She told us that Wednesday is customer appreciation day so there are free pizza, chicken wings, wine and beer. They had generous quantities so my wife and I happily enjoyed what could amount to a free light supper. After the refreshments we went to our room which is huge. It has a king sized bed, two big screen TV's and a couple of desks. There were no odours and the room seemed clean to us. The hotel has strong Wi-Fi, a pool, laundry facilities, and many other amenities. If you come here to use the hospital just mention that fact and there is a ten percent discount. As an aside, the Vermilion Hospital is used by people from the City of Edmonton because the city hospitals are so busy and many rural hospitals are nearly empty. It's a clever way to boost business in the town and that's the reason why I'm here. Sadly it means that I can't partake in the free hot breakfast tomorrow morning because the hospital said no food for me until after the surgery. At least my wife can enjoy it. Well back to the hotel. This is similar to hotels found in cities so it seems like it's oversized for a town of only 4,500 people but I'm sure they've done their homework and decided that there is enough business potential here. When I called around I found that the other hotels in town were only slightly less expensive, and actually more expensive when you factor in the free hot breakfast. I recommend the Pomeroy to anyone staying the night in town. I hope I don't have a medical reason to stay in Vermilion again but if I do, this is where I would certainly go to for my lodging.

While there are some minor details I had issues with, my main problem was the Wifi and the bed. I couldn't stay here again, since I can't do anything on a computer, can't work, can't surf the web, can't watch TV - nadda. Bed also made me quite uncomfortable, barely got any sleep and was exhausted the next day. I was actually tempted to check out and stay somewhere else for my second night - but since it had been paid for in advance, didn't want to deal with the hassle of trying to get a refund. Made the best of it and was more than happy to get back home. (Read a more detailed review on our blog: http://lonesomecow.ca/2016/07/4751/)

Staying here was a mistake and a disappointment. The Super 8 Motel across the way was full…read more I checked in at 2 AM on Saturday morning and assumed that I had until 12 PM Sunday the following day to check out. I had completed working a wrestling show in Radway that night and was sore and tired and had to find somewhere to stay. No one was at the desk and all signs showed that it was closed despite the Open sign being lit and advertised per Google to be open 24 hours and all the lights were out! I was forced to call an extension that they had marked in the lobby to wake up his wife to get service. This fellow came down in his bed clothes. I requested a stay in a room with a balcony or some sort of veranda. This fellow, who I assume is the Owner got defensive over my requesting this and questioned my reasoning. Now what I do on my own time is no one else's concern but I simply wanted somewhere to relax and enjoy the evening air after a rough night of grappling sweaty dudes and putting together and tearing down a ring! The fellow seemed to be flustered and forgot his English, so I dropped the issue and went to bed. I discovered the next day that there were the rooms on the other side that had access to the parking lot and chairs to sit! This would have been perfect but I guess the Owner was too bleary to recall this. The rooms and hotel smelled strongly of cleanser, as if to cover up any weird smells. This was off-putting as I am quite sensitive to that. Whatever. The beds seemed clean and I had to sleep as it was now 3 AM and the Super 8 was booked full. What a disappointment. The three rooms I could determine were used had us all grouped together for what I assume is their convenience and I could hear their footsteps on the creaky floors. That's also disappointing and I hope would be understood that people like their space and quiet. If I could have stayed on one of those motel side rooms, I would have been pleased but this option was not made known to me. I am very disappointed with this stay and I regret that but my drive was too far out. I would like my money back but it seems this place needed it because the rooms are dated to the late 90's in decor minus some modest upgrades in a flat-screen tv and canvas art from Canadian Tire. It had popcorn ceiling in the room and walls in the hall, bathrooms had stained drop roof tiles. The towels were dirty when I looked at them and had to shower the next day. That brings us to the end of my stay on Saturday the afternoon. I went to get some food from the Esso since I was disappointed with the service and didn't want to use the attached restaurant. If I ran this place, I'd consider giving me my money back. I was certainly soured on the experience and have no further desire to stay at any associated Hotels if this is the service that I can expect. Is there a quarter star rating? I feel that'd be too good for it.
