Interesting experience but great workout. My friend and I…read moredo lots of drop in fitness classes. I'd say we are both pretty fit. She is a personal trainer and I am signed up for two different fitness classes throughout the week so the pace of the class worked well for us and was a great challenge. While it was a great workout, I can't even tell you what was going on in that 50 minutes. The music was unbearably loud. The instructor's mic was even louder and all any of it sounded like was noise. The coach was fine, but he didn't really coach? Everyone was expected to be doing the same thing, which is unrealistic. From my perspective, if you don't run, there's no point in taking the class because Barry's coaches the treadmill for runners only? The most unique part of our Barry's journey was the fact that no one wiped down equipment... no one wiped down their treadmill after we switched to the floor and I understood this until the END. I assumed we all would wipe EVERYTHING down at the end. Nope. Everyone just walked out. My friend and I stayed after to change and freshen up, but I never saw anyone go in and wipe any equipment down. That's kind of gross but what do I know? We should we wiping down equipment throughout class just to be safe rather than sorry. I know I would be open to taking another class, but still would love to know how these classes are formatted because it feels like the coach is just shouting random things and you kinda have to keep up or you're screwed.

Seacoast sports clubs include three gyms. This one (Portsmouth Athletic club), Great bay athletic…read moreclub in Newmarket and the Greenleaf facility also in Portsmouth. I like these gyms a lot because of all the group fitness classes offered. Step, combat, boxing, pilates, spin, pump, yoga, Zumba and swimming. They are more fun than the traditional treadmill or weight lifting. Zumba and combat are my favorite. Zumba is just like dancing and you don't feel like you are working out and combat is empowering. At this location they do something called smart start where if you participate in 20 classes in 5 weeks you get a prize like a free massage or an hour with a personal trainer. All the staff is really nice and helpful. Some of the things in the gym could definitely be upgraded. Some of the mats are torn and need replacing and the boxing equipment is pretty beat up but still does the trick. I recommend buying your own mats for yoga or other classes for any gym just because they get used a lot and you will feel more comfortable with your own mat. The womens locker room has recently been upgraded. There are showers and a sauna and a lot of lockers (bring your own lock though) and a room with big mirrors for you to fix your hair and makeup after a workout. Overall this place is great and for the price if you are into group fitness it is worth it because of all the options you have to choose from. If you are 24 or under get your membership before you turn 25 because the rate goes up. Get it cheap now and it stays that way.
