Before diving in, I will say that the front desk staff at Verbout is very kind and they were as…read morehelpful as they could be with my situation. They heard my frustrations, however, that is not enough for me to trust Verbout for anything in the future.
I don't typically write reviews but I do want to speak on my experience working with one of the CPA's on Verbout's team. I am a young adult and a new business owner and I started working with Kerry last year on my taxes and my first year filing as an LLC hoping she could help since taxes aren't my area of expertise.
My first year filing taxes with her, I went to my meeting and she was over 15 minutes late. That time wasn't added to my appointment due to their running late, it was just cut short. She rushed through the meeting, the staff came in and warned her time was running out, and frankly the appointment was a waste of time because she was unsure if I should be filing for sales tax so we spent a majority of the appointment debating this until she decided I should. I ended up going home, doing some research and talking to some other business owners in the same industry and they all came to the same conclusion that sales tax was not applicable for me. I reached out to her to discuss my concern of the incorrect filing. She called me and told me I shouldn't "listen to my friends". We had to reach out to the state for a final verdict. Turns out myself and my "friends" were correct. The filing was reversed and the appointment was pretty much a waste of time and money.
This year I decided to go back to Kerry because I figured it would be a smoother experience considering we figured out the sales tax snafu. However, I am sad to say it has been an incredibly disappointing experience. We had a virtual meeting for our appointment that I would say went well. There were a few documents she suggested I add to help me out. I got off the call and promptly got ahead of those things (adding most the same day). I got my part done. From that point, I had not only waited well over a month to get any kind of substantial update from her, but she ignored questions entirely that I would ask in my emails (mainly ones asking for transparency with her charges for working with her), we scheduled a phone meeting that I cleared my client meetings for and I never received the call, I never received a follow-up on why she didn't call, and from that point on she just said "working on it" over email and that was essentially the only communication I was given.
An update from this point (a few weeks after writing the first half of this review): I had to call the front office for updates a few times before one of the women said she would force me onto her schedule and that if she missed that phone call again I could continue to call her so I could be placed on her schedule until she finally answered. I don't fault the front office for this, as they were working to help me, but I do find it unprofessional that it would even get to that point with one of their CPA's on staff. I finally got onto a final call with her where she said she had questions for me before she could finish her job, but those questions were just making sure I uploaded the forms she originally requested I upload (That I uploaded 1.5 months prior, which tells me she didn't look at our portal or messages at all since our original call). She offered me a small discount for the inconvenience and that was that. Even after my taxes with her were completed, I had a few follow-up questions and again was given a flippant response. After deciding I wouldn't receive any proper communication from her, I shared my experience with her and requested all future appointments to be canceled. She didn't address any of my feedback, seemingly had no care that I had a poor client experience, and I just received confirmation of my canceled appointment for 2026.
I am very new to business ownership, it is an intimidating world in general to be stepping into as the first in my family, and maybe this office would be better suited for people who are well into adulthood and have a little more understanding/may garner a little more respect being older. I am not naive to the fact that there is much for me to learn. When it comes to finding a CPA that is going to help me as a new business owner and young adult, this was not the place nor the person. It's been incredibly stressful receiving any kind of communication, I've been talked down to like I am a child with "friends" when talking about industry professionals in my field, and I've been ignored and ghosted when it comes to meetings, emails, and questions pertaining the services I am paying for.
Like I said, maybe this is a good office for those who don't have a business, work regular W2 jobs, and have a more simple filing. I had an awful experience and will not be returning (neither will my family that were previously long-standing clients) or recommending Verbout to anyone I know.
