I used Gage Tree Service to limb ten trees to 7-9 ft hanging height. All the trees bordered on manicured, pristine, beautiful flowerbeds. Five men arrived with a chipping truck, axes, leaf blowers, rakes, chain saws, reticulating saws and every piece of tool or gear you could think of and worked non-stop from 3PM-8PM limbing trees and removed a 35-40 ft tree, including stump and roots. They worked together as a team, never took a break, did exactly as we wanted, didn't leave a twig or pinecone on the street, never hurt a flower and were polite, professional and totally impressive. I recommend Gage Tree Service for any tree work you need and will always use them in the future. The tree was cut down satisfactorily. However, I was specific that I needed to know when they were coming to do the work so I could notify renters (I don't live in the area); it wasn't until I got a call from the neighbor - "hey, can I have the wood?" that I knew it happened. I called and complained and was assured they would notify me, in the spring, when they would come and grind the stump (recommending not doing it after snow). You got it, they came and ground out the stump, after snow, without notifying me. I had no idea they ground out the stump and after getting the bill, only paid for the tree cut. They sent me a balance due notice - now, it's either pay-up or collections. Gage assures me they will come back if not satisfied in the spring. I do not recommend this business. read more

My mom needed to have three large (20-30 foot tall) cottonwoods removed from her front yard. She opted to use Gage Tree Service for this large undertaking. The crew arrived on time and they were very nice, which is always an added bonus. Within about three hours the crew had removed the trees, gotten rid of the stumps AND cleaned up the entire area (yard and street) so you would never even know they had been there. The front yard looked absolutely perfect after they were done. They smoothed over the area where they had augured out the stumps. I could not be any happier with their service. The pricing was quite fair, the crew was great, the clean up was perfect; Gage made this huge project painless. We will always turn to Gage in the future and highly recommend them!!! read more

Communication is next to non-existent. Return phone calls never happen. Phone messages left, disappear into cyberspace. Product is great, but I wish I had a better alternative. I splurged and spent multi-thousands of dollars on an l.e.d. tree installation, it was fantastic. The accolades stop there. As expected, with wind and time, tree strands go out, the tree grows unevenly, etc... To have a nice tree, you need follow up and at Gage, it is non existent. Over the past 6 winters, I've experienced Maddeningly, ( good word choice) follow up. I've spent half of each winter leaving my tree lights off because I can not get them to show up and use their bucket truck to access the fuses here and there that are 40 feet up there. Last year, I left messages starting off in september, phone calls starting in september, and in november finally got someone out. This month alone, I left a message, no call back. called over and over until I got someone, an appointment was made for a guy to come look at the tree 4 days ago, and call me back....nada, no call, no nothing. three days ago I made a call, and was told I'd be contacted withing the next few days to discuss re adjusting the tree. I've got money to spend. bucket truck by the hour? I don't care how much it is. 1,000 bucks a year for maintenance, I don't care. If I keep this tree for another 20 years, that is 20,000 dollars I represent in business. Who wants it? Anyone competing? join yelp and message me, I've got $ 20,000 dollars for you. Apparently, Gage doesn't want it. ------------- Update, yet another non returned phone call, talked to the answering service. Was told I'd get a call back. That was a week ago. ------------------------------------------ update, I rented my own cherry picker, glad i did, easy to use, cheaper than using gage. frankly , it was kind of fun. I discovered the guys wrapped the tree tight with the light strings, no hangars, no loose fitting, at the top of the tree the tree was growing into the wire, so tight. yes, I realize tree's grow, but you need someone to show up and work on the tree to accommodate growth. Also, rather than go up and down the tree, they went around and around, making it harder to adjust the strands looser to accommodate growth, poor foresight. the owners website quotes, accountability, customer satisfaction, making it right, returning phone calls. I have experienced none of the above. I suspect if you are like me and get a tree up, you will get put on a do not return phone calls list, as christmas trees are high maintenance and a pain in the arse. I would have paid to have someone work on this tree. Gage taught me it is easier and cheaper to rent a lift and do it yourself. its a 55 ft tree.....yes it was easy. do it yourself. your tree will love you ------------------------ look at all of their reviews. apparently tree removal is what they do best, good ratings.... call them for that. not your christmas tree. l read more

