Beware if they do not know you; if you are not a "homie." Confusion due to unprofessional favoritism towards the survivor (homie) who referred the caretaker survivor (with ability to pay) to Gaines in the first place. Gaines refused to allow the paying caretaker survivor, who was also legally appointed by decedent, to fully honor the memory of the decedent. Senior extended family members who knew the decedent have expressed sadness and disappointment that Gaines would engage in "shady" practices. Only one person was satisfied; that one who colluded with Gaines, creating a contract that omitted the paying survivor, and then walked away with the overpayment in his pocket. He who signs the agreement should be the one who pays! Bottom line: any value was destroyed by Gaines blatant participation in messy behavior and refusing to consider the desires of the payer who is an equal survivor and the only person legally authorized by decedent to disburse funds on behalf of the decedent. God sees and God knows. read more

This review is for Gaines Funeral Home,5386 Lee Rd, Maple Heights, OH 44137. ​My family met with Kaye Gaines, CEO President to make funeral arrangements for my sister. We chose 85 photos and 5 songs for a video to be played during the wake. Gaines LOST our video. It was NOT played during the wake. It was 4 girls in my family. We lost a sister. So it was important to us that Missing You by Gladis Knight and Brandy be included in the video it was not played during the wake. We spoke to CEO Kaye Gaines, she said "Out of everything that went well..this is what you all in hear complaining about " We explained how hurtful it was to my family. The funeral was NOT free. We didn't get what we paid for. Kaye was hostile.. insensitive..and defensive. We should have been refunded for the video that was not played during the wake because it was LOST by GAINES. read more

Our son was laid to rest in December of 2023 at Gaines in Maple Heights. We worked with Pastor Kenneth Keith and he was professional and personable. He allowed us to call anytime of the day and when we had to leave a message he returned our call promptly. Their staff made personal touches to our son casket and blanket just from a conversation about our son. The choices they made let us know that we were heard. We totally felt that the service we received was worth the money we paid. The only thing that could have been communicated more clearly is the timeframe on the return of my son ashes. We chose to have him cremated and the remains were to be put in a personalized urn and we are still waiting for our son. read more

I am a resident of Smithfield, North Carolina who is originally from Cleveland, Ohio. I contacted Ms. Kaye Ceo of Gaines Funeral Home to make final arrangements for my brother DeCameron Scott. From the very first contact, I was met with care, concern, and professionalism. All of my wishes were executed. Ms. Kaye and her staff went above and beyond what was expected or required. The price was extremely fair and I got more than what I paid for. Bishop Askew did a wonderful job officiating and I am grateful to the entire staff. I'll start by saying, our service and obituaries were beautiful. They always gifted us with a customized blanket which depicted our loved one beautifully. I know that funeral homes are limited, in the city, so I feel like I should share a few tips with anyone who chooses to deal with Gaines, in order to prepare you for what is to come... If you have experienced a traumatic/untimely loss or have little experience with planning funerals, please have your most patient and organized family member work with Gaines. Some of their practices are tedious and can be frustrating, given the circumstances. After the funeral, Be sure to retrieve your flash drive, or cds before heading to the cemetery, it may be hard to locate after your services have commenced. Just like every other industry, due to covid protocols, social distancing is strictly informed. During the family and public viewing, be sure to have a few family or friends, who will be able to help direct the flow of people coming to view. My cousins helped, as a labor of love. It's also very important to try to control your guest list. They do not clear the room, after the wake, or ask names at the door so it is possible that people not on your approved guest list will take a seat, which can leave some of your loved ones left outside of the services. If you would like for them to do a roll call over the mic, prior to beginning the service, they do offer that. We declined. For those unable to attend, They do provide a live stream link. I got mixed reviews on it people were able to watch the service live, but when i went to the link it was still up. So play back is available. I tried to call Gaines and give constructive criticism, based on my experience and the experience of others that i know have also used them. Since i was not the primary contact, during our planning, even though i was there start to finish, they didn't not want to hear what i had to say. Gains Funeral Home is one of the most professional funeral homes that I have ever dealt with. My mother, my father and my brother was laid to rest at Gaines funeral home and it was absolutely amazing. From the beginning to the end. Kaye Gaines was extremely creative with my family in mind. From the beautiful programs, fans , flowers, name on the casket etc.. my family is eternally grateful for such care at our lowest hour. Your service to the community is 5 star plus. I am writing this review to Gaines Funeral Home because of the extreme disappointment of a service I attended on Thursday, August 24. Let me start by saying that this was the third funeral I've attended at Gaines in the past 3 months. The first service I attended was in May and it went well, I was there again in June for my father in-law's funeral, and I was there last week for a third time. I must say I was utterly surprised by the unprofessionalism I witnessed. The first issue is that it was completely packed! There were 4 viewings happening simultaneously, there seemed to be mass confusion, which I have not seen at Gaines before. There were employees with shorts and "do rags" on during the service, completely unprofessional. There are not enough restrooms in your facility for the amount of people that were in attendance, which made the restroom on the main level unclean. The service I was attending had to be postponed due to not being able to accommodate everyone, which was very disheartening, especially when the question was posed beforehand if we were going to be the only service being held at that time and we were told "yes". After the amount of people that showed up for the service, the daughter of the deceased was told "you didn't tell me half the city of Cleveland was coming'. Again, very unprofessional. After much discussion amongst family, the decision was made not to have Gaines service any future funerals we may have. As difficult as a funeral is to deal with in the first place, having to deal with unnecessary issues makes things worse than they need to be. When I was there for the service I attended in May, the owner demanded respect of himself and his staff and yet the same consideration seems to not be given to grieving family members. I will say that Ms. Kelly is awesome, very friendly and professional and always there when you need her. My hope is that things will not continue to be run in the manner in which I have witnessed. read more

