We rented the Hiller House for an annual girls float weekend. We had about 20 people and it was perfect. There were tons of beds and bathrooms. The layout is a little strange as all bathrooms are on the main floor but it worked out great. The kitchen is a little small but there is a lot of space throughout the house. If you have a smaller group then Huzzah has tons of options for all sized groups. Check out their website for more info. We went for 4th of July and stayed at the family campground. There was no noise control In the "quiet hours". The first night people were up until 3am yelling, literally howling and swimming. We complained and were told they would be on top of it the next night, it ended up being even worse. No oversight.. There was one shower house/bathroom with 5 stalls on the family side and a few porta potty's. The bathrooms were not cleaned regularly and were really gross. Kids were locking them and shutting the doors so that there was only one stall available. We told the front office that the lights were off in 4 stalls and doors were locked and they came and unlocked them.. only to have kids do it again. Felt like something they should have stayed on top of. read more

Huzzah is far enough from the city to feel like an escape into the wilderness, but close enough that it doesn't feel like you've spent all day driving to get there. I successfully made reservations over the phone...online reservations have been an issue in the past. We arrived after 4 p.m. and checked into a busy store where everyone was working diligently. I will say, it's expensive to camp here. They charge per person, not per tent or site. We stayed at a primitive campsite that was nicely shaded. Each site has a picnic table and a fire pit, both well used. River access from the primitive sites is close and refreshing on a hot day. In the evening, it's lovely to sit by the river, stargaze, and watch the lightning bugs in the trees. If you're lucky, the people around you will turn off their music by midnight so you can enjoy a little peace. There's access to a porta potty near the campsite that's about as decent as you can expect. You can walk or drive to a shower house, but keep in mind you'll need quarters to shower, and the change machine isn't always working. The flushable toilets are hit or mis. Some are clean and stocked with toilet paper, others are...not. Floating is easy to book, and the rafts, canoes, and kayaks are well maintained. The Huzzah is a fast-moving creek when the water's high, and more of a slow drag when it's low. I'd recommend the 6-mile float for a nice full-day experience. Don't forget sunblock, hats, and sun shirts. Also, bring plenty of water and snacks. When you're done with your float, a bus will take you back to the main campground. I've been to Huzzah many times for a quick getaway. The experience is enjoyable, and the front desk staff is great, but it is pricey, and the facilities could definitely use better upkeep. read more

READ BEFORE YOU GO TO HUZZAH VALLEY RESORT! If your looking for peace and quiet go elsewhere. There is more ruckus going on here than the city we drove from! Overcrowded with more city people than expected. Thousands of people, campers,tents, doors opening and slamming all during the night. This place is huge,overcrowded, drunks everywhere. Their so called Zoo or party area is across from the so called family camping Good luck sleeping as they party all night, blaring music, screaming,loud bangs. The sound carries across the river as must be the dumbest set up ever. Not to mention the sell this as a "Family Oriented" place. NOT EVEN CLOSE. If you camp in family campground the party barges or rafts float right through the family campground all afternoon and evening. Constant nudity, profanity, drunks, fighting, loud oversized stereos. Why build such a huge resort on a small creek? Oh and the resorts sits right off the main highway. All day and night loud vehicles go by and 18 wheelers downshifting. I believe I had the best camp site at the resort. Had short walk to river. The cell signal was awesome. The customer service couldn't be better. The Porta potty was close. No one bothers you. Infact I saw no one on my stretch of river except a couple of floaters. Go during the week it's like your own paradise. It was a primitive sight. So bring water and camp stove. read more

We went on a weekday float trip. It was a lot of fun. The reservation and check in process was smooth. We chose a 6 mile kayak trip. The river wasn't too crowded. We didn't have to wait to get our kayak and we didn't have to wait for other groups at the pickup point for the shuttle back. I noticed that they didn't have inner tubes, but that didn't affect my group. It was a great experience. read more

We spent three months planning a trail ride for 10. Multiple phone conversations, including the day before the actual ride. The agreed-to deal was a two-hour trail ride for $65 per person. The day before the ride it turned into a one-hour ride for $75.... Then we show up for the ride this morning and there's no record of our reservation - despite confirming the day before! Read the first review, this is about new stuff I learned this time- There is a party side & a family side of the river. The $12-18 water shoes from the store won me over & then the die hard fisherman in the group. There is trout& fish with tags (when returned to the conservation department is) worth $25-$75 in the river. Buy bundles of wood from the house about a mile away from the campsite to for a slightly better price. The sign is reflective and the wood drive thru shed is easily seen from the road. I grew up & stayed in a tent with a air mattress (very nice- but I lost the jokes about "living in a van down by the river") "Team Huzzah" are a group of adaptable people. The same guys cut down a tree by our campsite also picked us up after the trip. The women at the stroe also cook the pizzas & breakfast buffets. read more

