Fugitive Beach - Beaches Near Me - Rolla, Missouri

Okay, we are in Branson but a friend of mine recommended Fugitive Beach, and we drove two hours to it and it was absolutely worth it! We got there when they opened and had a cabana reservation which I highly recommend. Especially if you are going to stay all day like we did. It's so cool to swim in a quarry, it's something I've never gotten a chance to do especially growing up in San Diego. You can bring floats, noodles, basically anything to float around in. Now, if you want to jump off the cliffs, use the slides, and or use the obstacle course you will need to bring your life jacket or you can rent one there. Trust me, you will want to the obstacle course is really fun as well as the cliff jumping, and slides. We had a blast! We brought our own food and snacks and the cabana has a small grill for grilling. You cannot bring alcohol but you can buy at the bar. You also won't need a speaker because they have a speaker set up and the music was awesome! The staff were super helpful and friendly. This was truly a great time and would absolutely go back again. read more

We LOVED The Fugitive Beach! There was so much to do, and it filled our day. My youngest loved jumping off the cliffs and the swing, and we all loved floating. My boys played catch in the water (away from the big crowds -- they were NOT the boys who kept hitting people with their ball). We saved the slides and games for day 2, but unfortunately day 2 didn't happen. It stormed most of today, and we left town a day early. So if you get a nice day, do IT ALL on day one since there is no guarantee of good weather on day 2! CABANA: (There are smoking and nonsmoking cabanas. Be sure you get the right one for your family. They are clustered together, so know which group you want to be in before booking.) We did rent a cabana. I recommend getting a cabana, but just know it is a financial risk. If the weather is good, you have a nice place to hang out. We used it quite a bit on Monday. My son got tired and laid in there for about an hour while we played in the water. We ate lunch in there. I kept our cooler there, and we chilled off and on throughout the day. However, if the weather is bad, you are out the money. Even though it was storming today, the beach opened, so I couldn't reschedule our cabana date. That was a bit of a letdown since we lost $55 in the deal. We were planning to drive (four hours) for another weekend later in the summer to make up for missing today, but we won't be doing that since we couldn't reschedule. I will say, if you know early that you need to change dates, they will work with you. Originally, we were going to visit Tuesday & Wednesday, and when we saw it would be storming on Wednesday, they let us move the cabana reservation to Monday. Tuesday was not supposed to be rainy, according to the advanced forecast, but it was. We didn't have the prior warning to change that date before the day of, so we lost that money. Overall, great place to go. I recommend it. I don't know if we will be back since it is four hours away from us, and the weather can ruin the trip, but I am very glad we experienced it. read more

We got here early and glad we did because you need to if you want a decent spot on the beach. This place was completely packed by noon. Their hours are 10am - 6pm, so plan on being there from open to close. It was $15 per ticket for a day pass plus you had to rent a life jacket if you wanted to do any of the fun things... so $20 a ticket in reality. The cliffs were very pretty but the water seemed to be dyed with some kind of chemical that did not look natural at all. Makes me wonder how clean that water really is. Overall a cool find if you live around the area but I will not be driving 4 hours to come back down. read more

The owner and staff are incredible, super friendly and extremely helpful. I'll start with the end-after an awesome day swimming, cliff diving and cooking out. The staff came by and helped us load up all our stuff and bring it to our vehicle. Unfortunately we locked our phones and keys in the car. The owner was called and he opened our vehicle. This was an overall great experience and place to have an awesome day of fun. Don't miss out on this great place to have fun!!! We'll be back!! read more

This place was alright. Photos on internet of course made it seem bigger. Definitely not a fan of the rocky sand they have! Why have a rinse off station right near more sand? otherwise we had fun. Definitely recommend water shoes vs flip flops. read more

Cool little waterpark-type thing. You can rent life jackets for $5 each. They have a changing room. They also have porta potties for bathrooms. There are 3 little platforms that you can jump into the water from; a 10 ft, 15 ft, and 20 ft platform. There is also a small kid slide and a bigger slide. The only annoying part is the amount of sharp rocks that you step on in the water. It really hurts, and you can't avoid them. read more

