Would I feel judged if I couldn't handle the workout? From the very first class I learned that everyone there is at different fitness levels. I couldn't handle the workout as prescribed, but the coaches at Artisan work with you at your level and give you scaled (modified) motions so you can work up to more advanced techniques. I could handle that workout. What truly sold me on Artisan however was how comfortable I felt working out there. I have never felt like I didn't belong, that I was embarrassing myself, or that I was being judged. The coaches, to their credit, have a real knack for emboldening thier members with a positive attitude, and that alone is worth the price of admission. Add to that the care coaches take to adjust your form on a personal level, and a culture of family. Simply put, if I move away from Dothan, I'm going to have my work cut out for me replacing Artisan.

People know your name here! It's so awesome. I highly recommend trying it even if you've never boxed (like me). There is a good mixture of boxing and HIIT workouts in between the boxing stations. If you don't care for boxing, I'd say try it anyway for the people. You will have so much fun and have an outlet to get a workout in and decompress!

After the warm up fun we went through some great Snatch progression to ensure that our class was on point with with our form. I'm always happy to cover the ins and outs of lifts that we will be doing in our workouts; performing these drills makes me realize that for so many years I've been lifting all wrong and with no true guidance. Jacks hospitality was top notch and only surpassed by his coaching ability I will definitely be coming back next time I'm in town. Crossfit Above The Bar was the only one of three gyms that I called and/or emailed that actually contacted me back. So they were the winner and I'm feeling really lucky that's where I ended up because it was such a great experience. Jack greeted me and got me set up quickly, then introduced me to Gabby and asked her to pair up with me and show me around. It was Saturday so we did a team WOD and it was a great workout. Everyone at this gym was so friendly and hospitable... I can't say enough about how great they were. Sometimes it can be a challenge just to walk into a box and feel like you're part of the crew, but that was not the case. From now on, when I'm in town visiting family I will make Crossfit Above the Bar my gym away from home.

Oh if someone takes a #2 the WHOLE GYM WILL SMELL IT ohhh and hear it cause the walls are cut short. Have fun working out in something that smells like a sewer They have a 'special' room in the back where you have to pay extra $$ for something stupid. It's great cause if you're looking for certain weights they were prob taken back there by idiots and left so good luck trying to get to them at 0200 or any other time. They take everything back there and never bring them back to the open area. So you're really paying to get the weights you need cause the staff will refuse to go back there and get them for you. Weights are a mess, equipment waits to be replaced for about 6mths and they refuse to get or replace equipment that is legit FALLING APART! I'd rather drive all the way back to base and waste gas then go to this crap of a gym. I could provide a better gym in my garage than this place.

I when in to cancel my membership today, because the 30 day cancellation notice which means I will…read morepay for another month, they wanted to charge me for the upcoming Maintenance fee of $50.00. I said flat out I will not pay it. Ended up walking out. When straight home and by the time I got on the computer to contact my bank, they had already started the charging process for the monthly charge and the Maintenance fee, which is 3 days early. So I pull out my paperwork from joining and it states clearly the date the Maintenance fee will charged and its outside of this 30 day cancellation period. As I looked through my bank acct (my bad that I've haven't checked it every month) I noticed that from the time I joined till December 2017 they had consistently moved up my payment date so I basically lost 1/2 month during that time frame. Then when I turned 60, this year they were suppose to decrease my monthly fee. Well they did for the one month, then they went back up on my fees. So buyer beware, and make sure you have looked over your contract before you go to cancel your membership, because they will cheat you.

I am a very shy person and have a hard time in new social situations, but this was seriously the friendliest, most welcoming group of people. The gym overall has such a chill vibe, but the energy is definitely there to get you through the WOD. Everyone was so supportive of each other and constantly motivating. Your pass is only good for 7 days from the date of purchase, you have to download a couple of apps to reserve your spot (which is required) and see the WOD, which is released at 5 PM the day prior.
