Had lunch at The Cracker Shack on a recent Saturday afternoon after visiting Babcock Ranch. Adorable little cafe that sells some local products such as honey, salad dressings, seasonings and some nick-nacks in attached gift shop. I love these types of local eateries, and I would have liked to have been able to give a higher star-rating but my food was just mediocre. I had an egg salad sandwich on toasted white bread. It was served with a small bag of Lays potato chips, and choice of pasta salad or cole slaw. I opted for the pasta salad. The egg salad and the pasta salad both had the same characteristic - very runny. Thus, my 3-star rating. My husband had french fries with his lunch which were delicious! They were the crinkle cut ones and cooked just to perfection! Optional indoor or outdoor seating. There's a little produce market on-site and I was thrilled to find Dakin Farms Chocolate milk! No need to drive to Sarasota for it! read more

Once you've had fruit and vegetables right off the vine, you know there isn't anything quite as good. We stopped at 31 Produce for strawberries and tomatoes and we were not disappointed. The strawberries were so sweet it was like eating a dessert. The tomatoes had great fragrance and taste and we enjoyed every bite of their juicy goodness. You can choose to pick yourself or they have a small market with ready to purchase produce available, as well. You can even get something to eat at the Cracker Shack at the other end of their market but we didn't check it out this visit. read more

31 produce is a go to for outdoor activity these days. And since that is sometimes all we can (should?) do...it's nice when it's done well. We normally come out for strawberry picking and blueberry season. It's most certainly large enough to bring groups or big families and still have enough produce to pick. I'd probably recommend not over picking just because not only is it pricey but potentially wasteful. We had to toss a little bit of what we got last time. They also have the pet feeding area which is nice for my kids. It's a bit of a walk from the entrance and then the fish pond is a bit underwhelming. You are unfortunately too far to really throw the food to the fish if you're a kid and then you can't really see the fish either. The goats were super friendly and cute tho. Overall fun if you're ok with paying a bit extra for strawberries and feeding some animals. read more

What started out as a nice day ended with a bad taste. There was a younger girl who was pretty nice and pointed us to the U pick section. I asked what was out there and she listed off greens, tomatoes, blossoms, peppers,.. explained that the strawberries weren't ready yet (despite the website saying they were which was my main motivation for going that far) No worries.. walked out and the rows weren't marked. There was a lot of rotten stuff all over the place- In between the rows making it hard to get to. Stepped in a lot of rotten tomatoes.. But afterall, I was in a field of sorts. I did wear old shoes. Also a lot of overgrowth at the beginning of the rows. So... I filled my little bucket with 3 small acorn squash, a couple yellow squash, a little bag of cherry tomatoes (about 25) one little onion, 2 eggplants, and about 5 stalks of kale. I noticed some blossoms on the squash and picked a few of those. Got back and waited about 5min. in line. Got up to the counter and the older lady said "oh god" I thought jeez did I get too greedy with my little bucket? Emphasis on little. I asked what was wrong and she just huffed like she was mad and asked the younger girl if she could ring up people who were paying cash. (FWIW I had cash too) The older lady started ringing my stuff up and got to the blossoms and said another oh god and started to count..by 2's... She was charging me $2 each. I was so shocked I said I had no idea they were that much and didn't want all of them.. she said "too bad I have to charge you for all of them". I've never seen them cost that much.. Why couldn't she just put them in the refrigerator? They keep at least 2 days. Not to mention all the rotten ones I saw in the field! With the 12 blossoms I left paying 40 bucks total for that little bit. I didn't get a receipt, it would have been nice to have to compare prices and just see what things weighed.. or cost. Needless to say, I won't be going back. There are closer farms anyway. Really bummed me out. read more

I have never eaten at the Cracker Shack but I have done the U-pick. I have gotten absolutely beautiful vegetables and fresh strawberries from this Farm in season. They are very reasonably priced and their fields are kept up nicely so you can pick through your own vegetables. I'm actually kind of sad that it's summer and they don't grow in the summer but I'll be back in October to start picking again. Totally worth it Oct-may. If you pick them right off the vine they last for weeks at a time. And they offer a wide variety at least four different kinds of tomatoes, squash of different varieties, eggplant, bell peppers, hot peppers, broccoli, cauliflower, etc. Great hidden gem in Ft. I will never go to any of their events again. I just drove 40 mins out there because they had Easter egg hunts by age group so I thought my 2 year old had a shot. I get there and within minutes it was cleared out because they allowed parents help and kids were walking around with 2-3 bags and other had absolutely none. It was so unorganized and such a waste. Shame on them and the other parents letting a 2 year old go home empty handed. read more