I called Gage Tree Service and asked for a cost estimate for some tree work needed at my home. They sent out an employee who provided a very questionable interpretation of the work needed. When I called the office to request a second opinion from a different Gage employee (I asked them to send over Scott, the owner), I was told that the man who came out was the only person at Gage Tree Service who does estimates. When I told the office staff that a competing company offered an estimate for work they would do AND disagreed with *every* comment the Gage employee made, the Gage response was along the lines of "big deal ... we don't care". My interpretation was that Gage Tree Service is not very professional and very uninterested in cultivating good customer relationships. My advice to you is: take your business elsewhere! read more

We have used Gage a few times over the years with the last time being this last summer to spray our trees. The service was adequate but may have been a bit over priced. We were calling for estimates for some additional tree work this summer. We scheduled the estimate from Gage for June and then called back for something else and was then told that they can't complete the work. No reason given but they wouldn't come do work for us. We paid our bill on time and do not recall any issues. We asked why and the woman on the phone sounded embarrassed and couldn't say why just that they can't. In short the work was okay, pricey, but okay. I just felt folks needed to know that they are really odd at least from our experience. I'd look elsewhere before going to them. We have had some really good estimates from other companies that have good reviews. Be safe everyone. read more

3 of my neighbors and I got together to do several large tree removal jobs on our street. Andy came out and spent quite a bit of time going through all our yards to come up with a competitive bid. We schedule a date for the job to be done and Ben called the night before to let us know we could expect him at 0900. He was right on time, professional, and quick. They had several days of work to do between the 4 homes. They completed it all in two days even with the stump grinder being in the shop on the first day. We have had a contract with Gage Tree Service now for several years For snow removal. They were good in the beginning but this last year their service has faltered. We have video cameras that show when they arrive. When we questioned their billing and the fact that they did not show up when the billing said they did. They had a big problem with it. When we didn't get the last bill and there was a no show for snow removal, I called to see what happened. They said a supervisor would call me back. They would not give me any other way to contact someone. A week later the supervisor finally called back to say that they had canceled contract. No notice, no communication and no solid reason why. In my opinion this is very bad business for the customer. I had no choice but to move on. I would not recommend this company for snow removal service. Not very professional. Scott Gage does not stand behind his customer service and you can not contact him as a business owner. read more

I NEVER post my feelings about companies, however I have also NEVER been so disgusted with the unprofessional manner in which Gage Tree Service has treated me. I paid last August to have my 300+ trees looked over for beetle kill. The guy who did the job was awesome, however no longer works there. Figured I'd be happy to do business with what I thought was a reputable company. Waited to hear from them in February for the schedule to spray. Never got a call. So I called in and set up a payment plan and started paying. I was told I'd hear from them for the spray date end of April or early May. Never got a call. Getting worried now. I told my neighbors how great Gage Tree Service was going to be and they decided to get their trees sprayed too. When they called Gage, Gage said they would spray my neighbors on the same day as me, but still no date. I have called multiple times over the last 4 weeks trying to find out when I was on the schedule. No answer from the ladies at the front desk and per the "department head of the valley, Scott, the ladies never gave him the messages. Well, they sprayed my neighbors trees yesterday and somehow "never got the invoice" for my trees, so I wasn't on the schedule. I was supposed to get a call yesterday evening and did not. Got a call this morning from Scott, who basically blamed his workers and didn't bother to apologize to me. Told me I would get sprayed today and he would call me when his guys left Anchorage. Surprise! Never got a call and they showed up 2 hours early. No one is there to help them. Can't leave a voicemail on Scott's phone because it's full. He finally answers and tells me, "it's his guys' fault because they didn't call him when they left Anchorage"...but they can't spray my trees anyhow because of the weather. I said, "Wow. I'm so frustrated with this company right now." And he replies, "Well good, we will cancel your order and you can find someone else to do it." And I said, "You need to refund me all my money." And he said, "I'll get Ellen to do that right now." And hung up. What an unprofessional, distasteful, experience. read more

I asked Gage tree service to remove trees from my property and not tarp my roof. I told them another company is tarping my roof. They repeatedly insisted on placing a tarp onto my damaged roof. When I arrived at my house the tarp was on my roof with broken boards placed on top (not properly secured). I called and I was told that the owner told them to tarp my roof! I received the statement and I was charged $600 for a tarp I repeatedly asked them not to place. read more