Very sensitive and caring organization. The staff is very sensitive while dealing with the family, however very professional. When my brother died in April 2011, I was operating on auto-pilot & very emotional. Kaye worked with me through all of my emotions & confusion. She didn't try to rush the meeting, yet she kept me focused while guiding me at the same time. My brother had no insurance & she still cared for me with dignity. I was able to pay so much & then be placed on a payment plan. MY BROTHERS SERVICE WAS NOT DELAYED DUE TO $$$. THANK YOU KAYE! I then had to return in June 2012 for my grandfather. Renee worked with me and my experience was just as caring & professional. Renee even went above & beyond to deliver important documents to my home. THANK YOU RENEE! If I could I would give this business 10 stars. I work at Cleveland Clinic and received a phone call in error for someone who was looking for information on their deceased loved one. The caller was from out of town and she was very upset. I thought of Gaines funeral home because they had been so gracious and supportive during my family's time of loss. I told the caller that I would contact Gaines to see if they could help. I spoke with Kay and she was wonderful she advised me that she would be more than happy to help this family. I spoke with the family a few days later and they were so happy and so thankful for all Gaines did for their family and loved one. This funeral takes great care of your loved ones & had beautiful services & arrangements. They keep everything professional. They take care of any and all problems. They have 2 locations and the both offer coffee & water. They help you as soon as you walk in the door. Prices are reasonable. They ship in & ship out bodies. Actually they deserve 0 stars. Don't believe any other post. These people are sloppy, insensitive and careless. They Limo driver was late picking us up, drove the streets instead of the highway, and made the family late for services. They never said "Sorry for your Loss" to us until we were in the funeral services even though i was dealing with them for days prior to the service making arrangements. The kick in the head was the Sign-in book, listed someone else's name instead of my mother. they supposedly gave a slide show to someone else in the family stating we left it in their player, like we know where they heck their player was, but they gave me the other copies. So they left it in the player - supposedly! I travel and had my mom shipped back home to give her a good service and these people were the most nonchalant, non-caring people who are all about the money. DO NOT USE THIS PLACE!! you're just a way for them to pay for that raggedy &$!# old smelling place. Take pride in your job and at lease update that half condenmed place.
