It's a good place to shop if you'd like to buy high end and imported products. Some stores are on the pricey side but majority of stores offer good quality products, therefore you get what you paid for. In the summer time, local farmers come to set up shop near the entrance of the mall during early morning and mid-afternoon. You could find everything from fine herbs to local strawberries and corn on the cob. Merchants also sell farmer's preserves like fruit ketchup and jam. Special Quebec merchandise like blueberry wine from Lac St.Jean can be found as well.

It isn't far from my office so I often stop here after work if I need to pick up something for dinner or entertaining. Most of the stores here are food-related though there is a Dollarama and Archambault. In terms of food they have it all: a bakery, a cheese shop, a pasta shop, butcher, fishmonger and a SAQ. In the warmer months you can find a great little outdoor farmer's market. When it's too cold for the farmer's market you can choose to go to Fruiterie 440 instead. The food court here is your typical mall food court in that it is mostly chains but I rarely eat there. If you're in Anjou Les Halles is well worth the visit. It is kind of far from the metro so if you're coming here you're best off driving. Being out in the suburbs there is always an abundance of parking.

Because this isn't the biggest mall on the island we usually find a lot of products that are sold out of other chain retailers here. The mall has a good selection of chains and independent stores. The parking lot has adequate parking and serval entrances. The malls entrances all have hand sanitizers and social distancing spacing stickers. Every store we visited had there staff following all safety guidelines.

One of the anchors has closed, so for now they only have three major stores. Inside the mall it was very clean, well-lit, and roomy. Outside there is a lot of parking available, and the mall is hard by major expressways so getting here and back is easy. Located right on the edge with entrances inside and outside of the mall are some nice restaurant chains - we went to the Baton Rouge steakhouse connected to the mall. While a mall is a mall is a mall is still true, this one was pretty nice with middle quality stores throughout. Loads of eating places near the center portion of the mall.

Yes, it could be better; however, it's a major shopping center with…read moreample parking on the east side of Montreal where, unbeknownst to a lot of tourists, there is a large swath of different neighborhoods, some with attractive detached homes, with many demographics having different tastes, needs, and budgets. The layout is not exactly simple and linear, but it's not that challenging since the mall is more of a medium-sized one. It has 2 or 3 anchors and plenty of "middle class" stores. I say that because you won't find the upscale ones here and one of the anchors is Canadian Tire (which is a general merchandise mart as well). The food court is small, but it has enough variety. If you're looking to a mall food court to eat well, I'd question why you'd even be doing that. Mall food court food is "tide over" food. Not everyone needs trendy things. I say that because, in Montreal, there are many places to buy things that are "cool" or "chic," with most of them in more urban(e) shopping centers downtown or in boutiques throughout the more sought after neighborhoods. However, people also need malls with bread and butter stores and, at present, that's the niche that Place Versailles appears to fill. Because of its simple nature, Place Versailles gets 3 stars from me. It's great that Montreal has a mall like this within its city limits, and that it sits right next to the 25 at Sherbrooke. This type of suburban mall is more likely to be encountered further out ... on the West Island, in Laval, and on the north and south shores. Again, there is plenty of free parking - a real challenge in most parts of Montreal - and, should you want to take the Metro running under Sherbrooke to get here, your station would be Radisson.

But some things have changed: a new marquise, the addition of street art. This week is their annual sidewalk sale held every summer. Due to the closed businesses or vacant storefronts, the retailers displays were spaced out. The Plaza is 4 blocks long of budget retails, from Jean-Talon to Bellechasse streets. However, I had the impression that it was longer than this. Perhaps it's because I was still a kid back then. It's far from being my favourite shopping street, though it brings back childhood memories.