Any negative review of Fugitive Beach should be overlooked. We had a blast. We came into Fugitive Beach with a 3/5 expectation after reading the $100 piss bath review. We paid the $10 entrance fee and optional $5 adult life vest fee (mandatory for kids) since we wanted to do the slides and cliff jumps. We were glad we did. The environment was upbeat, friendly and all around an enjoyable way to wrap up summer. We packed a cooler full of food and drinks, brought our own floaties and just sat on our beach towels. We didn't pay one extra dollar for anything else. The only thing we would recommend is lite weight water shoes. The sands and floor of the swimming hole can be rocky. Oh and it didn't smell like piss. At all. read more

Our first trip and we really enjoyed it! Well for sure be back. I liked that we could bring our own coolers and snacks along with toys, life jackets etc. It allowed our family to be able to do more rather than paying for every little thing. We had took advice from friends that had gone and felt prepared to really get the most out of our day. My one annoyance was that we paid for the AC women's restroom use because I have an infant and didn't want to change her in public or make my other daughter use the porta potty. While I was in the AC bus changing my baby and nursing, no one was there to check if they paid or to keep it cleaned or stocked. It's aggravating that we paid and everyone else that came in didn't. Plus there was no soap and it was pretty dirty just like the porta potties. read more

WATER SHOES!! There is a fair amount of walking to get from the cabanas to the water or any attractions and it is extremely rocky; even in the water. We visited on a Monday, and it was not over crowded as I had read in reviews from weekend visitors, and we really enjoyed it! Lots of space to swim and spread out, water was clean and warm. Our kids range in age from 11 to adult and everyone enjoyed it - those of us who remembered our water shoes more than others - but still a great time. read more

What a great day trip - less than 2 hours from St. Louis. Visited with a friend & 6 teen/preteens. We really had no idea what to expect (especially after reading the one & only Yelp review) but looked at many of the pictures posted on Facebook & decided to give it a try. I was honestly thinking this was going to be one big party/float trip like experience, but it was not at all. It was very family oriented & everyone was cordial, polite & responsible. Pros: *you can bring in just about anything (except alcohol) so this saved us a ton of money since we brought our own drinks, a canopy & food. *there was a lot of space on the beach for us to put up our canopy & spread things out - & we were also able to keep track of our kids when they were in the water & we were not. * huge parking lot, easily navigated & close to the entrance. *attentive & friendly staff *many different sized "cliff jumps" for all ages & abilities *short lines for platforms & slides. Not a sandy beach, more like medium gravel, good tip to bring beach shoes. The lake bottom itself is rocky. Difficult to bring walkers or coolers: sinks right into the gravel. the lifejackets you need to rent are small and well worn. the mobile bathrooms are disgusting and by the afternoon were filled. did not help on a hot day. parking lot has gravel and various rocks, difficult for elderly to walk through. We arrived at opening and the beach was scattered with trash cans and didn't look quite as pretty as expected. The sand was reddish. However, once we got down in there it was pretty cool!. Options for rentals and the water is very green up close and pretty. There is a big water slide and two jump off points. A good sized expanse of water and it didn't feel too crowded even with a large volume of people. I took a lot of pics to share, so you get a real idea of what out looks like. I went with a group of 8, fun, easy-going adults yesterday, 6-25-22. It was $15 apiece admittance. We drove 250 miles round trip. It was an easy drive, smooth highway, great speed limits, to get there from our group's respective cities in the St. Louis and Illinois areas. It was UNGODLY crowded, and the water was 'nose-to-nose' people. The beach-side cabanas were all rented by the time we got there 1 hour after it opened. The walk from the parking lot to check-in was a LONG way, with all the bbq, food, and picnic supplies, lawn chairs, float equipment, etc. Then from the check-in area to the rented picnic table/bbq pit, it was several blocks walk on a scorching rocky, dusty 'road.' From our picnic table to the beach area was a LONG, hot walk-again several blocks. They do not let you drive in to drop off supplies, so it was super difficult to walk the coolers and supplies into the area where the rented tables were. The changing rooms were dirty, unventilated and very stinky. They looked to be not maintained or regularly cleaned-and we used them only 1 hour after the place opened. The videos on YouTube make Fugitive Beach look humungous, but in reality it's NOT. At all. We got there and were very surprised at how much smaller it was than the videos portrayed. ALL the water on the beach side of the ropes is a shallow 4-feet deep. If you want to go past any of the roped-off area, to the deep water, it's mandatory that you wear a life jacket, which they will rent to you. The same way with the 5-10-20-foot jumps-you have to wear a life jacket, which makes the jump dangerous when the life jacket rides up your body with full force as your body hits the water. The beach and water has coarse sand and is very rocky, as well. To get back in line after jumping from the jump areas, it was a long, long, walk. Not worth it. We are party people, so we made the best of it, and managed to have a crazy, fun day, but won't be returning, and won't be advising any of our friends to go there, either. Sticking with the Meramec River, Huzzah, Courtois Rivers from here on out. I love that so many people loved it, but I'm giving our group's honest, personal opinion, and we're super easy-going party people. I'm not saying don't go. Go ahead and go, and give it a try, like we did, at least once, if you want to. You may like it! But you won't be seeing us there. Have a great, fun-filled summer! read more