This was our first time staying at HVR. We will be back without a doubt. The river is right next to the camping sites, and STUPENDOUS for rafting canoeing and kayaking. We stayed in our RV and the sites are top notch. Full hookups (50 amp) with plenty of room most with good balance of shade. The staff was very friendly to both my wife myself and our dog (very pet friendly). There is a Lot of wide open space. This gave us plenty of space to take our poochy for daily walks. Plus they are right on the Mark Twain National Forest a leg of the Ozark Trail just a short drive away. The only drawbacks are the laundry is a bit beat up, but we were able to get by. read more

Verizon cell phone service does not work at Huzzah Valley resort by . Hopefully Verizon will put in a tower since I called them.. The A-frame house we rented for the night had ants The mattress on the couch needs replacing with the memory foam . The A-frame house we rented , we put all our stuff in the house and then later on after our float trip, we were told we had to switch houses and we were not moving to another house. floating was a workout vs relaxation, hopefully, next time we float, we will be on a different current. I enjoyed the scenery the outdoors, but not the Hunt Brothers Pizza We order , got sick . Will be back though . Hopefully Verizon cell phone service will be working by then. I liked how security would drive around every 20 minutes or so , I felt safe with security driving around . Between the customers the employees everyone is nice. Our bus driver, who drove us down to the current for floating workout A+.. Great place for a mini vacation or unwind . we've been going here three times a year and will keep going. they are fixing up the cabins in the A frames . We had a wonderful time at Hazzah! The people were all super Friendly and helpful. This was our first time going and it was highly recommended from friends, that have gone every year who absolutely love it. We were very happy with our visit we were there in the middle of the week where it was not busy at all. It was nice and relaxing. The first day we took the upper half of the river that ends at the campsite, it was a rough waters the first 40 mins. We are very new At Kayaking so it was hard for us. The second day we took the lower half of the river which was a lot easier and way more relaxing for us. We also did the 2 mile tubing which was super fun! I noticed people complaining about no mile markers. We did actually see halfway mile markers on both days. They also recently got a new AT&T tower there so our reception was very good. I think you have to realize that a lot of these areas also are private property and Huzzah probably does not have permission to put any other kind of signs along the way. Someone complained about the RV sites not being very level, most RV sites are not very level that is why they sell leveling kits that you need to bring with you to level your RV... we are super excited to get back this Fourth of July I'm sure experience might be a little bit different with more people around but we will look on the bright side of everything! read more

So me and my kids primitive camp but we use electricity. So we always ask for an electricity and water site. We arrived around 7 PM yesterday and the staff was very friendly at the front counter. I bought 23 $ worth of snacks for kids. Long 3 hour ride from home. It was awful. Maybe the owner should have been a tad nicer to me. I am a single mom. I came with my two kids, late Monday night and paid at arrival desk lady knew I needed electricity in my tent so I needed water and electric on sight paid 30 for one night ended up paying 4 more after arguing with owner, , drove around looking for my spot till 7:30pm spot 74 called huzzah guard came out showed me my spot Bc it was late and my spot didn't have power. She knew I needed it. The guy said I had to call up there. I called up there and asked why we had this issue and they said they had me down for primitive. No electricity on-site. It was a big deal, then across the road by campers was electricity and you could put your tent up. By river. So I did. And she said I will have to charge you more tonight come up before 9. And it was 8:30 and I had my kids two small kids 5 &3 and I still had to set up my stuff. I argued that I paid out for night and was tired needed to set up and wouldn't be back up till tomorrow they argued and said it wasn't aloud I had to pay. She said she was gunna call patrol. So she messed with a mamas anxiety. The nice security guard that had been there for the last. 15 years bought me wood all night for me and my kids. Pretty nice. He couldn't believe how his own fellow employees treated me and my kids. Then I paid out for the night of 4$ after she said that was fine Bc it's 35 for electricity. I said to give security guard 4$ to run up to her before 9pm. The next day I went up there and got to talking decided to stay a night again right in same spot and do 2 mile float.:/ it was AWFUL!!!! No water river so low you drag.. you couldn't use your own inner tubes. You had to purchase their huzzah resort tubes and they dragged sucked terribly. But we loved the views. Staff was overwhelmingly unsupportive and I'm very unsatisfied with my stay. Was not worth my whole entire paycheck. My kids and I deserved more of a friendlier stay and I wish I would of been more satisfied read more