It's the part from Jean-Talon to Bellechasse where there is a glass covering the sidewalk. It's great for window-shopping, even if most of the stores have seen better days. While this street itself has seen a bit of a decline when indoor malls started opening, it has started to reverse. The area is becoming more and more famous for trendy bars and nightspots. The selection of restaurants goes from fast-food to old diners to upscale. It is still mostly about clothing boutiques, the fashion is hit or miss and it's over 90% women's fashion here but one could still find whatever one seeks here (batteries, luggage, perfume). Take a second to explore the streets that intersect the Plaza, Jean-Talon is a major artery for the city. Bélanger is up and coming, St-Zotique is more branché, Beaubien is the coolest (for me). Bellechasse is the quietest but it's good for a nice bike ride. Try to find when they have their sidewalk sales, you will not be disappointed.

The Long Version: I love discount stores and dollar stores, so I had to pop into Magi-Prix during my latest trip to Laval. It has a dollar store feel, but items are more than a dollar (although even stores that call themselves dollar stores these days rarely have anything that's only a dollar anymore. Most things are more than a dollar). They have furniture and I actually saw a few cool pieces, but nothing that I really needed. I was most impressed by their food section. They had lots of imported goods. They had teas from Germany, cookies from France and chips from France too. I ended up buying 2 boxes of tea from Sri Lanka. One was a green tea with soursop and banana flavours. I've never seen this flavour combination and admittedly it sounds strange, but more the reason to get it, right? Lol. The other was a black tea with ginger. It's rare to find a black tea with just ginger flavour. Many add lemon and honey. And some add lemongrass and/or licorice. So I was thrilled to find a plain tea and ginger. I was eyeing the Brets chips. They were $4.50 each, and had lots of unusual flavours, but I didn't find a flavour I had to try. The selection of clothing is unique, prices after conversion to American dollar is great . When here I always like to check out their items for the home too. Last time I was here I bought a door mat with three cats on it. Now this has become a favorite with my cats. This time i found a table runner for my mom, which I'm sure she is going to love since it has all these fancy chickens on it! By the way the prices on these items were great even before the conversion! The store is very spacious, the use of the space is great. I like how when you are on the second floor one can look down and see almost the entire store. Great if you need to spot your shopping companion. They also have wifi, which is a great added bonus when traveling.

I was psyched when they opened a store next to my company's office in NY, but bummed to discover they didn't have a kids selection. While in Montreal I was determined to find a Joe Fresh with a kids department, especially since the regular womans clothing won't fit my big belly these days. Joe- us pregnos would love a maternity line! This Joe Fresh isn't in the supermarket, but has it's own store connected to it. Personally I like that better since it seems a bit strange to me to shop for clothes while shopping for groceries. It's a beautiful space and most importantly they have a HUGE kids selection. I had only about 45 minutes until I had to leave for the airport (I literally was rolling my suitcase around the store) and filled my arms with tons of clothes for my little girl at home, as well as my baby boy on the way. Thank goodness I had just had my gender revealing ultrasound just days before stepping into this Joe Fresh. The total came to about $300 for what seemed was an entire fall/winter wardrobe for both kids. I had a bit of a paranoid moment when my VISA didn't go thru and they don't take AMEX. Canada doesn't seem to want to take my money! Fortunately, my Canadian coworker came thru for me and put the clothes on her credit card...and I wrote her a check. I'm still not sure how I fit all the new clothes in my suitcase, but it helps that clothes for toddlers and newborns are extremely small. Visiting this store was one of the highlights of my fabulous weekend in Montreal. I really do hope they open a store in Chicago one of these days and when they do I hope Joe remembers to add a kids department.

I found the inside quite dark. I love how big the changing rooms are though and there's never many people shopping at once, sales girls don't hassle you so you can browse through at your own pace. Joe Fresh has some really colorful and fashionable designs however in the past couple years I've noticed a drastic change in the quality of their clothing. The fabrics are too thin and cheap looking. They used to have basic tees and tank tops that would withstand many washes but now they get stretched out too easily and don't seem to last. The styles and prices remind me of H&M, only, the fit is a little too loose and not made for the tall and thin. Pants are always short for me. My favorite items are from their sleepwear and lounge collection, and I particularly like their clearance aisle - you can always find nice pieces for less than 10 bucks. My bf got a pair of watermelon red cargo shorts for 7$ and I got pjs for 5$. What a steal!