Heard about the place so I went to see for myself! Best thing about it : cliff jumps and numerous slides We rented a cabana and grilled some brats and burgers on their grill. Cabana was best idea because the picnic tables for $30 don't cut it for the amount of better space you get with a $55 cabana. Enjoyed the atmosphere and the staff which was always there to answer questions. They even walked around and made sure you were having a good time. ILL BE BACK! Cons: rocky by the cabanas, bathroom portopotty smelled of strong odors. No portopottys by the cabanas. I enjoyed the visit and so did my friends. This place is better than what I expected and more fun than people said. Many options for food and drink. Things I would recommend : bring water shoes instead of sandals if you're going to use the slides and jumps. Things I loved : staff was on top of things, the place was clean! MUSIC! nice and loud! Been missing the beach ever since leaving Virginia and moving here to Missouri. This place helped. Had a great time. Wasn't busy at all, beach was clean, drinks were cheap and good! Nasty nasty nasty!!! It's non filtered and non treated, so it reeks of pee. The water is literally green and the smell of urine will stay with you and your kids for MONTHS. add the cost of everything and you're basically paying $30/person to sit in pee. Avoid!! read more

You can get away pretty cheaply if your family is on a budget. But, you'll have to carry everything quite a distance. We payed only for the $10 entry fee and the $5 life jacket fee. We traveled from St. Louis and got there early. We brought our own canopy, chairs, cooler, picnic basket & swim noodles. Setting up was easy and we had a great time. But after a day playing in the sun it it was exhausting carrying everything up the hill. Wheels don't work on sand, so rolling coolers or rolling canopies still have to be carried. And wet towels/clothes weigh a lot more than dry ones. It would be a huge help if at least the hill was paved or a sidewalk was installed to make it easier to get to and from the beach area to the parking lot. So, overall it was a successful trip and we had fun and spent less than going to Six Flags or a water park, even including gas from St. Louis. read more

I will admit, this was a gem in the middle of Missouri, but it did not live up to it's hype. It's pretty pricey to get in for a day, THEN you have to rent everything. They don't disclose that you have to have a lifevest to pretty much do anything there, which forces you to pay $5 for one. The bathrooms are also port-o-potties which isn't great. All the jumps/slides look pretty old/dirty, and a lot of their equipement is the same. The food options were actually pretty good, and the beer was very well priced (for city pricing - more expensive than typical rolla). Unfortunately, I saw all these pretty photos and it just didn't look like them. The water wasn't as bright and the sand wasn't as clean. It probably doesn't help that there were a good amount of people that were blatantly drugged out, which didn't make the experience as enjoyable as it could have been. Overall, if you're desperate for a beach, it was okay, but personally, I won't be returning. read more

If you think this is a spring fed natural swimming hole- you're sorely mistaken. It's a glorified swimming pool in a rock quarry. Bathrooms are in an RV. You have to pay for a cabana - aka the only shade available. Life jackets must be worn when jumping off cliffs and going down slides - which is uncomfortable and defeats the purpose in my opinion, but apparently is necessary if you can't swim because they're have been several drownings at this location within the last year. All around not that fun, and also not that safe. read more