The tree removal was great. They did a great job. However, It took a couple calls to get someone out. They were too busy one day to talk, so they asked if they could call us back. They never did, so we called them.... When they finally came out to give us an estimate they were two hours late - we had to call them to see if they were still coming out that night. But the billing .... To make a long story short, they claimed they did not receive our check. My husband did some research and they did in fact receive and cash our check. We called back and let the lady know what day it had cashed. She "looked into it" and called back stating they have no record of cashing the check. We let it go for awhile ... surely they'd discover their error? No. We received another bill. We called and we were told we had to provide proof they cashed our check. So ... My husband took time out of his day to contact the bank, paid the $10 fee to 'get proof' the check was cashed. We mailed off 'the proof' that they had, in fact, cashed the check. We haven't heard anything since. We will not be using them again. PS --- TOO FUNNY about Paige from Green Acres leaving negative comments about the competition. I've worked with her briefly in the business world and she's not very nice. :) read more

Back in mid-February I hired Gage Tree Service to remove some trees and stumps from my residential property. Their General Manager came up with a written document outlining scope and cost of service. The work was to begin on a Monday morning, 2/22/2016, and should have be completed in less than a day. That same afternoon, with several stumps still to be ground, the Field Supervisor told me he had to take the stump grinder back to the shop for repair because it was leaking oil. He said he would be back later that same afternoon (or the following day at the latest) to finish up the remaining work. Equipment problems happen so this was no big deal to me, at least at the time. The Field Supervisor didn't come back that afternoon. There was no phone call, email or other communication from him. He didn't come back the following day either. Again, there was no phone call, email or other communication from him. A few days later I received an emailed invoice from the Administrative Assistant in their Wasilla office. The invoice showed that each component of the job was completed on the day they originally showed up for work, and it contained a note that payment was due on receipt. I called her and said the job was not complete, and asked her to check the status and get back to me. A day or so later the Administrative Assistant emailed me another copy of the invoice marked "paid in full" by making a charge against my credit card. I emailed her again with a caution that that she should not assume the job was completed when I was not, and asked her again to get me a status update. The Office Manager then emailed me back saying she would see to it that the job would be completed but could not give me a date. A few days later I sent a letter to Owner, Scott Gage, asking for his assistance. No response from him. A few days later I received a voice mail from the Office Manager saying that completion of the work was "on the schedule" but again she gave me no date. I sent her an email back asking what that meant, but got no response. Finally, after two and a half weeks I contacted an attorney who called Owner, Scott Gage. The attorney's call was returned by Gage's General Manager. The following day the Field Supervisor finally (after two and a half weeks) came back and ground down the remaining stumps. These chiselers billed the complete project and took all the money for a half-day job before the work was completed. The Owner, General Manager, and office staff went incommunicado. They wouldn't finish work on a half-day job and wouldn't refund my money. Finally, I had to get an attorney involved to get the job finished . . . two and a half weeks later. They are very poor communicators. Their management level is absentee. They do not give a damn about customer service. Next time I'll be using somebody else. read more