What can't you do here? Bought some papayas trees. Got some fresh produce. And grabbed one of the better burgers we've had in a while. Nice little roadside stop on 31 for lunch or produce/snacks. We get by about once/month for lunch. read more

BEST LOCAL VEGETABLES IN THE COUNTY So many of the fruits & vegetables in Florida come from the industrial farms around Immokalee and Plant City that it is difficult to find anything that actually tastes good. Certainly the Publix and Sweetbay grocery stores don't carry them. That's why this place is such a breath of fresh air. They actually grow what they sell. A miracle. I'm really not sure why there are so many negative reviews. I think ppl rated it harsher than necessary or maybe I'm too generous, but I had a great time. After much research, this was the only farm the offered a wide variety of veggies and fruit to pick and had many activities for children. The vegetables were plentiful, some more in season than others which is not unusual considering it's almost January. I was able to pick strawberries, mini pumpkin, yellow squash, spaghetti squash, green tomatoes (gonna fry them), a huge eggplant, kale, chile, green peppers... The petting zoo was cute for the kids and the animals seemed well maintained. They also had a mining area for kids. The one downfall was the cafe at the location. The food sucked, you're better off going elsewhere. read more

We moved to Babcock Ranch in November. Cracker Shack is about 8 minutes away and until today, we never had a meal there. Many neighbors have and they all loved it. Tonight, we went there and we were 100% thrilled with our dinners!!! So excited to return! We had amazing servers too. Everything was cooked to perfection and tasted fabulous. A bottle of wine cost 12.00... so reasonable and so good! We ordered their pork line special and our other entree were their crab cakes.. both were great! So happy we went! Loved coming out to the Cracker Shack Cafe here on property. Used to have the best cooked vegetables. Not so much on this visit. Definitely not the same cook. Cooked cabbage very bland. Green beans very bland. Meatloaf also not quite same today as in the past. Normally a solid 4 star. Not today. Service was good as usual. read more

I have been here on several occasions. They have such potential but they don't seem to take care of the fruits. I live over off Bayshore and love to juice so I like fresh veggies and it seems like every time I have gone to this place they have rotten produce and it reeks of rotteness. Rabbit Run Farms, Buckingham Farms and if you can travel down to Bonita to Farmer Mikes it's worth it. read more

Called before making the trip out here as requested on their website. "Oh yeah, we have strawberries to pick" when I asked. Got there later in the day and got the rudest welcome. "We call it a strawberry hunt". "Good luck". "You've got 30 minutes". Nowhere on their website does it say fields close before posted hours of 5:30! Claimed in the time it took me to get there field was pick dry. No Way! This was the poorest maintained strawberry patch I've ever seen. Plants shriveled to nothing and overtaken by weeds. Probably hadn't had any irrigation in a month. Don't waste your time or gas. You can find other places where the staff will treat their customers with respect and be grateful you're there. read more

I was not impressed with the quality of the You Pick produce, but I would have been ok with it had the staff been remotely pleasant. Multiple staff were uncaring, unhelpful, and downright rude. They REALLY do not like children here in a big way. We were trying to make the best of it and were trying to ignore the nasty stank eyes we were getting from all the employees, but the final straw was when the cafe counter person rolled her eyes at another customer in reference to my children. Now, I understand my children can get a little loud and active, but honestly, I was basically in a cafeteria. This was not fine dining (seriously, they were serving frozen crinkle cut fries and hot dogs). The counter person could have done any of a number of things to facilitate our order, so that the children could get outside and get fed and we would have been happily on our way. Instead, she chose to be rude and unwelcoming. Her excuse for her poor behavior? "Well, we're busy." "I don't have children. (and you never should, with that attitude)." I do not need to pay good money to be insulted. It is a shame. I had decent experiences here in the past and used to tell other families about this place, but I won't return. If you want to support a wonderful local farm, go to Southern Fresh Farms instead. The family that owns it is absolutely wonderful and would do anything to make the customer experience a good one. And don't eat at 31 produce, go to Buckingham Farms instead. read more
