I can't say enough positive things about Tony, his work and his business practices. He and his team have worked on my house for the past 20 years from our original whole house renovation to upgrades and updates as needed. He built out a full basement for us which included bedroom, bathroom, laundry room, utility room, closets and even a real cedar closet with actual cedar planks including the ceiling. He has replaced every window in the house with Andersen windows and even added French doors, sliding doors and a box window. He changed every door in the house to solid six panel doors and assisted in the family room and office built in by installing them. He build the most incredible custom walk in closet converting a bedroom into a spectacular use of space. He has renovated 3 bathrooms and kept them updated as needed most recently replacing a honed marble threshold in the shower and reinstalling the custom glass doors. The most recent improvement was the replacement of our gas water heaters since the old ones were starting to leak. He not only upgraded what we had, had the new ones delivered and installed all in one day in order to get us back up and running with little inconvenience. He has installed whole house water filtration, added instant hot and a garbage disposal making sure we have all the modern conveniences a home should have. He treats our home as if it is his own. On a personal note he has seen my children grow up and we have seen his son join his business and grow and learn from the best. Tony and the Functional Spaces team worked with me to completely gut and renovate an entire house. We removed and installed new walls, steel beams were installed, 3 complete bathroom were redone, a full kitchen renovation, a bedroom was turned into the main walk in closet with custom built ins, new AC, new heated engineered wood floors, a full redo of the electrical system and lighting plan for the entire house, new staircase, windows and siding plus so much more was done to make this home stunning! The team worked seamlessly with the architect and the inspectors to make sure the permits were all in place. Tony was a pleasure to work with from start to finish. He was patient in answering my numerous questions and concerns along the way. Gus (the main carpenter) was incredible in installing custom built in shelves in various areas. He is a true artist!! The whole team of guys were pleasant and knowledgeable and fun to work with. I actually missed seeing them everyday when the house was complete! I was very disappointed by Roman and Tony. Initially they were helpful and accommodating. I am still waiting for them to exchange a light fixture which they put in which I did not approve. They were supposed to replace a back window. I have called Tony on his cell daily; he does not get back to me. Of course, I was foolish enough to pay them in advance. I had work done last year. Everything went well until a few little things needed to be fixed. I was assured it would be taken care of. Four Months to Install a Vanity Correctly- Four employees and four different days. We purchased a new vanity at Functional Spaces (or as we called them, Dysfunctional Spaces) along with a faucet set. We purchased the granite counter at another store. We paid Functional Spaces to hook up the new faucets after the granite and sink were installed. Work began in July and finished in October for what should have been a simple job. Functional Spaces dropped off the vanity then the granite and sink were installed by another company. Functional Spaces sent two employees to install the faucet, make the proper cuts for the faucets, add the doors and knobs. There two employees were there for three hours. Upon my arrival home, I noticed that the knobs were hanging (the screws used were too small for the knobs), the hot water was dripping and they did not silicone the bases of the faucets. I went to Ace that evening to get the proper screws. A call was placed to Functional Spaces and we advised them of the problems. They sent another employee to inspect the work. This employee stated the employees did a "sh__ job". He placed silicone on the faucet bases and claimed that the hot water was a pressure problem. There were no issues with the hot water in the shower or the cold water pressure so we had our doubts. Another call was placed to Functional Spaces and messages were left for the owner, Tony. We did not receive a return call. We went to the store and spoke to an employee named Brian, who advised that he would give a message to Tony. Tony sent the same employee, who he said was a master plumber. He inspect the hoses and faucet. Again, he claimed that it was a pressure problem and everything was installed correctly. Tony was called again and he claimed that the problem was on our end. His master plumber stated everything was fine. We asked for the name of the master plumber and license number. Tony then claimed that he works under his contracting license and was not a master plumber. After speaking with a local plumber, he advised that the contractor must have hooked up something incorrectly. Functional Spaces refused to address the issue any further. Therefore, we protested part of the charge on our credit card since we had a drip for hot water in the sink. Tony G called after being notified about the protested charge and stated that he wanted to see the problem. This could have been addressed sooner if Tony G was willing to come the eight blocks from his store to our house, three months prior. Tony G advised that the hoses installed by his employees were defective. He was quite annoyed at his so called master plumber. He went to a plumbing supply store and purchased new hoses which were installed. Finally, we had hot water pressure in our sink. The install started in July and was not fixed until just before Halloween. We received notification from Citibank regarding the reversal of the credit charge which was fine. On the forms, Tony G claims that we never notified him of the problems until October. I called Tony G since he lied on the forms and he said that he need to protect his business with Visa. He then became belligerent. Tony G then advised that he gave us new knobs for all our aggravation. If you use Functional Spaces, expect the worse, hope for the best and always pay by credit card. You may need that leverage to have them return to fix problems caused by them. read more

Functional Spaces helped my family design and finish my basement with a full size bathroom, extra bed room and laundry room space. They also helped us remodel our master bathroom. The FS team was very helpful in arranging the construction around our needs and schedule. Because we only had one bath in the house, we needed the extra bathroom built before we could remodel the master bathroom. They were able to prioritize the basement bathroom work and then simultaneously worked on finishing the basement and master bath. The level of quality(top tier fixtures) and craftsmanship is equal to or better than the work I have seen from the larger remodeling business on Long Island, at a much lower price. I would definitely recommend you take a look at them if you are looking into a high quality remodel, but are not interested in paying large company pricing. read more

Where to begin, we met with Roman in February for a May start date. We discussed permits, plumbing and design for a small bathroom in our home. The one star is because they have all the fixtures, flooring and cabinetry in their store front. We picked our design and got a price thinking it included permits and a plumber, and signed on the dotted line. A 2 week job turned into a 4 week plus job, that started in mid June. The Foreman Tony forgot to order the window, which delayed things. Then he put Sean on our job, who is the rainman of construction, he kept bragging how good he was and said if we need any outside jobs to call him. The tile work on the left wall was 2 inches lower than the right wall and it had to be redone. The light switch was put in upside down and when the cold weather hit the radiator leaked. Now I know why Roman told me "We follow up for 5 years after the job is done, any problems call us." With that red flag I should have run! The icing on the cake is the Kohler soaker tub we had installed cracked after 2 years! Tony did come with a repairman, they had to cut a hole in my bedroom wall to access the tub and reinforce it. 2 months after that it cracked again in a different location. When I questioned Roman on the crap tub, he defended the Kohler product. The repairman told me this common place for Kohler products. I called Kohler to ask for my money back and they said they needed the invoice. When I called Functional Spaces to get the invoice, they told me they would call Kohler and get them to pay for the repair, that was in August, it is now November 2021 and I am without a tub! PS-they never got permits because they said since we didn't change the footprint it wasn't necessary, but the final price didn't change. All I wanted was a functional space and all I have now is a depleted bank account and poor outcome. Selection of materials, colors and mfgs are top quality products. Workmanship is of the utmost importance . It can not be surpassed. Functional Spaces turned my kitchen from drab to fab! Tony and Roman are skillful craftsmen who take pride to see that their customer's needs are met. We had come down to the finishline of our kitchen makeover and the refrigerator we ordered from a local business didn't fit. Tony just happened to drop in to see the final phase of the job and took an interest to assist the installers with cutting my countertop to fit the refrigerator.
