My friend, John, waited 1.5 hours for a Gainesville Cab in the rain. Rush hour, traffic delays, I can understand these things. However, upon arrival, the cab driver took one look at this 76 year old man, who was soaked to the skin, and told him he could not get in the cab. THE DRIVER LEFT THIS 76 YEAR OLD MAN IN THE POURING RAIN and the Gainesville Cab Co refused to answer the phone when John tried to request another cab. I will never use a Gainesville Cab again. Whoever was answering the phone at this dump on 12/5/21 was the most low class, unprofessional ignoramus I had to ever deal with. I call the first time, and the guy answers after like 20 rings , he's out of breath and clearly flustered ,for who knows why, and he doesn't let me finish giving him all the info and he tells me I can't do that. So I hung up and called another listing at 352-374-8484 and its this same bozo. This time he's clearly angry but says he can schedule the fare. Then I give him the address and tell him I want to pay for ride in advance as I was not the fare. When I said I wanted to pay in advance he starts cussing and using abhorrent language. He then tells me that I'm shady and not going to do. This guy is clearly in over his head with being a cabbie. Meanwhile he has one business under multiple names and phone numbers ( talk about shady) His low class language ,and poor attitude and laziness sums up perfectly why rideshares like Uber and Lyft are mopping the floor with cab companies. Honestly i just feel bad for clown , if he can't handle the job of cabbie, he going to have hard time doing anything else out there. Interestingly, Yelp has decided the worst reviews are unhelpful so all the one star ratings aren't factored in, even though some are pretty accurate. The cabs are saturated with cigarette smoke, beat up and overpriced. Everything about this cab company just feels run down and dirty. The only reason I'm giving an extra star is because the drivers are nice enough (the ones I've met anyway) and the cabs are ~usually~ on time. Do yourself a favor and call another cab company or better yet, get an Uber cab. Uber charges $1.50 less for the base fare, $1.00 less per mile and doesn't charge per person. read more

My guess is that as an airport shuttle this may be a good deal. However, as just a taxi service it is way overpriced. I made an appointment and then called to cancel because I found a ride to the bar I was heading to. The lady on the phone literally hung up on me. I was polite. However, she seemed irritated as soon as she picked up. I give a two stars because someone answered right away but I will not use them to take me to the airport tomorrow or ever. I've had so many encounters with these vehicles out on SW 13th street and Williston Rd, I know I'd never recommend them. If you see one of their maroon minivans coming your way, watch out! We took a cab from our hotel out to some clubs and during the ride the dispatcher was all over the radio insulting our driver in the meanest way, saying that he was a rookie and unable to work his radio. It was embarrassing for the drive we could tell, and especially unprofessional of the dispatcher. We went pretty far, from south 13th to Main and University and it was only around $10 with tip. The next day I called the same company since I had the card in my pocket and we took a cab from Archer Road to the Harn museum on Hull St, which was possibly a mile or two and they charged us $12!!! The meeter read $7 and some change. Apparently there were signs on the outside of the cab but I wasn't really looking and the driver said nothing about it until we got to our destination. $10 to go half way across the city at night, $12 to go less that 2 miles the next day? Double standards and shady business practices. Do not count on this cab company to be fair or professional. read more

This review is in regards to Gainesville cab's insurance carrier, Ascendant insurance. Myself and three other vehicles were rear ended by a cab driver on their phone and didn't stop at all at a traffic light. It's taken their insurance four months and many many many unreturned phone calls to even acknowledge my claim. BEWARE! My husband and I picked up a Gainesville cab on Saturday night after the Gator game. All started normal with the cab driver starting the meter, then about 30 seconds down the road he says it will be a $22 minimum. 3 minutes later he calls into dispatcher and then reports to us that it will be a $27 minimum. At this point we were stuck since we were nearly halfway to our destination. When we arrived at the destination and the meter said $17.09, my husband called the dispatcher to ask why they arbitrarily choose minimum fares. I suppose I can understand wanting to increase rates on a game weekend in Gainesville BUT they should be required to notify passengers either verbally or with a sign in the cab with the change in rate. I have been using this company for 3 years now and I have been putting up with their crap for too long! This morning was the final straw when I requested a cab to take me to church service, and I had to get a lecture on "making up my mind?!". The "idiot" operator on the phone was so arrogant and ridiculous, he shouldn't be in a position to deal with people. After giving me the famous "15 minute" time frame, I called this poor excuse of an employee back after 30 minutes have gone by to cancel my pick-up. This pitiful fool had the nerve to tell me that the driver was "almost" at my house, and that it takes gas, blah blah blah, and that I should make up my mind a little sooner. I don't request their services to get lectured on some BS! I have the right to change my mind as I darn-well please, and Gainesville cab need to check their "high and mighty" attitude workers before they get slapped with something more serious than a bad review.