I am writing of my own personal experience with Gage Tree Service, it was exceptional. In fact, I am so glad that I did not look for reviews before I called them as I'm sure I wouldn't have hired them based on these previous reviews, yikes! As it was, a friend told us to call them (she's had them cut her trees several times over last few years), and we did. They called us right back, came out and gave us an estimate and even scheduled us that week (although I understood that normally scheduling could be couple weeks out, they just happened to have an open day). We were working on removing trees and topping off trees (we topped off only birch trees, and several spruce were taken out completely), this was for improved views - and yes! The view is so so much better. Scott Gage (the owner) was the person who gave us the estimate and also was there the day we cut the trees. He was personable, offered great suggestions, but also listened ultimately to what we wanted to have done so that I felt in control the whole time. I would definitely recommend these guys and I'm sure I'll use them again. I only wonder about the poor reviews that perhaps their business was/is getting a bit 'too busy' so they can't manage it well. I can only say that our experience was excellent. Their tree service was adequate, however, they were not professional in dealing with us as customers. A crew came out and cut/trimmed some trees; I signed off on it, but it wasn't everything that had been discussed during the initial quote between my husband and the person who drew up the work order. We called Gage, and they offered to come back and make it right. There had been miscommunication on both ends - between my husband and me, and between whoever drew up the work order and the crew that completed it. That's fine, and it happens. However, when they came back to finish the job, they knocked on the door while I was with my baby and unable to answer. Moments later, I looked out of the window to see who had knocked and could overhear the crew complaining (loudly) about my husband and me and about having to come back and finish the job (apparently thinking I wasn't home). This went on for several minutes. They also complained about how the work order should never have been agreed to, and that it wasn't clear on the initial work order exactly what had needed done. My husband called the office - as a courtesy - to let them know what had happened, and was met with snarkiness and hostility from the receptionist. My husband made clear he wasn't looking for them to dock our bill since they had done the work we had agreed upon, but she kept asking him what he wanted her to do about it and also questioned my version of the scenario. Then she said that it had happened SO long ago, she couldn't really do anything about it now. (It happened last week. We had called them immediately afterwards, but she told us she would call us back this week because they were so swamped with work that week. She did not call us back; we called her.) We didn't want anything from this company except to alert them about what was going on, and maybe an apology. If my job depended on customer satisfaction, I would want to know if my customers weren't happy with any part of the service they received. I begrudgingly give Gage one star. They don't deserve even that. I hired them to prune only the trees I specified. They proceeded to severely butcher all of them. In addition, they removed (killed) a mature lilac and a rose tree of China, both of which I'd asked them to leave alone. read more

Do not use this company for anything. I am a contractor and had a large tree fall on a three story condo building that was very large and needed to be removed with a crane. My employee called gage tree service and they came out and quoted $2,500.00 to remove the tree as it was over the entrance to the building and was very unsafe so I authorized its removal. When I got the bill it was for $3,500.00 and when I called Michelle in there office she said because it was after hours that was the price and I explained it was after hours when you quoted me the price and she said my employee must have misunderstood. But I had two employees there and both said the same story. She said she would look into it and call me back, she didn't. When I called back she said her employee had confirmed he had said $3,500 (he lied to cover his butt). I spoke with my employees separately to make sure there story's matched, they did, she said she would look into it again and call me back. Two weeks later I called back (she never returned my call) and she had gone around me to have the association I worked for to pay her directly. I spoke to the property manager who was paying the bill and it turn out she lied to him and me in an effort to get the extra thousand dollars. I would have paid the after hours amount had they quoted me that first, I would have even made more money by doing that, but I have integrity something Gage's field and office staff obviously lack. In September we had a big wind storm that knocked down a big tree in my yard, which landed on my neighbor's garage, across part of their driveway and across part of mine. I asked for referrals on Facebook and quite a few people recommended Gage. I wanted to get this done ASAP due to it laying on my neighbor's roof so decided to call them. The response was quick and I decided to go with them. When I was quoted the price to cut it, chip it, grind the stump and haul it away, it was beyond my price range so I told him I would make arrangements to haul it away. He informed me it would be stacked. I guess my version of "stacked" is very different from their version. I heard someone working in my yard with the chain saw and after about half an hour decided to go see how it was going. To my surprise, they were already gone and my tree laid scattered over half the side yard, left in 15-20 foot lengths for the most part - definitely not my version of "stacked!" The guy did not come to the door to see if I was satisfied with the job so I called the office and asked when they would be coming back to finish the job. After some hesitation, I was told the job was to "cut tree, owner to haul away." I explained the mess that was left over a large area of my lawn and the fact that I had been told it would be stacked and received a call back that afternoon. I was told for $200 more they would come and chip it and haul it away. That was their solution. I wasn't about to spend another $200 on this tree so started sawing it up myself. I eventually had some help from family and friends, but essentially did most of the cleaning up by myself over a period of three weeks. I'm a senior citizen who doesn't mind hard work, but was really miffed about the lousy job they did for a $400 fee. Half an hour for $400? Yikes! In hindsight, I wish I had taken the time to google reviews as well as get an estimate from another company - I was in a hurry to get the tree off my neighbor's roof so didn't take the time to do that. I will never recommend this company to anyone else as I am totally dissatisfied. read more