We went canoeing here this past weekend. I was leery because of some of the bad reviews, but we had a great time! It's a beautiful river, and a canoe (while difficult to navigate at first) will get you away from the floating parties and into the serenity of nature. My only complaint was that the bus driver for the trip back was only slightly friendlier to us than he might have been to cattle, and he left the door open throughout the journey, which is dangerous for the many people who bring their dogs. read more

Yep, a lot of fun. Rent a cabin to avoid the outside elements. Beware, they aren't that clean. We brought an air mattress instead of using their bed. We laid down old sheets on the floor from the bed to the bathroom. Tip #1 Double sock and peel the outer ones off at bed time. I sprayed the entire bathroom with Scrubbing Bubbles and had Clorex wipes for all handles and other surfaces. I'm not bent out of shape about it... you are supposed to be roughing it. So, bring your own TP no matter what. Honestly, I would have rather slept in a tent, but we were bunking with a non camper and it wasn't an option. The cabins have grills and a full size fridge, so bring your wienies. Tip #2 Don't agree to help your husband with the grill unless you establish exactly what he plans to do with the cup of lighter fluid. FYI Neighbors don't like the smell of burnt hair. You can't bring glass on the river, but you can transfer the already mixed drinks into plastic containers. May I suggest rum and Coke in a two liter? Bring some sandwiches and snacks... it's a long, hot day. You will also need bug spray, sunblock, sunglasses, a hat and a zip lock bag for personal effects you don't want to get wet. Don't wear your white bathing suit... the mud slope slide will leave a stain. Also, don't feel like you have to watch someones three year old just because they left them there unattended. Just shove off and let them handle it. They do have patrons that will toss Mardis Gras beads for those who want to participate. Others will be sprayed with super soakers. Tip #3 Bring a few bead necklaces along for bartering purposes. FYI: Bug spray will make the beads discolored and turn your skin a lovely shade of green or red. Toxic, I'm sure. By the end of the float the less drunk people really hate the drunk people. So stay pretty tanked to avoid the feeling of outward hatred. read more

Been coming here a long time. Yeah, it does get crazy at times. I only stay on the family side. Usually have pretty good service here. If you get up early they will accomodate you with transport. I usually stay around the same campsites and I like it there. With a mile of river front, you can't go wrong. Staff always seems friendly to me. Just be aware there will be drunks. I bring my family and we usually don't have problems. The only downfall is they could have cleaner bathrooms/showers. read more

This was our 3rd time visiting HVR. As always it was amazing. I came here to leave a review after reading some really petty reviews. The staff were gracious and welcoming to us and our 3 dogs. They are one of the few resorts that allow more then 2 dogs in their cabins. The place was clean, the grounds very well maintained and we left it just as we found it. Our float trip was perfect, and they came and got us promptly when it ended, not very many ppl floating right now and no one around but no worries the staff were watching out for us. I've never had staff be rude to me there, even the guy blowing the leaves on the property asked if it was ok and if we minded, and proceeded to welcome us and give us a bit of history about the area. The staff do not control the river or whether you drag you're canoe. If you do not know how to canoe/kayak I suggest you just float, you can do so with minimal skill. We will be back, thank you HVR for your hospitality and for sharing the gift of nature with us. read more

I was here 12 years ago and visited again this weekend. Most of the group chose to camp, but we decided to stay in Pavilion #2. 6 mile float. 10 man and 4 man raft. We loaded the bus at the main area and took it up river to get dropped in water. We got on the water around 11 and got back about 5:30, with a swim and food stop. The water was pretty high, but we still had to drag the rafts a few times. Life floaters and paddles provided. The camping sites are clean and well maintained. There are showers and bathrooms available at the main entrance building. Showers last about 5-7 min, so bring your quarters! Our pavilion has a deck with tables and chairs. Inside we have AC, fridge, microwave, toaster, small stove. It sleeps four when you pull out the couch. Dish for tv. Super clean. No linens are provided. You must bring sheets, pillows, towels, and any cooking utensils you may need. If you forgot something when you left home...you'll find it at the main building or one of the gas stations nearby. They have EVERYTHING. They have family, party, and quiter spaces. It's for everyone!! read more

