The Gallery owner noticed us leaving and indicated more was in back. We politely said no thank you and made our way out to find our friend. The gallery owner got very disturbed and yelled out "Fine, get out of here anyway" it was pretty disturbing. We then walked out to wait on our friend and sat on the bench outside to text our location to our friend. The man then came out and took the bench --just so we could-not sit. We left the front of the store because he obviously misread the situation and was acting erratically. After we found out friend we Noted the bench had been replaced. The gallery owner had most likely had a bad day but his reaction and attitude will not make us want to return. Very sad since we were quite excited to see his work. His loss. He might consider getting a retail person to take care of the store.

It almost feels more like a beautiful museum, and I mean that in the best way possible. These are not just paintings by local artists, this collection is the best of the best western artists, most who have long since passed away. Incredible to view, mesmerizing at times. We are not even fans of western art, but the experience of touring this gallery was breathtaking! The staff (a woman that day) was intimately familiar with each piece, and knew it's history as well as the details of the artist. As she explained, many of the pieces came from private collections, and will likely return to a private collection when purchased! So wonderful to be able to see them "in transition!" The gallery also has a nice collection of vintage southwestern blankets. Parsons Fine Art is definitely an art collector's paradise. But, even us novices thoroughly enjoyed the visit! Our visit did come with one disappointment that I hope the museum can help future visitors avoid..... A heads up for Mark Maggiori fans: * My husband and I drove two days from California hoping to see an original Mark Maggiori painting. * The Taos Art Museum is one of the first places that appears on Google when searching for where to view his work in Taos. * The museum's website and Google listing also suggested that his artwork was part of the collection. Unfortunately, after speaking with a docent, we learned that the museum hasn't displayed a Mark Maggiori painting in many years! They then referred us to try Parsons Gallery of the West, but they didn't have any of his work either. The gallery manager explained that Mark Maggiori is now representing himself and is no longer exhibiting locally. I completely understand that exhibitions change over time, but I would kindly encourage the museum to update its website and work with Google to correct this information. It would save other visitors from making a special trip expecting to see artwork that is no longer on display. In the end, I learned I probably should have called ahead, but I also trusted the museum's website and Google's information. Hopefully this review helps the next Mark Maggiori fan avoid the same disappointment. Despite that, the museum itself is well worth visiting. The Fechin House alone is an incredible piece of art and history!
