Skip the food. Ok for drinks. Wont be back. Ordered app drinks and pizza, server was very sweet and attentive. Male owner was throwing a tantrum in the kitchen loudly behind us. Sad this is one of only a few places in town. Should have been much better. Was served cold pretzels and watery cheese and asked them to heat it up and they came back even colder.. asked them to take them back. Pizza has no flavor. Drinks were good at least! Went to try it out for the first time, and we've added it to our list of "going out" spots! Our family of four started off with the spinach artichoke dip and garlic bread. The spin-dip was incredible! The pizza chips were unique and fun compared to other apps I've had. The cheese pull on the garlic bread was insane. Would have both again. Then, we had two large pizzas, each with two different styles. The adults had an al pastor speciality and kitchen sink pizza, and the other was a pesto chicken and pepperoni pizza. All four styles were delicious, and the fact they were able to accommodate all our wants speaks to their incredible service! The staff was extremely friendly and helpful. This place remains my go-to when I go home. I strongly assert that this place could be just as successful in a big market like the Iowa metro as they are in this small town. The food is great, the staff friendly, and the drinks strong. Compared to Des Moines, the booze prices are stellar. You MUST order the spinach artichoke dip! It's hands-down my favorite thing on the menu. The dip itself is good, but what really sends it over is the fact that it comes out with dippers made from their pizza crust. Went here on a weekday with a party of 2. Ambience is casual. I have heard they serve great Moscow mules. Our server made great drink suggestions. I ended up getting a berry Moscow mule. And wow!!! That drink was strong but you cannot taste the bitterness or smell the alcohol. But I could feel it after drinking about 1/4. Highly recommended. I would come back to Fuel just for their mules. Foodwise, I got the shrimp and spinach artichoke flatbread. And again, wow. I was debating that or the chicken pesto pizza. My friend got the pizza and I think my flatbread was better. It was tasty. Every bite was flavorful including the crusty edges. Would highly recommend both items from Fuel. Overall, friendly staff, delicious food, and casual ambience. Okay, first of all let say I have been to fuel many times in the past three years. I grew up in Clarion. You can imagine how pleased I was to see a family establishment that provides great food, service, libations, and often live entertainment. My wife & I have also enjoyed the outdoor patio on many beautiful evenings. Of the estimated fifty times I have been in Fuel, service was terrific! Ellie, (a great waitress), often helps us when available, and she is an absolute Jewel! On just one occasion when they were busy we had a wait on the patio & my beautiful wife went in to not complain, but to remind them we were on the patio. The owner promptly insisted we accept a $20 gift certificate despite our protests . . . This, is a classy place! read more

Other than that the food was top notch and affordable. If you like crispy, thin-crust pizza, this place is hard to beat. We tried two kinds of pizza, the sausage and the pepperoni and they were both excellent. I love discovering great little places tucked away in rural towns. Fuel is one of those spots. Located in rural Iowa in the small farming community of Clarion this great local hotspot serves great hearty coal fired pizza, pastas, hoagies and local fair. A well stocked bar with some regional micro brews on tap to quench the thirst. The staff, WOW!! They are super attentive and all work as a team to get the job done. I had the house made lasagna which was well prepared. The house salad that came with it was a mesclun mix of greens with house made dressing (Nice to see the commitment to quality food in rural towns). I would have liked a touch more sauce with my lasagna but the ricotta, herb, meat mixture had a good flavor and almost didn't need the extra sauce. among Along with the enticements of a specialty Irish coffee drink to sample, the owner has done a great job of instilling into the staff to take ownership of their guests overall experience. This is SO RARE to find. This is why I will definatly return on my next visit to this area. Awesome job!! read more

I couldn't give this restaurant a complete five star rating because of 2 reasons. First, reason is the food. Our food was delivered in a timely manner and it was hot food but I was displeased with the appearance of the food. Our party ordered the Macho Nachos, when they came to our table the chips that were not covered with toppings were burnt. Last, was the customer service. Our party ask for the Final Four game to be displayed on the television in HD. One television was turned to the HD channel requested and the others were in the standard channels, which is ok. The issue was when we asked for the standard television to be switch to HD, it felt like we were ignored and blown off. The atmosphere was great we received positivity and attentiveness from our servicer. I think customer service goes beyond table service, it floods into the entire restaurant staff!! Some advice for the restaurant, focus on customer service regarding the entire staff and attempt to make the Macho Nachos more visually friendly! read more

Fuel has amazing food and has a nice atmosphere. It is worth a stop in Clarion or near by. The pizza is coal oven style and delicious. We tried the Reuben pizza and a Meatball/Pepperoni pizza both were excellent. The spinach artichoke dip with pizza chips are very tasty. I had the chicken pesto and loved it; these guys make a pretty tasty pizza with perfectly crispy crust and not-your-typical topping combinations. They also have an amazing selection of Deschuttes (Bend, OR) on tap, much to my elation. Great atmosphere, good food, and I was never left wanting for service. Fantastic thin crust pizza. Not very saucy which is a choice/ option to me. Sometimes that's the way to roll ! Flying pigs appetizer with sauce out of this world. Decent beer selection micro. Not much other choices but big brands: miller and bud. Staff is on top of it. Owner is busy and doesn't seem too friendly, but he's busy cooking lots of dishes fast on 750 F oven. Mussels good. OK, even I was a skeptic walking in here and being around the restaurant/bar on my many trips to my hometown. I heard people talking about how good the pizza was, but some of those people like Pizza Ranch (yuck!). Finally, last week I went here after the lunch rush and had their chicken/pesto pizza. OMG! First off, a pesto ingredient in rural North Iowa? That was a shocker! The pizza was great, probably the best pie I've had in over a year, and I've been living in California (sadly, SoCal and not NorCal where the good pizza comes from). I went to fuel and I felt that it wasn't a kid friendly place especially if your child doesn't feel like pizza at that time. They told us they didn't have a kids menu but they can do appetizers, so we tried that. My husband and I ordered off the menu which wasn't pizza. The orders came and they messed up my kid's order. I told the waitress that and of course she apologized(which was greatly appreciated and she was very nice) and brought the manager over and rather than take the food back she offered a different alternative at a 30% discount on the trade off- I wasn't amused about that. I had the chicken strips(awful) my husband's meal wasn't stellar either. When we got the bill it made our jaws dropped!!! It was over $70.00 for a family of four to eat there!! To put in perspective, we could have eaten at unkies(in thor) had 2 queen cut prime rib and 2 kids meals(even if they ordered 2 adult meals like chicken strips and a cheeseburger) for 75.00 . I think that fireside(in Humboldt) might be slightly cheaper. I was very generous in giving it one star(only because the waitress was very polite). read more

My wife and I ate at FUEL for the 4th time tonight and the food was very good as well as the service. The problem came when we received the bill, I realized I never got the salad with my steak. I asked the waitress about this and she said she would take it off the bill which SHE NEVER DID. I then suggested that they bring us a beverage on the house WHICH NEVER HAPPENED. After spending $58 for supper and leaving a $9 tip I was very disappointed. I should have taken $5 back off the tip but didn't. I don't think we will be back. read more
