercantile, but the Frontier Hotel is clearly on the frontier of their efforts. Next time to the Boarding House, and maybe in another year we might, might try the Frontier Hotel again, hoping it will have made the adjustments to make the $200+ per night worth it. read more

We arrived at the hotel and no one was at the front desk. I called the number and left and before i knew it a quite creepy man appeared. His name was Erik and he was so creepy I couldn't even look at him. The room was fine. The shower had nowhere to put soap, shampoo, etc. we could tell the hotel is not completely finished with not everything in our room finished. We may return, but will wait awhile to let hotel management get their act together. read more

Pawhuska has added another gem for visitors to enjoy! My children gifted my husband and I with a nights stay for my birthday. Super excited for this addition to town! The hotel is still in its"soft opening" stage but this boutique hotel is impressive. The manager was kind enough to show us around and let us peak into the other suites. There is not a bad room in the place! Every room has great views of the downtown. From the busy Mercantile, the view up Kihekah Avenue, the Courthouse on top of the hill, to the Main Street area. Visitors can truly soak in the atmosphere of Pawhuska. The beds are very plush and restful. The decor is classy, rustic. The furniture is comfortable, functional and beautiful (I hear the famous Lorec Ranch Home Decor did the furnishings). The triangle structure offers unique room layouts and great views! Visitors will leave their stay feeling like they have experienced something special! read more

This hotel was everything you could ask for and then some. The staff went above and beyond for me and the reason why I'm writing this. I wanted to watch tv which is normal, however I wanted to watch HULU. The tv had the option but not the remote to access that option only cable. I called the front desk and they said they could look for one for me. Well long story short they found one but the batteries were dead. The staff then drove to the local grocery store down the road and got that for me just so that I could watch my show! Super grateful for the staff and the amazing room! read more

I just can't get past the smell. My husband & I just wanted to get away for the weekend and not have to travel to far. We have stayed at the boarding house before but the town was mostly closed. The Frontier Hotel is a beautiful old building and we couldn't wait to have any excuse to stay here. And be waking distance to everything. As soon as we walked in the hotel we were hit with a smell. Like the sweet smell of death. Seriously I think there has to be a body decomposing somewhere. We have been holding our breath when having to cross the lobby. We are on the 5th floor and I can still smell it all the way up here. We will be checking out tomorrow and looking for other accommodations for our final night away. For the price the pioneer suite is very disappointing. Uncomfortable furniture and weirdness everywhere. A entire suite and one teeny tiny trash can? They have a barn door to block the toilet and shower from the main room. It's a good thing my husband and I have been married for 25 years. Because you are basically having to take care of any personal business in-front-of each other. No privacy for the pooper in other words. It's a lot of little things that make you say WTF? Hopefully they plan on finishing things soon if not they need to just close the doors. I'm pretty hard to disappoint but this made it too easy. UPDATE: what we didn't know on going to bed... the Hall lights stay on and shine thru the front windows of the room & door!!!! It was like trying to sleep in the middle of a kitchen with all the lights on! They offer complementary sleep masks, along with silverware and paper towels and other misc items. So ok, sleep mask they may help us sleep with all the light on. Oh wait, no, you can't actually get them because they won't answer the phones! No matter how many time you call down!!! It was so bad we checked out the next morning with nothing more than an apology from the manager over the phone... and no place else to stay, but willing to drive home at the end of the day rather than have to stay there another night. So we found this new hotel directly across the street from The Mercantile by Ree Drummond aka the Pioneer Woman. We visited inside and liked what we saw. Even though parts of it is still under construction it is decorated nicely. They even preserved a few things on the inside like doors and flooring. I really appreciate that when people do that to old buildings. Story on the street: The owner bought the building for $1, and resides in Tulsa. It sat vacant for a while until he decided to make a hotel out of it because he was asked to finally do something with it as it sat vacant for awhile. Honestly, that was a smart choice to make a hotel. Being located where it is, is perfect. But, on average you are looking at $200-$250 a night. That's is pricy for the ares of Pawhauska. But, I guess the location (being across from the Merc) is right on and I can understand why they charge like that. If you are booking, try and book directly through them by calling. They are on third party websites and most likely have to pay a percentage for the business they get when people book through them. I personally do not like to do any business with third party websites. I like to work directly with the business or campanula. I even do that for flying. No Expedia or Hotwire for me. Maybe they will cut you a deal for not using a third party website. If it was me, I would. The rooms are cozy and decorated nicely. They are still working in a coffee area and a restaurant if I am not mistaken. read more

Recently stayed for the second time and found that this hotel has slipped in quality. The room had cobwebs, paint chips on walls and in need of a good cleaning. Our main complaint was that on Saturday afternoon and Sunday morning there was LOUD construction noise right below our room (205) and while we understand this needs to happen at times we thought the time frame inappropriate. When we left our concerns with the front desk we were assured the manager would reach out by the next day, she didn't and we had to contact the hotel a second time, when she did call us she said they would not be able to adjust our rate. We paid the full price of $300 per night but did not get a full price experience, I'm disappointed that some discount wasn't offered for a dirty noisy experience! read more

Sadly I was disappointed with my stay. Shared a room with my elderly parents. Thought my husband and I would try the hide-a-bed since it'd been years! Bad idea. Not the hotels fault but FYI- no one over the age of 10 would be comfortable on that set of springs!! The room was very cute but it's layout is awful. Stayed in room 203. The sofa and chairs are on same wall as the tv so u either have to lay on the bed to watch or sit at the eating table. Yes- the light in the hallway was bright while trying to sleep across from it but - no brainer- we went and turned it off!!! Didn't think there were washcloths in bathroom like another review complained about but was wrong- they were just black and difficult to see under sink. Shower was great! Too loud outside!! Trucks seem to speed through the town at all hours and speeds. Heard sirens at 2am and another 1-2 times after that. Front desk woman was nice and helpful. Love the fridge but do u really need a wall full of empty kitchen cabinets for a night or 2. Surely no one spends much more time than that with rates over $170/nt and not too much to do in town. I don't remember hearing the road noise from my room across the street at the boarding house last year. But then again, it was maybe there. Love the deer print carpets!! So- no sleep and not a great time in room other than the shower which was HOT but I knew how to make sure to get the right temp before hopping in! read more