I have been to Huzzah before with a big group and this most recent trip was yet again with a big group. We had a great time but they need to organize better. They have a quiet side and a noisy side. We were placed on the very last loop on the quiet side with the group we were with. They couldn't find our reservation, etc so that took more time than necessary but they were apologetic about it and finally figured out the mess up. They offer a lot of goodies in their store so if you forget something or want something to add to your site they most likely have it. We asked about using a raft instead of a canoe for our float the next day but they were out of rafts. They need to have more rafts as that is the popular route nowadays and I'm shocked that a rental place ran out. They tell you not to bring firewood, you can get a bundle for $5 at the lodge. If you are doing the online reservation make sure you call to confirm the reservation was accepted. I've camped and floated at the Huzzah Valley Resort for years now and have usually had a decent experience. But this summer when we booked a camping and floating trip online, a month in advance, we found out the reservation never went through. I had tried calling several times before the planned trip to make sure everything was set up, but either received no answer or was put on hold for ~20-30 minutes and never got to speak to someone. The day before the trip I finally got to speak to someone to learn the reservation was never processed and they were in fact booked for the weekend. Luckily another campground in the area was able to get us in. read more

I kayaked the 6 mile float that ends at Huzzah and almost drowned at the halfway point. I've been canoeing and rafting dozens of times and kayaking at least 4 times before so I felt semi-skilled. Moving water is dangerous and I was stuck in a frightening situation when my kayak flipped, and trapped me against a pile of drift wood. If I had a pet or child with me I don't see how they would have made it out. I barely was able to get back up to air. I was with a friend and no one else was in sight ahead of us or behind us. (This was the weekend before Memorial Day.) There is no cell service to call in case of emergency. The driver provided zero instructions to beginners or experienced customers. There are no life jackets provided. There was no word of caution that the river was higher or faster than usual, if it even was. Use Extreme Caution if you want to come out alive! And this all happened sober, most people are drunk and partying on this river especially in peak season. The Huzzah Valley website says kayaks are "fast, safe, stable and add a new dimension to touring the Huzzah and Courtois Rivers. Even with no training, anyone can enjoy a day on the river in a personal kayak..." and "Huzzah Valley Resort pioneered the fun kayaking session in the Ozarks. Kayaking, like all the Missouri Float Trips, are safe, stable and fast. If you're a neophyte to kayaking, you don't have to worry because you can surely kayak down the Huzzah River or Courtois Creek with ease." I disagree, and I am thankful I made it. I see the bad reviews about drunks and cost. But at least you weren't alone on the river.? I'm not sure how many drownings happen there each year. There are no warnings saying Danger ahead on the right or left. And there are no mile markers to send help to even if you had cell service. I'd feel better if a security patrol was watching or something! The site has a bunch of Policies & Rules, but not much if anything at all on Safety! The "River Conditions" link how # of feet and speed of the water, but not how it relates to "normal" levels or currents. I understand they must want to avoid liability but still. At least offer a safety course or lessons for beginners as a courtesy! read more

Do not take young kids here. We booked a kayak trip for early Saturday morning July 2020 . When we arrived at 9:15 there were naked people in the parking lot already drunk.Lots of people were partying already. The Huzzah website says early hours are calm and good times for families, that's definitely not true.This place is not for families . Take your family to a nicer place. We spent 5 days there and at first we had a problem with the electric at our site but within minutes we met Bucky Hawkins the maintenance man and he had us fixed right up. He was so cordial and super friendly throughout our stay. The campgrounds were completely full and there were 3000 people on the river Saturday but the staff was very organized and friendly. My favorite place to Cabrew. (Canoeing +drinking brew). I love this place. They have a great little store too if you forgot something (I always do.) You can drive up to the store and pay for your campsite, canoe rental (or rafts). Then I go set up our tent organize all our crap that miraculously somehow gets jacked up between St. Louis and here (only an hour drive). We usually have a few moments to play a couple games of bean bag or something like that before loading on the bus to get dropped off at a remote spot to start the float. You can take as long as you like (within reason) to stop along the river and chill, swim, eat lunch, etc. At the end of the journey you are back at the resort and usually we stay in the river and toss the football jump off the banks and all that. Finally, it's time to camp, listen to some tunes, and make memories with your crew. read more

