Aside from the great people I've met & become close friends with, Core has kept me strong & even improved my strength, & I'm no spring chicken! Last summer I broke my ankle in 3 places. I did a good job. I improved at a rate well past my & my doctor's expectations. I sincerely owe that to Core. My physical therapists often commented on my rapid progress. At 70 + I was progressing better than many at 3 decades my junior, according to my PT's. I'm not competing, but I KNOW that without my time at Core, I would have been in for a very, very long recuperation. Eric, my trainer at Core consulted with my PT's & I was back at Core before I knew it. He's helped me through many issues of the "ageing" body.- rotator cuff, the broken ankle, various muscle issues. I'm very active, have horses, I need to stack hay, & I want to keep riding. Core has kept me as strong as I can be, and mobile. That's all I can ask for as I age (gracefully I hope, instead of "Calamity Pat") I have all the clothes & "things" I need - what better way to spend my money on my strength, balance, and mobility? None. That's the answer. Thought I knew a lot about exercise - Pilates, yoga, ran 10 & 5K's, riding etc. I didn't know as much as I thought I did. I'm still learning, thanks to Core. Obviously, I cannot recommend them highly enough. Take their trial offer. For the record I do not own any stock in Core Health & Fitness.

The best individualized workout programs, great atmosphere, & wonderful CORE members. My goal is to stay as strong and mobile for as long as I can, & CORE is making it happen. I did this balance move on a Bosu ball for a challenge at CORE 7 yrs ago (that's not CORE in the background, it's my studio). I'm going to try to do it ONCE more, this year before I turn 71. I'll try to get an updated photo, if I can't do it, I'll retire this photo. Can't rest on my laurels, such as they be. They're stuck with me, I can't imagine not being a member of CORE. Do yourself a favor & try their introductory offer, as I did 10 years ago! Be GOOD to YOURSELF!

Wife and I were in town for the CrossFit Games in Madison. We wanted a gym that, if we could…read moreactually find it, would be a "hybrid" between CrossFit and a regular gym. Holy crap we found it - literally - with Hybrid Athletic Club! Want to do CrossFit stuff with turf, sleds to push/pull, ropes (both hanging and battle), dead balls, wallballs, a rig, GHDs, rowers, you name it? Got it. Want to do standard bodybuilding with dumbbells, barbells, basic selectorized machines or regular cardio on ellipticals or treadmills or step mills or an air bike or ....? Got it! The two women who own it are super nice and it's obvious they are REALLY trying to do well by their members. In the mind blown category, as if what I already said isn't enough, one of the owners, who is OBVIOUSLY a MUCH better person than me, remembered my name from the previous day. Huh? Yep. She came over to me as I was foam rolling and said "Hi David" - think about that, I'm in town for three days, I'll never have a full on membership there due to where I live, and she remembered my name. Hell, I go to the LA Fitness 3x/week and I can't even get the counter person to say high when they are HOLDING the fob scanner 18 inches away from me! It gets even better. They are a 24/7 facility with fob access. So we got a fob, paid the very reasonable fee for our three days of use and we were all set - we could come and go as we pleased, any day or time we wanted. That's almost weird it's so good - since it wasn't a globo Anytime Fitness and the like. The 2nd day I saw something I've NEVER seen in my 33 years as a gym rat and probably NEVER will again. There was a CrossFit class going on AND there was figure/bodybuilding/physique posing clinic going on in other areas of the gym. Think about THAT - CrossFit and physique co-existing in the same building? Yep - and since I love both it was pretty freakin cool to see. We will definitely be back to this facility when we return next year - this is OUR gym while we're in town now. We just wish there was such a place in Springfield. If I had more than two thumbs I'd give it more than two thumbs up - same goes for the five stars.

Fair enough and my apologies for overlooking that by including my update in the Fit Fresh review. Hybrid shows real results via several ads that run in the WSJ. I was willing to pay the cost to join for those results in the time frame I had to complete. The bonus: I had a friend complete the program and although he's male (and men lose weight faster) I saw the same results in him and took his feedback to heart. So I was really excited to start the meal plan first and complete my bootcamp contract out then go over to Hybrid. My personal experience: The place appears to be clean and well kept. Hybrid Fitness apparently excutes the BCOR bootcamp committment in this area until someone else is able to handle the downtown/east/suburbian areas. I signed up with Bcor anticipating the start of my experience at the end of July 2012. Because of my previous experience and most recent email contact I decided this may not be smart to attend. I got unnerved after receiving a Yelp email that the Fit Fresh review received a response, but it was removed (no real issue there) + I received a harrasing message referring to my review via my inbox. So combine that inbox message with the removed message - call me smart to be nervous and suscipicous. Now, I'm over my fears of the Yelp stalker or at least the fears don't outweigh my hope in meeting my new deadline before having to report back to the unit. To that end, I'll report back in 90days how the workouts go.

There are all ages and fitness levels in the classes and everyone gets a great workout every time. It's not a competitive atmosphere-- somewhere between the "honor where your body is" vibe of a yoga studio and "drag this tire across the parking lot with you teeth, you pansy" vibe of Crossfit. They're not selling any protein powders or branded shit-- it's just about having a good workout and pushing yourself. FITNESS: you can do 1-1s or small group workouts. Small groups have anywhere between 2 and 12 other humans and most classes are a circuit type training which I love because it's not boring and the time goes fast. Lots of props around, but simply used so you're spending half the time figuring out how to work equipment. Are you new to fitness? Okay you'll be sore AF, but it'll be fun. Are you a workout queen? Whatever, you'll be sore too or else you're not trying. SPACE: The gym space itself is cool-- there are multiple room for different size groups and 1-1 sessions. Windows for the nature people, barnwood floors if you jam in the yoga room, and a non-contrived industrial decor vibe throughout. The bathrooms are always clean and comfortable. GOD BLESS YOU ORANGE SHOE FOR PROVIDING TOWELS. And hair ties. STAFF: I also like the trainers, which is probably worth mentioning. Everyone does a great and consistent job of being positive and also motivating. I hate being yelled at when I'm working out since it's hard enough without some manic workout king yelling about how you can do better than that. The trainers here can certainly deliver an ass kicking, but they also smile and say "good work" and adjust your form and other helpful stuff like that. The good team is obviously a testament to good management and training. They feel like a true team, but not in a gross culty way where you if you're new to the gym it's going to be weird like there's already a dynamic established and you're an outsider. Try it! Just don't start with Brent's class on day 1. ;)
