Now all the renovation work is complete ,you kinda realise how important this building is to the town of Dumfries, and that it is one of those things in life that should be kept as a glorious reminder of the past , a pleasure for the present and ultimately the future. Update. Its all complete now and they even got Qeen Elizabeth to offically re-open. Ive never seen the town centre looking so clean, and with so many lovely plants (ha ha).

The current exhibition called This is who we are is a collection of photos of Scots that have settled in Canada.The photos were of individuals and a description of how life is for them in Canada. Some were second and third generation imigrants and children of imigrants. A number of Canada towns named after Scotish town were concentrated upon.

We had the pleasure of…read morebeing in a private box which had a balcony overlooking the racecourse and it was the most fantastic view. The box had it's own facilities such as a television to watch the coverage of the racing, a betting shop right outside the door, personal waitress service and an incredibly well stocked bar. We also had a three course meal which consisted of soup, Cranberry and Pork sausages with mashed Potato and vegetables and Eton Mess for pudding. It was fantastic. The food was gorgeous although it was served while the racing was taking place so we had to keep dashing from our seats to see who had won and then back to the table again. Included with the box we were given £20 of vouchers to place bets with which made the day even more fun and some of us even won money. For someone who had never been to the races before it was an amazing day and now we are thinking of having our wedding here.

Stadium style seating, assigned seats but the seats are small, and don't recline at all. You pay for your ticket and concessions up front at the same counter. You can even get milkshakes there. Though I wouldn't reccommend them, they were awfully sweet, over sweet. The popcorn was alright, and of course I got bottled water because that's what I drink. The previews were entertaining because UK commercials are SO much better and more inventive than US.

I would say that the feel of the place is very ethnic, the seating is all light wood and you can use one of the many boardgames available to entertain yourself with. My particular favourite is backgammon. There are lots of lovely big plants everywhere making for a lovely atmosphere and the view of Carlisle from the windows is truly brilliant. The food is all homemade and really healthy and the ingredients are sourced locally. Although I haven't made my way completely through the menu yet I would particularly recommend that you try the homemade pizza, burgers and the mezze. The food tends to have a meditteranean feel and the salad that accompanies most main courses is always fresh. For drinks they do a wide range of coffee, soft drinks and their speciality homemade lemonade which has mint leaves in it and again is to die for. On a night time the cafe turns into a bar and I have been to some really good acoustic nights. The customers and staff are really laid back and friendly and it is a wonderful night out. For 500 years, until the English and Scottish crowns were united in 1603, Carlisle Castle was the principal fortress of England's north-western border with Scotland. Unlike most medieval castles, it has been continuously occupied since its foundation by William II in 1092. When Mary, Queen of Scots fled from her rebellious subjects to England in May 1567, she was housed for some weeks here. This was the last time the castle was used as a royal residence. These are just some of the countless interesting facts. There's a lot more to see, learn and read. Funnily enough just the day before we've visited Linlinthgow Palace, the birthplace of Mary. You can visit lots of rooms, can walk on the walls. You can see the prison cells and much more. Its' a highly interesting castle. There is also Cumbria's Museum of Military Life on site, if you got some time on your hands. A museum shop, toilets and a café/restaurant. Picnic tables outside as well. All in all a very interesting visit. We only had 2-3 hours time, but you could easily spend a day here.

There is a well informed museum, It was a pleasure not to surrounded by hordes of people. Good athentic location next to Carlisle Airport. I didn't realise there was a voucher availible untill writing this review but am more than happy to support volunteers efforts. No cafe but the reception did provide hot & cold drinks, crisps.