The infamous Huzzah! I absolutely love this campground. The sites are spacious, affordable, and most consist of plenty of shaded areas. They also have several sites right along the river. The cabins are also very nice and spacious. The staff is super friendly and very accommodating especially for special events like NBFD. The site comes equipped with the 'country' store in case you forget anything or drink up all your liquor/beer on the first night. Floaters....you can choose from either a canoe, raft, kayak, or tube. I personally enjoy tubin' but to each their own! Huzzah is a great retreat not far from the metro St. Louis area. read more

This review is based on customer service. I feel like any floating resort in Missouri has a nice river and scenery. The amenities at the campsite were nice. I've been to a dozen other smaller resorts and always had a better experience. First, all the cashiers were new. It was one of the first weekends in the season, and they'll learn more as they go. That's fine, but they couldn't answer my questions. The manager came over and she took forever to answer simple questions like, "where will we putting in," "do you want us to check in early or right on time," and "is the water high or low?" (It was very low; we had to drag our raft every 10 minutes, but she said it wasn't bad.) It just seemed like no one really cared about us customers. We enjoyed our float, and the canoes were very nice. The campsite was another story. This place is on the pricey side, which is fine, however the campsite is rough amd uneven, which when you're trying to level out campers, is a huge issue. We have been places where the terrain was far from perfect for campers, but they were also significantly lower in price. Their whole debacle with deposits is another story. They state it once in an email that to get your deposit back you must check out, which is not the norm for most campsites. That's fine, but not once was it told to anyone in our group of 15 when we were signing in that in order to get a deposit back we must check out, nor was it stated in any of the paperwork we signed. Luckily someone in our group noticed that no one had recieved their $40 deposit back, so luckily we can try to rectify our situation. It just makes me wonder how many others have missed this and how much money Huzzah is raking in on people not realizing this. read more

We hadn't stayed here in YEARS because of the horrible customer service here. My husband always says they find out a way to screw you, and they will do it. And they will never ever issue a refund or discount for a problem that is their fault. I booked this weekend back in May and all the other resorts we'd rather go to were booked up in the cabins. Huzzah had the Vista View cabin available for this weekend so we took that. Pricey, but a great view. We had 8 people in the 8 person cabin but the problem we came upon Friday night was one of the couch beds was very broken. The guys tried to fix it and get the frame back on the hinges in the middle but the middle would just collapse by putting your hand pressure on it. So we had 2 people stuck sleeping on the floor. Then night number 2, we tried to make the best of it and they pitched a tent instead. I told the friends that I'd bring up the problem to the front desk since the booking was under my name and when I did I was told that the couch was fine before we stayed there and I was accused of my group breaking it. We are not the young wild crowd and actually prefer to stay away from that. We would never do such a thing and kept that house in perfect condition. I was appalled and got my husband to come and talk to the manager who accused me. The manager talked to my husband in a nicer tone that he did to me, of course, but said he would not discount the friends who had to sleep on the floor and in a tent because we should have came and told them Friday night. I guess he was right, I should have went and told them, but I just thought it wouldn't be a problem to get a discounted rate for the people who didn't have a bed to sleep in! My husband asked him "Oh, do you have extra couches to switch out if one gets broken?" And the manager said "Yes." We are pretty sure he is lying.... you just have couches laying around? My husband said it looked like the thing had been broken a long time. They don't care, they are a money-eating machine at Huzzah Valley Resort. As long as they get your money, your satisfaction is not a grantee and they DO NOT care. Also, our $50 refund (deposit) became a $50 charge. Happens EVERY TIME. I've never had issues with Bass, Garrisons or Ozark Outdoors. Go there instead! read more

We had no phone service at our campsite and pulled into the parking lot to call for help and this guy from the company came out and yelled at her for stopping. I went on a camping/float trip at Huzzah Valley Resort. It was great! The staff is very friendly and helpful. The staff in the store was friendly and told us about special deals that were happening. The float assistants gave us a great brief tutorial (none of the members of our group had ever been on a float trip before). They helped us out and showed us how to do it. The campsite were had was beautiful! It was right on the river with its own little beach. Also, the camp ground is very safe. Security patrols at night and in the evenings. Also, there is a quieter family camping side and a louder side for parties. read more

Site was advertised as shaded. Sites 104 - 121 are not shaded. Small crowded sites. Price is really too high. You have to drive to the one bathroom available in the family camping area. Circuit breaker 30amp kept tripping. Poison oak along all river accesses. read more