We went on a weekday and it was awesome! Of course it's not a real beach but it's very large and deep. Tons of room for activities and places to cliff jump and a large slide. They also have places to rent for large groups and they provide grills. Ten dollars to get in isn't much and you get a full day 10am-6pm. Food is reasonably priced and tasty. 10/10 would recommend for a fun day trip. If you're coming from Saint Louis it's a short 2 hour drive :) read more

As a parent I will never again take my children to a horrid place such as fugitive beach. The trash was overwhelming and was even rolling across the "sand" like a tumbleweed. After watching a man put his cigarette out in the water I decided that I had had enough. And it's no surprise the potential for incidents to happen with the careless and negligent lifeguards. The murky and filthy water gave my son pink eye. Then once you get out of the water you have no choice but to walk on the puddles of dirty water in the gravel, mud and sand combo. 0/10 would recommend. Awesome place! Pretty good drive from where we live in kansas, took the kids for a birthday party for an overnight trip. More then met our expectations with a group of kids 9 to 17, and we ALL HAD A BLAST! This place is a treasure! Got a cabana, grilled lunch, and spent the day. As we were leaving, had ignition issues with one of our vehicles. Every lifeguard, as they left, stopped and ask how we could help. One of the owners let us keep the car there with cameras on it, and let us get it on a trailer at 11:30 at night. If you get the chance, take your family here. Youll make memories i guarantee. Owners wonderful people, every lifeguard on the ball, but you can tell they genuinely like their jobs, and seeing people enjoy themselves. They all work together to make it an amazing experience. Cliffs to jump off, slides, floating islands, and beautiful scenery. We've been to mississippi, florida, alabama, and can't say I've been to a friendlier fun place to get some quality time with the fam. My 17 year old son and I are on a cross country road trip, and scheduled this as one of our stops. I was worried about cleanliness after reading the reviews, but we had so much fun!! Totally clean. My eyes didn't sting, my sinuses were fine after jumping in, no trash or anything. I have no idea what these people are talking about. Bathrooms are outhouses, but they didn't smell as bad as I would think in the Missouri August heat. Clean changing rooms and a rinse off area. Snack bar with beer. Can rent chairs, canopies, floaties, etc., like anywhere else, but you can bring in anything you want to save money. Some of the rental spaces even have bbqs, so you can seriously make a whole day of it. To be clear, it is not a pool. It's a quarry. So, if you go looking for concrete and chlorine, you'll be disappointed. Yes, there are rocks. The "sand" is pebbles. The steps and paths are tough on your feet. I do wish I had water shoes to protect my feet, but it really wasn't that bad. Jump platforms, slides, a huge shallow area, and plenty of space I just hang out in the water... all kinds of stuff for all ages. Two more things: 1. They have lifeguards, but it didn't seem like they enforced the rules too much (like only one person jumps at a time, flipping, etc.), so make sure you're looking out for your group. And 2. Life jackets are required for everyone under 10, and for all ages on the jumps, slides, and deep areas. They're uncomfortable, but I totally see the reasoning. Again, it's a quarry; the water is clean, but it's cloudy. We had a great time!!! read more

Bit of a drive, but worth the trip. We rented a picnic area with a grill and brought our own lunch, drinks etc. Alcohol and glass NOT allowed, they will check. But alcohol is sold at the snack bar. Staff was available as well as life guards on site, but they were strictly there for life saving, just about anything goes when jumping into the water. I didn't hear a whistle blow once, and there were tons of uncoordinated people attempting flips and jumping in. There are 3 jump docks, 10ft, 15ft, 20ft, don't worry you can't hit the bottom, very deep. They also had a HUGE water slide, you get moving pretty fast before the short drop into the water. If thrills are not your thing, feel free to bring your own floating device and enjoy yourself. Only gripes are that the beach and walking paths are rocky. Not huge boulders or anything, but rock paths. So learn from my mistake, buy water socks/shoes. It was a great day, with no stress. I would highly recommend Fugitive Beach to anyone looking something to do with family or friends. read more
